Abstract

This research was aimed to determine the increasing of students' motivation that has been applied by Numbered Heads Together (NHT) learning model with Science, Environment, Technology, Society (SETS) approach. The design of this study was quasi experiment with One Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The data of students’ learning motivation obtained through questionnaire administered before and after NHT learning model with SETS approach. In this research, the indicators of learning-motivation were facing tasks diligently, showing interest in variety of problems, prefering to work independently, keeping students’ opinions, and feeling happy to find and solve problems. Increasing of the students’ learning motivation was analyzed by using a gain test. The results showed that applying NHT learning model with SETS approach could increase the students’ learning motivation in medium categories.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to explore the impact of interactive-conceptual-instruction with visualization on logic thinking, conceptual understanding and spiritual aspect embedding. The sampling technique used in this research was convenience sampling. This research used mixed methods with embedded experiment design. The data of logic thinking and conceptual understanding was collected through pre-test and post-test. The questionnaires were used to collect data on spiritual attitudes and were analyzed qualitatively. The results showed that logic thinking-ability improves from no logic thinking to inductive-deductive logic thinking. The improvement of logic thinking abilities was in the medium category. Understanding the concept shifted from incompetent to conceptual understanding with improvement, in the medium category. The questionnaires analysis showed that the students got spiritual values related to the awareness of God believing behind the natural phenomena that impact on their spiritual attitudes. This study also tried to apply the results of pure science research to support learning activities. Based on the result of the research, it can be concluded that the learning process using interactive conceptual with visualization can improve logic thinking, conceptual comprehension, and spiritual attitude embeding.

Abstract

The phenomenon in the classroom where teachers are still limited space to train and to improve students' creative thinking skills (CTS) on the topic of material elasticity is the main reason for this research. Information on improving students' creative thinking skills in material elasticity topics by implementing problem based learning model (PBL) in learning is also limited. Previous research has not revealed any effort related to improving students' creative thinking skills on material elasticity topics by comparing two different learning models. Therefore this study aims to reveal differences in student learning outcomes on material elasticity materials in PBL and conventional models. Based on the research results obtained information that students 'creative thinking skills scores using PBL model is higher compared with that of conventional learning. It also revealed at each meeting that the CTS indicator of students are always improve. It can be concluded that PBL is very effective in training and improving students' creative thinking skill in physics learning. Thus PBL can be recommended in improving students' creative thinking skills.

Abstract

The paper porosity study has been done by observing microscopically. The purpose is provide airborne porosity data on various paper types, so that we can rank the ability of liquid absorption on the same paper type. This porosity analysis is done by using ImageJ, with converting the image to binary, set the threshold limit, and clarify the watershed limit. The result of the porosity of filter paper A=51,50586 , B=18,30719 ,C=21,68076 ,D=29,72028 ; tissue paper A=9,174071 ,B=20,96931 ,C=32,76454 ; HVS paper A=23,31616 ,B=27,70944 . So it can be concluded that the ability of filter paper absorption A > filter paper D > filter paper C > filter paper B. Absorption ability tissue paper C > tissue paper B > tissue paper A. Absorption ability HVS B paper > HVS paper A. In general can be inferred that the higher the porosity value of the paper the greater ability to absorb liquids on paper.

Abstract

This study aims to produce teaching materials based on inquiry physics to improve the critical thinking skills of high school students. This type of research is Research and Development and refers to the 4-D development model. This study was tested in class X. The results of this study obtained some findings include: 1) the validation of teaching materials obtained categories are very valid and reliable; 2) test legibility of physics teaching materials categorized high readability; and 3) N-gain improves students' critical thinking skills. Based on the results of this research, it can be concluded that the guided inquiry-based physics teaching materials worthy of use in learning and can improve the critical thinking skills of high school students.

Abstract

The effectiveness of hypertext media in improving graph interpretation ability is investigated in this paper. In addition, joint ability of the formal thinking to improve the graph ability of prospective students is considered. The research design used is the one-group pretest-posttest experimental design is carried out in the research by taking 36 students on from Physics Education Program in one institute for teacher education in Medan. The test consists of graph interpretation ability test in the topic of kinematics and Test of Logical Thinking (TOLT or formal thinking) before learning and graph interpretation ability test after learning. The data are then analysed by using SPSS based two ways Analisys of Variance (ANOVA) method. The results show that the ability to interpretate graph is significantly improved by using hypertext media assisted kinematic learning.

Abstract

A set up of optical illusion based on 4f system and characterization of cloaking area have been carried out. The cloaking area is an area where the object is placed on the area as if it disappears from view; the set-up of cloaking area is located at the top of the third lens. The distance between the lens and the cloaking, which is generated from 4f system, depends on the size of the focal point and the size of the lens used. The larger the focal point of the lens used the wider the distance between the lenses and the larger the size of the diameter of the lens, the cloaking range will be increasingly wide, and vice versa. From the experimental results that we obtained that the cloaking area for set up using FL (focusing lens) 100, 50, 50 and 100 mm with a diameter of 3.6 cm lens is ± 2 cm, whereas for the set up using lens FL 150, 100, 100 and 150 mm with lens diameter 2.54 cm is ± 1 cm.
