Abstract

As an important part of a power system, a load frequency control has to be prepared with a better controller to ensure internal frequency stability. In this paper, an Internal Model Control (IMC) scheme for a Load Frequency Control (LFC) with an adaptive internal model is proposed. The effectiveness of the IMC control has been tested in a three area power system. Results of the simulation show that the proposed IMC with Extreme Learning Machine (ELM) based adaptive model can accurately cover the power system dynamics. Furthermore, the proposed controller can effectively reduce the frequency and mechanical power deviation under disturbances of the power system.

Abstract

A patch antenna with rectangular-shaped ring slot that fed by a coaxial probe is proposed in this article as the single element for planar patch array antenna design to meet the requirement of multiple input multiple output (MIMO) in fifth generation (5G) technology. Initially, the single antenna element is designed at three different center frequencies of 0.85, 1.9 and 2.6 GHz to cover the mobile operating frequency of 0.8, 0.85, 0.9, 1.8, 2.1 and 2.6 GHz, which considering the proposed 5G spectrum below than 6 GHz. The rectangular-shaped ring slot is introduced to the patch antenna with the partial ground plane to widen the bandwidth performance. The designed single element is then arranged to design planar arrays of 2 x 2. Each of elements in the planar array is fed by a coaxial probe. The designs are utilizing a high-performance substrate, Rogers 6010LM.

Abstract

Many applications of robots in collaboration with humans require the robot to follow the person autonomously. Depending on the tasks and their context, this type of tracking can be a complex problem. The paper proposes and evaluates a principle of control of autonomous robots for applications of services to people, with the capacity of prediction and adaptation for the problem of following people without the use of cameras (high level of privacy) and with a low computational cost. A robot can easily have a wide set of sensors for different variables, one of the classic sensors in a mobile robot is the distance sensor. Some of these sensors are capable of collecting a large amount of information sufficient to precisely define the positions of objects (and therefore people) around the robot, providing objective and quantitative data that can be very useful for a wide range of tasks, in particular, to perform autonomous tasks of following people. This paper uses the estimated distance from a person to a service robot to predict the behavior of a person, and thus improve performance in autonomous person following tasks. For this, we use an adaptive fuzzy neural network (AFNN) which includes a fuzzy neural network based on Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy inference, and an adaptive learning algorithm to update the membership functions and the rule base. The validity of the proposal is verified both by simulation and on a real prototype. The average RMSE of prediction over the 50 laboratory tests with different people acting as target object was 7.33.

Abstract

The DVB-S2 system is designed as a toolbox to permit the execution of the satellite programs. Interleaver is an essential part of the DVB-S2 system. The current general block interleaver in DVB-S2 is not best, which leads to high BER and maybe not satisfy the requirements of the system. The purpose of this paper is to study the several interleaver types and comparative analyses are done between them to find which of these give better performance. Simulations results obtained prove that the 2D interleavers minimize BER more than other interleavers of DVB-S2. Further, the performance of 2D interleaver is better on a system that required a low SNR.

Abstract

A method to statistically extract MOSFET model parameters from a minimal number of transistor I(V) characteristic curve measurements, taken during fabrication process monitoring. It includes a sensitivity analysis of the model, test/measurement point selection, and a parameter extraction experiment on the process data. The actual extraction is based on a linear error model, the sensitivity of the MOSFET model with respect to the parameters, and Newton-Raphson iterations. Simulated results showed good accuracy of parameter extraction and I(V) curve fit for parameter deviations of up 20% from nominal values, including for a process shift of 10% from nominal.

Abstract

This paper discusses the formal validation for spatial information databases integration framework (SIDIF). A SIDIF database is a large, organized body of persistent data, usually associated with computerized software designed to update, query, and retrieve components of the data stored within the system. One of the common difficulties faced by the developer is in designing a robust database system. Even so, in order to solve this matter, developers have to focus their efforts on the formal specifications. The formal specification is supposed to reduce the overall development time. Formal specifications can be used to provide an unambiguous and precise supplement to natural language descriptions. Besides, it can be rigorously validated and verified leading to the early detection of specification errors. Consequently, to validate this problem formally, we specify the SIDIF database framework using Z language and prove by using Z/EVES theorem proven tool. By using this kind of tools, it may help to reduce time, energy and mistake compared to manual theorem proving which can be error task and tedious.

Abstract

Because of its small size, high reliability, efficiency, and its output torque characteristics, brushless DC motor (BLDCM) had been widely used in many field of robotics, precision instruments and equipment, etc. However, its inherent electromagnetic torque ripple limited the scope of its application, which was the focus and difficulty of its research in recent years. This article first described the causes of brushless DC motor torque ripple, and then torque ripple generated by four PWM modulations was analyzed to get optimum control scheme, finally the MATLAB / SIMULINK simulation model verified the analysis of the results. This paper provided the most intuitionistic exhibition.

Abstract

The major problems in hysteresis-based DTC are high torque ripple and variable switching frequency. In order to minimize the torque ripple, high sampling time and fast digital realization should be applied. The high sampling and fast digital realization time can be achieved by utilizing high-speed processor where the operation of the discrete hysteresis regulator is becoming similar to the operation of analog-based comparator. This can be achieved by utilizing field programmable gate array (FPGA) which can perform a sampling at a very high speed, compared to the fact that developing an ASIC chip is expensive and laborious.

Abstract

Miniaturized planar electrical capacitance tomography (ECT) device is fabricated using microfabrication method to accommodate eight planar electrodes to carry out electrical capacitance measurement using tomography technique. Fluids within the detection chamber are detected by the difference of the permittivity parameters. Stagnant and hydrodynamic multiphase samples such as liquid-gas and liquid-liquid are tested. The eight-electrode planar array is fabricated on the copper plated printed circuit board (PCB) and the chamber is fabricated using polymer poly(dimethyl-siloxane) (PDMS). The images of the multiphase sample are reconstructing using Linear Back Projection algorithm (LBP). Computer interface software is developed to display the images of the fluid online. Experimental results show that the reconstructed images closely resemble with the composition of the multiphase sample within the detection chamber.
