Abstract

Abstract: Muhammad al-Ghazali is a controversial figure. Some give a positive appreciation to the method of hadith understanding he offered and regarded as a solutive method at the present day. But, other accused him as inkar al-sunnah and regarded his method was inapplicable. According to the author, some ideas of the reconstruction on the method of hadith understanding of Muhammad al-Ghazali still use a positivist paradigm that focuses on objectivity, while there are no objects without a subject. Therefore, in this paper, the author emphasizes the discussion on two points; first, criticizing the application of the method of hadith understanding of Muhammad al-Ghazali; and second, offering the new method of reconstruction using descriptive analysis and explanation method. The author examines the book of Muhammad al-Ghazali and other books that are the result of criticism of the researchers about him. The result, studying and understanding the hadiths requires a set of batiniyah in the form of consciousness and sincere intention, studying the authenticity of the hadith, structural and pragmatic analysis, and the reviewer must verify the results of intellectual activity comprehensively.Abstrak: Muhammad al-Ghazali merupakan tokoh kontroversial. Ada yang mem­berikan apresiasi positif atas metode pemahaman hadis yang ditawar­kan­nya yang dianggap solutif pada saat sekarang. Namun ada juga yang me­nuduh­nya sebagai inkar al-sunnah dan menilai metode yang ditawarkannya belum aplikatif. Menurut penulis, beberapa tawaran rekonstruksi terhadap metode pemahaman hadis Muhammad al-Ghazali masih menggunakan para­digma positivisme yang menitikberatkan pada objektivitas, padahal tidak ada objek tanpa subjek. Dalam tulisan ini, penulis menekankan dua pembahasan, yakni: mengkritik aplikasi metode pemahaman hadis Muhammad al-Ghazali; dan menawarkan bentuk rekonstruksi metode yang baru dengan menggunakan metode analisis deskriptif dan penjelasan. Penulis mengkaji buku karya Muhammad al-Ghazali dan buku-buku lain yang merupakan hasil kritikan para peneliti terhadapnya. Hasilnya, di dalam mengkaji dan memahami hadis di­perlukan seperangkat batiniyah berupa kesadaran dan niat yang ikhlas, meng­kaji otentisitas hadis, analisis struktural dan pragmatik, dan pengkaji melakukan verifikasi terhadap hasil aktifitas intelektual (pemahaman) secara komprehensif.

Abstract

Abstract: One of aspects of Islam studied by orientalists is the Qur’an. They have written many books on the Qur’ān. One of themes of Qur’anic studies written by orientalists are about influences of Judeo-Christianity tradition in the Qur’ān. They try to prove the influences of Judeo-Christianity tradition in the Qur’ān. One of orientalists who try to prove the influences of Judeo-Christianity tradition in the Qur’ān is John Wansbrough, a Jewish orientalist. In studying the Qur’ān, Wansbrough uses literary analysis, an analysis based on the text apart from historical context. He does not believe in historical context relates to Qur’anic revelation. Whereas Qur’anic revelation relates to the events occurred in Muḥammad’s life time. By using historical approach, Fazlur Rahman proves that qur’anic revelation relates to the history so-called asbāb al-nuzūl. Rahman insists that the study of the Qur’ān done by Wansbrough does not make sense. Abstrak: Di antara aspek-aspek dalam Islam yang dikaji oleh para orientalis adalah al-Quran. Sudah banyak karya mengenai al-Quran yang dihasilkan oleh para orientalis. Sebagian dari karya orientalis mengenai al-Quran bertema¬kan pengaruh Yahudi-Kristen dalam al-Quran. Para orientalis mencoba untuk membuktikan adanya pengaruh Yahudi-Kristen. Salah satu dari mereka adalah John Wansbrough. Ia mengkaji al-Quran dengan menggunakan analisis sastera (literary analysis), suatu analisis yang didasarkan pada teks terlepas dari konteks sejarah. Ia tidak mempercayai bukti-bukti sejarah berkaitan dengan turunnya al-Quran. Padahal turunnya al-Quran berkaitan dengan peristiwa-peristiwa yang terjadi masa Nabi Muḥammad. Hal ini dibuktikan dengan analisis sejarah yang dilakukan oleh Fazlur Rahman. Rahman sendiri dengan tegas mengatakan bahwa kajian terhadap al-Quran yang dilakukan Wansbrough dengan menggunakan analisis sastera tidak masuk akal karena ada banyak kejanggalan. Kata-kata kunci: analisis sastera, Yahudi-Kristen, pengaruh, sejarah, Bibel.

