Abstract

The economy of desulfurization system is of great significance for operation of desulfurization system and improving the environment quality in power plant. Based on the desulfurization power price policy, this paper analyzes the cost and benefit structure of the wet flue gas desulfurization system in Chinese power plant; that puts forward the calculation methods of total cost present value, total benefits present value and net present value during the life period of desulphurization system. Moreover using Cost-benefit sensitivity analysis to find out that there is sensitivity relationship between power generation hour and desulphurizer price. By applies these methods, the result shows that the economy of desulfurization system is better under the current designed scheme. But with the reduced power hour and risen price of limestone, the current desulfurization system power price policy of China cannot compensate the running cost of the desulfurization system in power plant rationally, and leads to lower economy of desulfurization system.

Abstract

Lightning produces extremely high voltages that generated induce overvoltage which have a high tendency to effect the electrical apparatus especially renewable energy plant that directly expose to this source. This study was performed through experimental work by investigating the effect of induce overvoltage upon the photovoltaic system. The induce voltage was performed by using lightning impulse generator. It is found that the maximum voltage of the unwanted signal is proportional with the distant of the specimen. The closer distant between solar panel material and spark discharge, the more serious effect would occur due to the induced overvoltage.

Abstract

When the Autoregressive Moving Average (ARMA) model is fitted with real data, the actual value of the model order and the model parameter are often unknown. The goal of this paper is to find an estimator for the model order and the model parameter based on the data. In this paper, the model order identification and model parameter estimation is given in a hierarchical Bayesian framework. In this framework, the model order and model parameter are assumed to have prior distribution, which summarizes all the information available about the process. All the information about the characteristics of the model order and the model parameter are expressed in the posterior distribution. Probability determination of the model order and the model parameter requires the integration of the posterior distribution resulting. It is an operation which is very difficult to be solved analytically. Here the Simuated Annealing Reversible Jump Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) algorithm was developed to compute the required integration over the posterior distribution simulation. Methods developed are evaluated in simulation studies in a number of set of synthetic data and real data.

Abstract

This paper profiles the potential of developing and implementing Computer-Assisted Assessments (CAA) for helping lecturer in assessing students’ achievements on the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) Approach. PBL Assessment is typically formative; it includes delivery of feedback to the student, with the aim of improving their skills. The use of CAA in PBL gives advantages for both of lecturer and students by providing them with detailed formative feedback on their learning achievements compare to conventional assessment. It also reduces lectures tedious load by automating parts of the task of marking students’ work.  The methodology applied to this research was literature review and investigation of practitioners’ perception about assessment in PBL. The literatures showed that there are methods of assessments that have been used successfully in PBL, but the research selected five methods as PBL assessment framework; there are “Peer-assessment, Self-assessment, Group presentation, Individual activities, and Group report assessment”. The framework applied into the tool that encompasses the use of computer (called with CAPBLAT) for helping lecturer in assessing students’ achievements. In addition, the CAPBLAT helps to store assessment material, deliver assessment, and do auto-rating of the assessment result. The evaluation results concerning technology acceptance demonstrated that incorporating CAPBLAT can get better technology acceptance.

Abstract

A novel phase interferometer method based on virtual baseline is proposed for technical difficulty in resolving angle ambiguity and antenna layout. In this method, only two baselines are set to solve the problem of angle ambiguity. In high noise areas, there are large numbers of outliers which lead to angle error in the measured data, and a way to detect and eliminate the outliers is applied to improve the effect of solving ambiguity. The simulation results show that the improved method could effectively correct the error of fuzzy phase difference and increase the probability of ambiguity-resolving. Duo to its simple equipment and easy to implement, the proposed method might have certain guiding significance to engineering application.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to compare the performance of two text classifiers; support vector machine (SVM) and back-propagation neural network (BPNN) within categorize messages from an online discussion. SVM has been recognized as one of the best algorithm for text categorization. BPNN is also a popular categorization method that can handle linear and non linear problems and can achieve good result. However, using SVM and BPNN in online discussion is rare. In this research, several SVM data are trained in multi-class categorization to classify the same set with BPNN. The effectiveness of these two text classifiers are measured and then statistically compared based on error rate, precision, recall and F-measure. The experimental result shows that for text message categorization in online discussion, the performances of SVM outperform BPNN in term of error rate and precision; and falls behind BPNN in term of recall and F-measure.

Abstract

An integral-order hyperchaotic system with four-dimension is expanded to be a fractional-order system whose chaotic behaviors are analyzed, Firstly, based on the stability theory of fractional-order linear system and the thinking of tracking control, a synchronization method for two fractional-order systems with different structures is proposed, and an analytic expression for synchronization controller is given. Secondly, taking the extended fractional-order system and R?ssler hyperchaotic system as example, the synchronization between them is numerical simulated. Finally, the proposed synchronization method is applied to encrypt and decrypt digital images. The simulation results show that the lowest order that extended fractional-order system appears chaos is 3.2, and this method has many advantages for encrypting and decrypting digital images, such as sensitive secret keys, random uniform distribution of pixels and low correlation between adjacent pixels.

Abstract

Different from the direct deformation on the image,we propose a deformation method using wavelet filter and control curves. Firstly, the original image is filtered into a high-frequency subimage and a low-frequency subimage by the wavelet, and the low-frequency subimage is deformed use the moving least squares and the control curves. Then, the key points are set to create control curves according to shape information or deformation requirement, and moved to new position to deform the image using moving least squares. At last, the final deformation image can be obtained by adding the deformed low-frequency part to the high-frequency part. Experiments show that the proprosed method performs very well to preserve high-frequency detail information and describe the image shape and contour, so can obtain the satisfactory and realistic deformation results.

Abstract

Many accident victim lives could have been saved if vehicle accident information could be intimated to an evergencey rescue center automatically. This paper proposes an accident detection and location system by determining the deceleration and data fusion from accelerometers and GPS. The bias, drift and noise errors of accelerometers and GPS outage limitation are overcome by integrating with Kalman filter. The test result shows the correct deceleration for accident detection and location. The proposed system will be able to overcome the limitations of GPS/IMU and save valuable human lives.

Abstract

Currently, most of the plagiarism detections are using similarity measurement techniques. Basically, a pair of similar sentences describes the same idea. However, not all like that, there are also sentences that are similar but have opposite meanings. This is one problem that is not easily solved by use of the technique similarity. Determination of dubious value similarity threshold on similarity method is another problem. The plagiarism threshold was adjustable, but it means uncertainty. Another problem, although the rules of plagiarism can be understood together but in practice, some people have a different opinion in determining a document, whether or not classified as plagiarism. Of the three problems, a statistical approach could possibly be the most appropriate solution. Machine learning methods like k-nearest neighbors (KNN), support vector machine (SVM), artificial neural networks (ANN) is a technique that is commonly used in solving the problem based on statistical data. This method of learning process based on statistical data to be smart resembling intelligence experts. In this case, plagiarism is data that has been validated by experts. This paper offers a hybrid approach of SVM method for detecting plagiarism. The data collection method in this work using an Internet search to ensure that a document is in the detection is up-to-date. The measurement results based on accuracy, precision and recall show that the hybrid machine learning does not always result in better performance. There is no better and vice versa. Overall testing of the four hybrid combinations concluded that the hybrid ANN-SVM method is the best performance in the case of plagiarism.
