Abstract

In carrying out economic empowerment, the role of actors as other parties is needed to help the community develops their potential. The role of the actor in Pierre Bourdieu's perspective consists of shared capital with habitus. This study would like to find out the relation between the success role of actors and the provision of economic, social, and cultural capital along with changes in habitus. This research was conducted in Slumut, Kumpulrejo Village, Salatiga. This location has two main potentials, namely milk and cattle fodder/concentrate feeds processing. The actors involved in economic empowerment in Slumut, Kumpulrejo Village, were the Department of Agriculture and Livestock from the government sector and the NGO Idea from the non-government sector. The two of them assist the Farmers Group of Margoraharjo 4. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with observation techniques, in-depth interviews, and document review. The results of this study indicate that although the actors have provided capital assistance, the community's habitus is difficult to change. Raising cattle is a hereditary job that forms habitus. They are content with what is now. People do not have enough effort to reach new markets and make variations in dairy products, which means they must have a new habitus. This makes it difficult for the government to support the development of milk and cattle fodder/concentrate feed processing businesses. The results of this study indicate that it is difficult for the community to change its habitus.

Abstract

Masyumi Party (Partai Majelis Syuro Muslimin Indonesia) was a major Islamic political party inIndonesia. It was originally established by the occupying Japanese in 1943 in an attempt to control Islam inIndonesia. In 1952, Nahdlatul Ulama seceded from Masyumi and create the new party, based on traditionalsociety. The party came second in the 1955 election with 20.9% of the popular vote. During the period ofliberal democracy era, Masyumi members had seats in parliament and the party supplied prime ministerssuch as Muhammad Natsir and Burhanuddin Harahap. The group’s leaders campaigned for an Islamicstate in the 1950’s not out of a real conviction, but mainly from fear of being outflanked by the largerand more aggressive Masyumi. Under the dictatorships, the group withdrew from partisan politics, butwith the restoration of democracy it formed a new party, National Awakening, open to all religions andcommitted to a secular state. In 1958, some Masyumi members joined the PRRI rebellion against Sukarno. Two years later in 1960, Sukarno banned Masyumi and Socialist Party, and sent Masyumi leaders to jail. Keywords: Masyumi Party, opposes, democracy, government

Abstract

Children are the next generation to achieve the ideals of family, nation andcountry who have a strategic role in ensuring the existence of the nation and the state in the future, therefore, they should be free from any violence. Violence against children often happens in education at schools, both physical and non-physical (psychic). To minimize the occurrence of violence in the educational environment, the school, especially the teachers can select and use a more humanistic approach to learning by considering various dimensions to be achieved in the National Educational Objectives. One alternative to reduce the violence in the educational environment, educators or teachers can be the use of the PAKEM learning model with Child Friendly Teaching Model (CFTM) or 3P-based learning model (Provision, Protection and Participation).

Abstract

One of the Indonesia’s land border areas is Sebatik Island, Nunukan Regency, North Borneo Province, which borders on Malaysia. This article aims to examine the gap between the expectation of the improvement of educational services and the reality that the quality of educational services is still lagging behind, in Sebatik Island. The point is highlighted by the question, “Why is there gap between expectation and the reality of educational development in Sebatik?” The research method used in this study is qualitative method. Data is collected through observation, interview, and media study. Result and discussion show that border area is seen as “the backyard” of the Republic of Indonesia. Thus, no wonder if the educational development in the border areas, which is still far from the center of power becomes marginal and left behind. In overcoming the backwardness of the border area of the Republic of Indonesia, a new regional government bureaucracy is formed, which is in the form of a district government and provincial government, namely the establishment of the North Borneo Province. Educational sector is still lack of classroom, teachers, and learning facilities, which become the problems in education in the border area between Indonesia and Malaysia, in Sebatik Island. It can be concluded that regional autonomy should be followed by giving the authority to the regional government in the border area in order to improve educational sector and sufficient fund for educational facilities as well as teacher and educational staff according to the need in the border area.

Abstract

Trafficking has existed since the period of kingdoms in Java, going on to the colonialism period, andto the present time. Its meaning is broadening beyond human trading into the matters related to violence, blackmailing, and forcing. Trafficking happens not only within one specific area, but has crossed theborder of countries, indicating the existence of an international net. The mushrooming of trafficking isdue to weak law and political commitment of the concerning countries. Moreover, the bilateral talk tobanish trafficking has not been maximally conducted. The actors of trafficking vary from man-powerbrokers, agents, taxi drivers, and even officers (of transmigration and police offices). Trafficking happens invarious places ranging from luxurious spots or starred-hotels to plantations and areas which accommodatea lot of migrants. The victims are usually in so unfavorable bargaining positions that they are muchdependent on those traffickers. This dependency is the impact of imbalanced gender relation. Based onsome existing cases, it is indicated that the women’s lack of power, strength, information, and educationare often misused by the traffickers to take them as their preys. That is why empowering migrant womenis very crucial. One of the ways is empowering them through their realization that this need comes fromtheir own selves, not from any force outside. Besides, there should be strong commitment from the stateto seriously implement the law against any traffickers. Cooperation between the concerning countriesare also needed, for instance by issuing common regulations to banish trafficking. Keywords: Trafficking, migrant women, receiving country, sending country, trafficker
