Abstract

Edge computing aims to make internet-based services and remote computing power close to the user by placing information technology (IT) infrastructure at the network edges. This proximity provides data centers with low-latency and context-aware services. Edge computing power consumption is mainly caused by data centers, network equipment, and user equipment. With edge computing (EC), energy management platforms for residential, industrial, and commercial sectors are built. Energy efficiency is considered to be one of the key aspects of edge power constraints. This paper provides the state of the art of power consumption and energy management for edge computing, the computation offloading methods, and more important highlights the power efficiency of edge computing systems. Furthermore, renewable energy and related concepts will also be explored and presented since no human participation is required in replacing or recharging batteries when using such energy sources. Based on such study, a recommendation is to develop a dynamic system for energy management in real-time with the assessment of local renewable energy so that the system be reliable with minimum power consumption. Also, regarding energy management, we recommend providing backup energy sources (or using more than one energy source) or (a hybrid technique).

Abstract

MQ-series gas sensors are frequently used in gas concentration sensing owing to their high sensitivity and relatively cheap cost. Reportedly, both the sensor’s circuit sensitivity (?) and power dissipation (?? ) are functions of sensor circuit load resistance (?? ). However, there is no well-established standard method for determining ?? value that can simultaneously yield maximum sensor circuit sensitivity (??) and acceptable ?? for a given value of gas concentration. To obtain optimum ?? , the dependence of ? and ?? on ?? for a given gas concentration was thoroughly investigated. The model equations for determining ?, ?? and ?? at ?? (??,???) were derived and MQ-6 gas sensor’s response to its associated gases was used for demonstrating the proposed method. Variations of both ? and ?? with respect to ?? were investigated when each of the associated gases has concentration of 1000 ppm. The sensor circuit optimal ?? must satisfy the dual conditions of (i) S=?? and (ii) ?? < set threshold. Results obtained from the analysis revealed that the values of ??,??? were 20, 24, 64, 120, and 152 kΩ for liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), CH4, H2, alcohol and CO respectively, corresponding to sensor powers of 0.3125, 0.2589, 0.0977, 0.0521, and 0.0411 mW.

Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) remains a major health problem in Indonesia, and efficient drug management is essential to ensure continuous treatment and prevent resistance. At Udayana University Hospital, manual recording and reporting often caused delays and errors, while integration with the National Tuberculosis Information System (SITB) was limited. This study developed a TB drug information system using the throwaway prototype model to address these challenges and enhance hospital workflow efficiency. The system implementation demonstrated measurable improvements in operational performance, with data entry errors reduced by 83% and the average recording time per patient shortened by 35% compared to the previous manual process. User feedback confirmed improved usability, accuracy, and reliability in supporting hospital workflows and timely reporting. In conclusion, the proposed system effectively improved the accuracy and efficiency of TB drug management while addressing hospital level operational challenges. This study demonstrates the applicability of the throwaway prototype model in healthcare information-system development and provides insights for scaling and integration with national TB programs.

Abstract

In the B5G/6G network, the deployment of small cells increased to keep up with the growth of mobile traffic. This deployment will increase the number of handovers (HOs) between cells. Ping-pong handover (PPHO) and radio link failure (RLF) are considered the two major problems in HO that may occur. So, the challenge is to set the handover control parameters (HCPs) carefully to find out the proper HO decision that should be appropriate to the environmental constraints. Therefore, in our paper, we propose an adaptive HCPs algorithm that adapts to environmental constraints. In addition, the proposed algorithm will have immunity to RLF and will significantly minimize the amount of PPHO compared to other workers. In the simulation results, our proposed model is evaluated using two frequency plans. By using frequency plan 1, the user mean throughput increased from 270 Kbps to 281 Kbps when the serving cell was fully loaded. By using frequency plan 2, the user mean throughput increased from 6 Mbps to 20 Mbps when the serving cell was fully loaded. In addition, the amount of ping-pong handover between overlapped small cells decreased and will not exceed one PPHO compared to another literature model.

Abstract

This paper presents a simple technique to perform inverse halftoning using the deep learning framework. The proposed method inherits the usability and superiority of deep residual learning to reconstruct the halftone image into the continuous-tone representation. It involves a series of convolution operations and activation function in forms of residual block elements. We investigate the usage of pre-activation function and standard activation function in each residual block. The experimental section validates the proposed method ability to effectively reconstruct the halftone image. This section also exhibits the proposed method superiority in the inverse halftoning task compared to that of the handcrafted feature schemes and former deep learning approaches. The proposed method achieves 30.37 dB and 0.9481 on the average peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) and structural similarity index (SSIM) scores, respectively. It gives the improvements around 1.67 dB and 0.0481 for those values compared to the most competing scheme.

