Nowadays, multicultural society with its ideology: multiculturalism, has been paid much attention from many people. The concept has been predicted as an effective solution for conflict problems in plural societies. Jürgen Habermas, in this case, has offered his concept: discourse ethics, which gives interest to an ability for discourse. The goal of this research is to find the relevancy of the discourse ethics for multicultural society. To what extent the challenge of multicultural society could be answered by the discourse ethics. This writing shows that the discourse ethics has offered an ethical dimension in which be constructed socially for values preference. It is decided by a rational discourse. The rational discourse is a responsibility discourse which pays attentions to validity claims. The reconstruction of new values in the discourse will drive to formation of a new world which is objective and becomes a life-world where we live together. The model of multicultural society with its plurality needs discourse ability. It is hoped that with the ability people can avoid appearance of conflicts. For this, multicultural educations could be an effort to support growth of multicultural consciousness.

By the end of the twentieth century the meaning of globalization were contested in every where. Not only in the economic or political debate, but it is also in the media. There are two major questions about globalization. Is that unavoided process or just an ideological project from the owner of social power in the world? Critical perspective said that world order not only as a product from the relations between one’s states to the others but also product from the relations between social powers in the world. Include at this point are material, ideological, and institutional power. And the world order formed by the configuration of it. So, in the critical perspective, globalization isn’t a natural or given reality, because any dominant actor in this project. And this actor uses their social power to directing where the globalization goes on. Unfortunatelly, no one’s (states) try to struggle from this condition. They just keep silent in this hegemonic process. The last question is how to solve this problem? And Antonio Gramsci said that war of position and war of maneuver are the ways to solve this problem.

Welfare state on traditional or modern form still remain some weakness. On traditional form, welfare state’s emerge high burden on state budget. On the other hand, modern form of this idea was failure to finishing some classic problem— unemployment and poverty as such. This paper explores some critiques to welfare state ideas. And the most important thing is, welfare state paralysing individual’s autonomy for the sake of a reason which embodied as so called commodity: welfare.

Suicide in philosophical anthropology is an existential fact of human behavior that individually she has autonomy of her judgment, it has not connection to good and bad ethically and right and wrong religiously. Suicide shows that there are no emphatically attitude of community to human life problems, it views just as an individual problem, so someone will be hopeless if she unable to solve her problems even if it an easy one. Suicide is an alternative and solution for an individual who has no support and emphatically attitude of others (community). Suicide done by a mother and her child is a reflection of complex problems of human life in community that unable to solve by her alone self. A mother has autonomy and responsibility for her child life, so when she judge to ending her life/misery, she has right of her child. The phenomena of suicide of a mother and her child necessarily understood as a “love for child†uniquely.

In this work, “Horkheimer’s critical theory†is critically discussed in its relation with the presence of “prestigious†fact achieved by positivistic sciences. However, positivistic sciences have many contributions in providing the new dimensions for human life. In the case of Horkheimer’s critical theory, it is clear that Horkheimer does not appreciate enough the positive-capitalistic approach. Even though, the antagonistic relation between “self†and “nature†in Horkheimer’s point of view must be investigated. For social scientists that has social theory orientations and rigorous and applicative methodology, Horkheimer’s critical theory is viewed as uncompleted social theory because he never provides a comprehensive method for social analyses. Even social theory properly leaves its function in “portraying†and analyzing community, Horkheimer reminds that there is a more important function of social theory called as “emancipatory-awarenessâ€. If human beings do not believe in optimism to pick up the better situation or to realize their “utopiaâ€, actually they have failed to sense their self-existence.

The simultaneous process of social-culture transformation emerges a complex problematic in the sector of law; especially it is related with the law certainty. The clash of values occurred intensively and extensively fixes a polemic whether the law must be stable or is always in changing. The law that is always in changing will leave a certainty as an essential character of law. On the contrary, the law that stable in its nature will turn up a problem, it will not accommodate the internal dynamic. The sect of Sociological Jurisprudence, in its effort tries to formulate a harmonious synthesis by positing the significant meaning of customary law and the written constitution as a tool of social live arrangement in order to manage it better. The certainty of law will be achieved throughout continuous dialog process between rationality and experience, between fact that happen in the social life and the ideal normative of juridical values those are formulated in constitution. The certainty of law can be approached properly if it is supported by professional lawyer apparatus that has high moral integrity. The task of judge is not only to be speaker of constitution but also to enforce the justice. Therefore, the law enforcer should has sensitive feeling in understanding the phenomena of social justice that is desired by society, formulating the social justice in the constitution, and implementing the constitution wisely.
