Abstract

ABSTRACTSix mushrooms, Lentinus sajor-caju, Lentinus sp, Panellus sp. Polyporusgrammocephalus, Polyporus cf floccipes and Pseudopiptoporus sp (Pleurotaceae andPolyporaceae Family) were used to study antioxidant properties. Ethanolic extract of themushrooms showed scavengging ability on 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazil (DPPH) radical. In thethyociante method, there is no significant inhibition of lipid peroxidation activities between samplesand positive controls. Phytochemical identification on ethanolic extract of Pseudopiptoporus spshowed that terpenes were the major component. This finding suggested that terpenes areresposible for antioxidant activity. Keywords: Antioxidant activity, DPPH, Pleurotaceae, Polycarpaceae, Thiocyanate method

Abstract

ABSTRACTUrinary tract infections (UTIs) are the most common bacterial infection and account forsignificant morbidity and health care cost. It was well accepted that data of antibiotic utilization fortreatment of infectious diseases are needed in developing antibiotic use policy. Antibiotic utilizationstudy can provide useful information for improvement of the appropriate and effective antibiotic use. This research aims to compare antibiotic utilization for treatment of hospitalized patients withurinary tract infections at two hospitals in Yogyakarta based on drug utilization 90% (DU90%)profile. Data of antibiotic prescription were obtained from patient’s medical record for patientswhich were hospitalized during 2005 at hospital A (650 beds) and B (250 beds). Quantity ofantibiotics utilization was calculated as the number of defined daily dose (DDD) per 100 bed days(BD) based on ATC/DDD system released by WHO Collaborating Centre for Drug StatisticsMethodology. The antibiotics were ranked by percentage of DDD/100BD and antibiotics thataccounted for 90% (DU90%) were determined. Total of antibiotics use for hospitalized patients withUTIs at hospital A amounts to 65.77 DDD/100 BD included 14 classes, consisted of 24 agents ofantibiotic. Total antibiotics use at hospital B amounts to 58.22 DDD/100 BD included 9 classes, consisted of 13 agents of antibiotic. Ceftriaxone was the greatest antibiotic used at both hospitals. There were 9 items of antibiotics within DU90% at hospital A and 7 item of antibiotics at hospital B.There was a difference in the utilization of antibiotics for hospitalized patients with UTIs at twohospitals in Yogyakarta based on total number of antibiotics and number of antibiotics withinDU90% segment. Keywords : Antibiotic, ATC/DDD, DU90%, Urinary Tract Infections

Abstract

ABSTRACTPhytochemical and bioactivity studies of the leaves of Melastoma malabathricum L.(Melastomataceae) have been investigated. The n-hexane extract yielded -amyrin, patriscabatrineand auranamide, ethyl acetate extract gave quercetin and quercitrin, and methanol extract gavequercitrin and kaempferol-3-O-(2”,6”-di-O-p-trans-coumaroyl)glucoside. The crude extracts andisolated compounds were screened for their antioxidant and cytotoxic activities. The antioxidantassay was carried out by FTC and DPPH radical scavenging method. Kaempferol-3-O-(2”,6”-di-Op-trans-coumaroyl)-glucoside, quercetin and quercitrin showed strong activities with inhibition morethan 90% in the FTC method. Quercetin was found to be the most active as radical scavenger inDPPH method with IC50 of 0.69 M. -Amyrin and kaempferol-3-O-(2”,6”-di-O-p-transcoumaroyl)glucoside demonstrated the strongest activities in the anti-inflammatory assay of TPAmouse ear oedema with IC50 of 0.11 and 0.34 mM/ear, respectively. Keywords: Antiinflammatory, Antioxidant, Flavonoids, Melastomataceae, Melastomamalabathricum, Terpenoid

Abstract

ABSTRACTOxidative stress resulting from the increased production of reactive oxygen species playsa key role in the development of diabetes mellitus and its complications. Phaleria macrocarpa, atraditional plant from Indonesia, has been used empirically to control cancer, arthritis, and diabetesin society. The anti-diabetic effect and antioxidant activity of ethyl acetate (EtOAc) of Phaleriamacrocarpa (PM) was investigated in alloxan-induced diabetic rats. After two weeks administrationof PM, liver antioxidant enzyme and hyperglycemic state were evaluated. The result showed thatEtOAc fraction treatments reduced blood glucose levels in diabetic rats by oral administration(P

Abstract

ABSTRACTTwo resveratrol tetramers, (-)-vaticanol B and (-)-hopeaphenol, were isolated from acetoneextract of the tree bark of Dipterocarpus hasseltii (Dipterocarpaceae), together with the knownresveratrol trimer, (-)-α-viniferin. The structures of these compounds were established based onspectroscopic evidence, UV, IR,1H-NMR,13C-NMR and determined by comparison with thestandard compounds. The cytotoxic activities of these compounds were evaluated against murineleukaemia P-388 cells. The IC50 values of all compounds were 42.2, 5.0 and 17.5 μg/ml,respectively. In addition, chemotaxonomic significance relationship between Dipterocarpus, Shoreaand Vatica will also be briefly discussed. Keywords: Chemotaxonomy, Cytotoxic, Dipterocarpaceae, D. hasseltii,Resveratroltetramer

Abstract

ABSTRACTVirgin Cocunut Oil (VCO) is a pure coconut oil, it has many advantages in health. It hasbeen circulated in market with unpleasant taste. Therefor, an innovation to find an acceptableformula by consumer should be carried out. The aimed of this research is to find out theinfluence of mix emulsifier toward physical stability of emulsion. Multiple emulsions w/o/wwere made by mix Span 80 with variation concentration 20%, 15%, 10%, and Tween 80. In orderto know the physical stability of emulsion w/o/w should be carried out viscosity test, separation inroom temperature, separation at 40ºC, separation due to centrifugation, creaming volume, paticle size, homogenity for 4 weeks storage, and respondent survey with 20 person. The testresult for 3 formulation emulsion for 4 weeks storage showed that formulation are nothomogeneous, but arter the formulas were shaken, it become homogeneous. In variousconcentration of Span 80, the longer preperations were storage the higher volume sedimentationand viscosity. Moreover, the longer preparations were storage, creaming volume and particle sizedecrease. Emulsifier combination between Span 80 with variation concentration 20%, 15%, 10%,and tween 60 in multiple emulsion w/o/w influenced physical stability multiple emulsi w/o/w.Moreover, this formulation also would be pleasant by consumen. Keywords: Multiple emulsion w/o/w, Span 80, Tween 60, Virgin Coconut Oil