Abstract

In this research, we use several deep learning methods with the word embedding feature to see their effect on increasing the evaluation value of classification performance from processing sentiment analysis data. The deep learning methods used are conditional random field (CRF), bidirectional long short term memory (BLSTM) and convolutional neural network (CNN). Our test uses social media data from Netflix application user comments. Through experimentation on different iterations of various deep learning techniques alongside multiple word embedding characteristics, the BLSTM algorithm achieved the most notable accuracy rate of 79.5% prior to integrating word embedding features. On the other hand, the highest accuracy value results when using the word embedding feature can be seen in the BLSTM algorithm which uses the word to vector (Word2Vec) feature with a value of 87.1%. Meanwhile, a very significant change in value increase was obtained from the FastText feature in the CNN algorithm. After all the evaluation processes were carried out, the best classification evaluation results were obtained, namely the BLSTM algorithm with stable values on all word embedding features.

Abstract

Optic nerve head is part of the retina where ganglion cell axons exit the eye to form the optic nerve. Glaucomatous changes related to loss of the nerve fibers decrease the neuroretinal rim and expand the area and volume of the cup. Therefore optic nerve head evaluation is important for early diagnosis of glaucoma. This study implements the detection of the optic nerve head in retinal fundus images based on the Hough Transform and Active Contour Models. The process starts with the image enhancement using homomorphic filtering for illumination correction, then proceeds with the removal of blood vessels on the image to facilitate the subsequent segmentation process. The result of the Hough Transform fitting circle becomes the initial level set for the active contour model. The experimental results show that the implemented segmentation algorithms are capable of segmenting optic nerve head with the average accuracy of 75.56% using 30 retinal images from the DRIVE database.Optic nerve head segmentation using hough transform and active contours

Abstract

In this paper, snake optimization algorithm (SOA) is used to find the optimal gains of an enhanced controller for controlling congestion problem in computer networks. M-file and Simulink platform is adopted to evaluate the response of the active queue management (AQM) system, a comparison with two classical controllers is done, all tuned gains of controllers are obtained using SOA method and the fitness function chose to monitor the system performance is the integral time absolute error (ITAE). Transient analysis and robust analysis is used to show the proposed controller performance, two robustness tests are applied to the AQM system, one is done by varying the size of queue value in different period and the other test is done by changing the number of transmission control protocol (TCP) sessions with a value of ± 20% from its original value. The simulation results reflect a stable and robust behavior and best performance is appeared clearly to achieve the desired queue size without any noise or any transmission problems.

Abstract

A novel series fed dual band stacked microstrip patch antenna (SMPA) offering circular polarization (CP) over wide beam is proposed for Indian regional navigation satellite system (IRNSS). The antenna is designed to function at far apart dual frequencies 1.176 GHz (L5 band) and 2.492 GHz (S band) intended for the receiver terminals of IRNSS system. The dual band performance with large frequency ratio (about 1:2.1) has been obtained by two stacked patches with an air layer between them. The square notches at the corners along the diagonal of lower square patch, one sided corner truncation along the diagonal of upper square patch and feeding along central axis is used to obtain CP (with axial ratio < 2) at both the operating bands. The square patches are excited with novel series feed technique. The proposed novel antenna has been designed, simulated and developed to meet the stringent design requirements for IRNSS navigation system. The antenna has achieved an impedance bandwidth of 2.6% and 2.2% at L5 and S band frequency respectively. It possesses positive gain beamwidth of 120and 3 dB axial ratio beamwidth of 120◦ and 60◦ at L5 and S band frequencies respectively.

Abstract

This paper proposes a secure two-way relaying (TWR) scheme using fountain codes (FCs), successive interference cancellation (SIC), and digital network coding (DNC). Using FCs, two sources exchange their data by first encoding the data into a series of packets (called encoded packets). These encoded packets are then exchanged between the sources via the help of a common relay, and they are also overheard by an eavesdropper. The packet exchange is carried out over two time slots: i) in the first time slot, both sources send their encoded packets to the rela y; and ii) the relay applies SIC to decode two received packets, and then broadcasts the exclusive OR (XORed) packet to both sources in the second time slot. The sources and the eavesdropper try to collect a sufficient number of encoded packets to successfully recover the original data. This paper derives and validates exact closed-form expressions for system throughput (TP), system outage probability (SOP), and system intercept probability (SIP) over Rayleigh fading channels. Furthermore, our findings reveal a reliability-security trade-off as well as the impact of system parameters on the network performance.