Abstract

Abstract: This paper presents a discussion of the contribution of muslim scientists to the development of modern science. It is well known that in the golden ages of Islam many scientists are very competent in their respective fields emerging. They succeeded in emerging as philosophers and scientists capable of filling various fields of science, such as medicine, mathematics, chemistry, physics, and so forth others. Their scholarship is valuable especially for the development of science in the future. So precious their scholarship and what they dedicated, so not infrequently the scientists who come later dub them as the father of science in their respective fields. However, not all of them will be discussed in this paper, but only the triumvirate of muslim scientists, namely Ibn Rushd, Ibn al-Haytham, dan Jabir ibn Hayyan. Their contribution is so great to the development of modern science and is recognized by scientists both in the East, and especially in the West.Abstrak: Tulisan ini menyuguhkan pembahasan mengenai kontribusi ilmuwan-ilmuwan muslim bagi perkembangan sains modern. Sudah jamak diketahui bahwa pada zaman keemasan Islam banyak bermunculan ilmuwan yang sangat kompeten di bidangnya masing-masing. Mereka berhasil tampil sebagai filosof dan saintis yang mengisi berbagai bidang keilmuwan, seperti kedokteran, matematika, kimia, fisika dan sebagainya. Keilmuwan mereka sangat berharga terutama bagi perkembangan sains pada masa-masa berikutnya. Begitu berharganya keilmuwan dan apa yang dipersembahkan oleh mereka, sehingga tidak jarang para ilmuwan yang datang belakangan menjuluki mereka sebagai bapak sains di bidangnya masing-masing. Namun, tidak semua dari mereka akan dibahas dalam tulisan ini, melainkan hanya triumvirat ilmuwan muslim, yakni Ibn Rushd, Ibn al-Haytham, dan Jabir ibn Hayyan. Kontribusi ketiganya begitu besar bagi perkembangan sains modern dan diakui kalangan saintis, baik di Timur dan khususnya di Barat.

Abstract

This article elaborates an important role in the history of Mu'tazila theology in the Islamic World. Services that have been provided by this school seems to be forgotten by the Muslims, even it became despised and persecuted theology. In fact, this theology has made a large contribution in defending against attacks originating from the Jews, Christians, Zoroastrians, and Materialist. In the modern context, the spirit of this theology is relevant to be recalled that the freedom of thought as an integral part of the human being can grow and develop so that science and technology in the Islamic world can grow back. Abstract

This research aims to explore the dynamic of Muslim Identities in a multicultural context. Taking Brisbane as a research locus, the research investigates modes of conflict resolution that are enacted in a Muslim minority area by considering the operation of Islam and Islamic modes negotiating identity within the wider society. The prime concern of the research based on the questions of how does the Muslim in Australia expresses their identity by developing the adaptation strategy as social action in a multicultural context?. Based on the questions, this article focused on the issues of the strategy of Muslim that used in responding to view and practices of multiculturalism. This research shows that Muslims in Australia have a wide variety of historical and social backgrounds. Amid Australia's multicultural politics, Australian Muslims have different responses to negotiate Islamic identity on the one hand and as Australian citizens on the other. The adaptation of Muslim in Australia then ranges from a moderate pattern, accepting a secular culture, to being reactionary as the impact of the feeling of being marginalized people as a “stepchild” in Australian citizenship.

Abstract

Abstract: This article elaborates on the concept of a fair and prosperous among the Indonesian founding fathers with the Muslim philosophers. Basic concepts of the founding fathers is Pancasila in which there is the word ‘fair’. The word ‘fair’ is also a very serious discussion among Muslim philosophers. The Muslim philosophers underlined that fair is one of the basics of leadership exemplified by the Prophet Muhammad while leading the people of Madina multi-ethnic and multi-religious, and this of course is relevant to the context of Indonesia's multi-religious, multi-ethnic and multi-class. For founding fathers, desire to create a fair society and a prosperous lofty ideals and key for the Indonesian nation. Therefore, they feel how much suffering people of Indonesia as a nation occupied by foreign interchangeably. In the occupation of Indonesia was treated unfairly, and natural wealth confiscated. This goal was already thought by the Muslim philosophers. Therefore, in comparing the two is where the significance of the concept of a just and prosperous one. Abstrak: Artikel ini akan mengelaborasi konsep negara adil dan makmur antara founding fathers (Para Pendiri Bangsa) Indonesia dengan para para filosof Muslim. Asas konsep founding fathers adalah Pancasila yang di dalamnya terdapat kata adil. Kata adil juga menjadi pembahasan yang sangat serius di kalangan filosof Muslim. Para filosof Muslim menggarisbawahi bahwa adil merupakan salah satu asas kepemimpinan yang diteladankan oleh Nabi Muhammad saat memimpin masyarakat Madinah yang multi-agama, dan ini tentu saja relevan dengan konteks Indonesia yang multiagama, multi-etnik, dan multi-golongan. Bagi founding fathers, keinginan mewujudkan masyarakat yang adil dan makmur merupakan cita-cita luhur dan utama bagi bangsa Indonesia. Sebab, mereka merasakan betapa menderitanya bangsa Indonesia ketika dijajah oleh bangsa asing yang silih berganti. Dalam penjajahan itu bangsa Indonesia diperlakukan tidak adil, dan kekayaan alam dirampas. Keinginan seperti ini ternyata sudah pula menjadi pemikiran para filosof Muslim. Karena itu, di sinilah signifikansi membandingkan kedua konsep adil dan makmur tersebut.

