Abstract

The exponential growth of information on the internet makes it troublesome for users to get valuable information. Text summarization is the process to overcome such a problem. An adequate summary must have wide coverage, high diversity, and high readability. In this article, a new method for multi-document summarization has been supposed based on a harmony search algorithm that optimizes the coverage, diversity, and readability. Concerning the benchmark dataset Text Analysis Conference (TAC-2011), the ROUGE package used to measure the effectiveness of the proposed model. The calculated results support the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Abstract

For buildings, structures and facilities a Lightning Protection System (LPS) is very important. There are some components that affect the effectiveness of LPS. One of the components is the lightning air terminal. With reference to the facilities requiring lightning protection the position, the apparent height, and the angle of protection of lightning air terminals determines the collection volume (CV) of the protected area. The CV of direct strike lightning air terminals can change because of the facility is affected by natural disasters such as seismic tremor and flood. If such natural disasters do happen, there are possibilities that the facilities will not be fully protected from direct lightning strikes. The building and structure could be misalignment after the seismic tremor and flood related to earth movement. So for the safety of equipment and personnel, lightning protection system efficacy assurance is necessary. Therefore, there should be a technique and device to monitor the variation of collection volume afforded by every lightning air terminal on buildings and structures after the occurrence of a natural disaster. This paper presents a new technique as well as a new device to monitor the collection volume variation. A part of the device was obtained from a recycled moveable television antenna. This approach is not only practical, portable and cost effective but also incorporating the idea of environmental protection and recycling of used plastic materials.

Abstract

 WSN (wireless sensor networks) is a kind of energy-constrained network, which has been widely used in precision agriculture environment monitoring. However, power balance is not taken into account in traditional routing algorithms. In this paper, a novel Power Balance Ad hoc On-Demand Distance Vector (PB-AODV) routing algorithm is proposed on cross-layer design to solve the problem of power balance. The main idea of our proposed algorithm is that, routing path is established by the received signal strength indication (RSSI) value in the route discovery process of PB-AODV. The optimal transmitting power which can be computed by RSSI value, power threshold and node’s surplus energy is encapsulated into route reply packet (RRP). Thus, the sender node can adaptively adjust its transmission power to save energy with the RRP. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm is effective for load balancing, and increases the WSN’s lifetime about 14.3%.

Abstract

Power supply is crucial equipment in coaxial induction coil launcher. Configuration of the driving circuit directly influences the efficiency of the coil launcher.This paper gives a detailed analysis of the properties of the driving circuit construction based on the capacitor source. Three topologies of the driving circuit are compared including oscillation, crowbar and half-wave circuits. It is proved that which circuit has the better efficiency depends on the detailed parameters of the experiment, especially the crowbar resistance. Crowbar resistor regulates not only efficiency of the system, but also temperature rise of the coil. Electromagnetic force (EMF) applied on the armature will be another problem which influences service condition of the driving circuits. Oscillation and crowbar circuits should be applied to both of the synchronous and asynchronous induction coil launchers, respectively. Half-wave circuit is seldom used in the experiment. Although efficiency of the half-wave circuit is very high, the speed of the armature is low. A simple independent half-wave circuit is proposed in this paper. In general, the comprehensive property of crowbar circuit is the most practical in the three typical circuits. Conclusions of the paper could provide guidelines for practice.

Abstract

The direct torque control-space vector modulation (DTC-SVM) is well-known for achieving excellent dynamic overmodulation. However, the method uses complicated predictive stator flux vector control and requires high precision stator flux vector to define overmodulation mode. This paper proposes a straightforward dynamic overmodulation method and constant switching frequency controller without SVM to obtain a faster dynamic torque response in DTC for induction machines. To perform this method, the flux error status produced from the flux hysteresis comparator during dynamic condition is modified slightly before being fed to the look-up table. The verification of proposed method was performed using MATLAB/Simulink simulation package. The effects of different switching and operating condition on dynamic torque performance are analyzed. The result shows that a faster torque response is achieved in proposed dynamic overmodulation DTC method. The main benefit of the proposed method is its simplicity since only minor modification is made to the basic DTC hysteresis-based structure.

Abstract

In order to improve the performance of machine learning in big data, online multiple kernel learning algorithms are proposed in this paper. First, a supervised online multiple kernel learning algorithm for big data (SOMK_bd) is proposed to reduce the computational workload during kernel modification. In SOMK_bd, the traditional kernel learning algorithm is improved and kernel integration is only carried out in the constructed kernel subset. Next, an unsupervised online multiple kernel learning algorithm for big data (UOMK_bd) is proposed. In UOMK_bd, the traditional kernel learning algorithm is improved to adapt to the online environment and data replacement strategy is used to modify the kernel function in unsupervised manner. Then, a semi-supervised online multiple kernel learning algorithm for big data (SSOMK_bd) is proposed. Based on incremental learning, SSOMK_bd makes full use of the abundant information of large scale incomplete labeled data, and uses SOMK_bd and UOMK_bd to update the current reading data. Finally, experiments are conducted on UCI data set and the results show that the proposed algorithms are effective.

Abstract

This paper discusses the study on the measured harmful gases due to traffic emission in the Meru Menora Tunnel, a Malaysia highway tunnel. The hazardous gasses data would help in promoting essential ventilation system inside the tunnel for the health and safety of the users. The emission gasses concentration reading is divided into two main components comprise of Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2), and Carbon Monoxide (CO). Other than that, the visibility also been measured by using SICK sensor. The measurement has been done during normal, festive and school holiday seasons. Festive season shows the highest number of traffic and thus giving the worst air quality. Ventilation fan system can be activated based on the concentration level of gases and visibility in the tunnel.

Abstract

Video summarization used for a different application like video object recognition and classification. In video processing, numerous frames containing similar information, this leads to time consumption and slow processing speed and complexity. By using key frames reducing the amount of memory needed for video data processing and complexity greatly. In this paper key frame extraction of Arabic isolated word using discrete wavelet transform (DWT) with modified threshold factor is proposed with different bases. The results for different wavelet basis db, sym and coif show the best result for numbers of key frames at the threshold factor value (0.75).

Abstract

Cellular CDMA systems are usually affected by interference experienced by users in adjacent cells that decrease the Quality of Services in wireless communication network. Hence, interference is the limiting factor of capacity in CDMA cellular and it is one of the problems fighting against the high efficiency of any mobile network. In this paper, a mathematical model to estimate the average number of users contributing in inter-cell interference at the busy hours of CDMA network is proposed. As the power exponent value has significant affect on interferer signal attenuation and hence other-cells interference, measurements were carried through a drive test to determine the received power level at various distance from CDMA base stations at Baghdad. The results obtained show that the power exponent was 2.71. This value was applied in dual-slop path loss model to determine the expected interference factor, and the number of users that can be hold at each cell. Simulations showed that users at a boundary cell generate more interference than those close to the base station. Furthermore, it was denoted that greater number of users caused to increase the interference factor, and greater power exponent value result in interference factor reduction.

Abstract

In this paper, a new technique of agglomerative hierarchical clustering (AHC), which is known as SLG (single linkage dissimilarity increment distribution, global cumulative score standard), can work well in analyzing students' activity in online learning as evidenced by obtaining the highest score in testing the validity index of cophenetic correlation coefficient (CPCC) ie 0.9237, 0.9015, 0.9967, 0.8853, 0.9875 of the five datasets compared with conventional agglomerative hierarchical clustering methods.
