Abstract

A method of developing a maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithm for photovoltaic (PV) utilizing a peripheral interface controller (PIC) is presented in this paper. The efficiency and adequacy of a PV depend on the temperature and the exposed position to the sun. Thus, there is an optimum point at which the operating power is at maximum. The goal is to operate the PV module at this point (MPP). It can be accomplished by using the MPPT algorithm designed with a DC-DC boost converter. The boost converter, MPPT circuit, PIC18F4550 microcontroller and PV panel are the main components used in this design. The current and voltage produced by the solar panel are observed continuously by a closed-loop control system. The microcontroller-based control system adjusts the duty cycle of the converter to extract the maximum power. With a DC input voltage of 15 V, the boost converter is capable of generating an output voltage of an approximately 60 Vdc at a maximum power of 213.42 W with minimum voltage ripple as compared to 84 W without the MPPT. It proved the effectiveness of the developed algorithm.

Abstract

The use of image processing is increasingly utilized for disease detection. In this article, an algorithm is proposed to detect uveal melanoma (UM) which is a type of intraocular cancer. The proposed method integrates algorithms related to iris segmentation and proposes a novel algorithm for the detection of UM from the approach of fuzzy logic and neural networks. The study case results show 76% correct classification in the fuzzy logic system and 96.04% for the artificial neural networks.

Abstract

The usage of BaSO4 nanoparticles on WLEDs luminous flux and color uniformity improvements have been analyzed and demonstrated in this manuscript. The mixture of BaSO4 and silicone placed on the yellow phosphor layer benefits the internal light scattering and thus enhances the angular correlated color temperature (CCT) homogeneity. Specifically, the blue-light intensity at large angles tend to increase and results in light intensity discrepancy, which can be corrected with added BaSO4. In addition to this, the BaSO4-silicone composite modifies the refractive index of the air-phosphor layer interface to an appropriate value, and thus, the luminous efficiency increases. The results show that the CCT deviations is reduced by 580 K, from 1000 K to 420 K, within the angle range from -700 to +700 with BaSO4 in the phosphor structure. The increase in luminous flux is also recorded by 2.25%, in comparison with that of the non-BaSO4 traditional structure, at the 120-mA driving current. Hence, integrating BaSO4 nanoparticles into the remote phosphor structure can contributes to the enhancement of both lumen output and CCT uniformity.

Abstract

The cognitive radio technology can improve the efficiency of spectrum utilization byproviding dynamic spectrum access to unoccupied frequency bands. Spectrum sensing is one of the key technologies of cognitive radio networks. The spectrum sensing performance of cognitive radio networks will be greatly reduced in the low SNR environment, especially when using energy detection. Because the stochastic resonance system can improve the energy detection system output SNR .To improve the spectrum sensing performance of cognitive radio networks in the low SNR environment, the stochastic resonance of the single-mode nonlinear optical system is applied to spectrum sensing based on the energy detection method in this paper. The simulation results show that in the low SNR environment, the energy detection based on stochastic resonance of the single-mode nonlinear optical system has better performance than traditional energy detection.

Abstract

As energy demands around the world increase, the need for a renewable energy sources that will not harm the environment is increased. The overall objective of renewable energy systems is to obtain electricity with competitive cost and even benefit with respect to other energy sources. The optimal design of renewable energy system can significantly improve the economical and technical performance of power supply. This paper presents the power management control using fuzzy logic control technique. Also, a complete mathematical modeling and MATLAB/Simulink model for the proposed the electrical part of an aquaculture system is implemented to track the system performance. The simulation results show the feasibility of control technique.

Abstract

Non-planar structures have been identified as promising structure for next device generation in the nanoelectronic era. However, the continuous device dimension scaling into nano regime eventually requires more sophisticated model due to the limitation of the existing models. A model for non-planar MOSFET structure was elaborated in this paper, especially for device with pillar structure, using analytical approach. The concern of channel shape and structure were discussed as well. The result shows the shift in subthreshold characteristic in the channel with recessed channel model. The charge sharing is suspected as one of the key parameter in the shift of performance in the recessed region.

Abstract

In view of the low execution efficiency and poor practicability of the existing neighbor-finding method, a fast neighbor-finding algorithm is put forward on the basis of Square Non-symmetry and Anti-packing Model (SNAM) for binary-image. First of all, the improved minor-diagonal scanning way is applied to strengthen SNAM’s adaptability to various textures, thus reducing the total number of nodes after coding; then the storage structures for its sub-patterns are standardized and a grid array is used to recover the spatial-position relationships among sub-patterns, so as to further reduce the complexity of the neighbor-finding algorithm. Experimental result shows that this method’s execution efficiency is significantly higher than that of the classic Linear Quad Tree (LQT)-based neighbor-finding method.

Abstract

The classification can be performed by using the decision tree approach. Previous researches on the classification using the decision tree have mostly been intended to classify text data. This paper was intended to introduce a classification application to the content-based image retrieval (CBIR) with multi-attributes by using a decision tree. The attributes used were the visual features of the image, i.e. : color moments (order 1, 2 and 3), image entropy, energy and homogeneity. K-means cluster algorithm was used to categorize each attribute. The result of categorized data was then built into a decision tree by using C4.5. To show the concept in application, this research built an application with main features, i.e.: cases data input, cases list, training process and testing process to do classification. The resulting tests of 150 rontgen data showed the training data classification’s truth value of 75.33% and testing data classification of 55.7%.

Abstract

Recently, there has been growing interest in recommender systems (RS) and particularly in context-aware RS. Methods for generating context-aware recommendations are classified into pre-filtering, post-filtering and contextual modelling approaches. In this paper, we present the several novel approaches of the different variant of each of these three contextualization paradigms and present a complete survey on the state-of-the-art comparisons across them. We then identify the significant challenges that require being addressed by the current RS researchers, which will help academicians and practitioners in comparing these three approaches to select the best alternative according to their strategies.

Abstract

One part of the wireless power transfer system is rectifier, where the energy which received by the receiver conditioned according to the device character. While devices with direct current as a wave form of electrical energy is commonly used. Conventional rectifier was using half wave or full wave circuit where uses diode circuit, capacitor and transformer as filter. The disadvantage of the system is reactive power and harmonization. We proposed the pulse width modulation because PWM could enhanced power factor value on an AC voltage source system with 50 Hz frequency. The main focus on which this study was based was to derive efficiency values from pulse width modulation utilization in the rectification process while the frequency work at 5 MHz and highest power at 54.48 Watt, and compare this reasearch with published research for similar systems. To achieve the objectives of this study then performed design and build system, measurement and analysis of the value of system efficiency. The results of the research obtained the highest value of efficiency at 81%.