Abstract

Indonesia adalah negara yang paling majemuk. Harus diakui bahwa pengelolaan terhadapnya merupakan pekerjaan yang tidak mudah. Apalagi meleburkan dalam sebuah pemahaman bahwa dalam kemajemukan tersebut ada kesatuan yang harus dipegang dan diperjuangkan bersama. Oleh kjarena itu, Sumpah Pemuda yang didengungkan pada 28 Oktober 1928  adalah prestasi luar biasa yang patut mendapatkan apresiasi. Demikian pula, kesanggupan para pendiri bangsa, terutama yang berbasis agama Islam,  untuk dan demi nasionalisme  kemudian mereka menundukkan egoisme karena adanya posisi mayoritasnya juga harus mendapatkan   penghargaan. Hanya saja, belakangan ini, di beberapa kalangan semangat nasionalisme sedikit mulai melemah justru karena dipicu oleh semangat keagamaan. Mengingat kondisi demikian, maka perlu ditumbuhkan semangat nasionalisme berbasis spirit agama sehingga menjadi seorang pemeluk agama sejati adalah seorang nasionalis sejati

Abstract

Abstract: The wrong understanding of role and function of religion will make religion just function as instruments of legitimating those who use it irresponsibly. Therefore, it is important to take a certain paradigm to see and analyze the role and function of religion. That paradigm in its turn will restore religion in its essential role and function as a system of orientation and interpretation of the meaning of human life, as well as its relationship with God and others. The Theory of Religious Criticism and Communicative Practical Theory of Jürgen Habermas offers evaluative, reflective, and corrective critics of the role and function of religion. The fired criticism will, in turn, help religion restore its role and function as a bridge communicative and relational between human and God and the others. At the same time, religion is expected to return to its role and function in contributing to the realization of a receptive society in rational discursive rooms which in turn will enable the process of human emancipation. The further process of human eman­cipation is the formation of an increasingly strong personal and social identity, rooted in values or virtues derived from religion itself as the bridge that leads people to the real truth.Abstrak: Pemahaman peran dan fungsi agama yang keliru akan menjadikan agama sekadar menjadi alat legitimasi pihak yang memanfaatkannya secara tidak bertanggung jawab. Oleh karena itu, dibutuhkan paradigma untuk melihat sekaligus menganalisis peran dan fungsi agama supaya kembali pada hakikatnya sebagai sistem orientasi dan interpretasi atas hidup manusia pemaknaannya, serta relasinya dengan Tuhan dan sesama. Teori Kritik Agama dan Teori Praksis Komunikatif dari Jürgen Habermas menawarkan peluru-peluru kritik evaluatif, reflektif, dan korektif atas peran dan fungsi agama. Kritik yang ditembakkan tersebut pada gilirannya akan membantu agama mengembalikan peran dan fungsinya sebagai jembatan penghubung antara manusia dengan Tuhan dan sesamanya yang bersifat komunikatif dan relasional. Sekaligus dengan itu, agama diharapkan kembali pada peran dan fungsinya dalam memberi sumbangan atau berkontribusi pada upaya mewujudkan masyarakat yang reseptif pada ruang-ruang diskursif rasional yang pada gilirannya akan memungkinkan proses emansipasi kemanusiaan. Proses selanjutnya dari emansipasi kemanusiaan adalah pembentukan identitas personal dan sosial yang semakin kuat, yang berakar pada nilai-nilai atau keutamaan yang berasal dari agama itu sendiri sebagai jembatan yang mengarahkan manusia kepada kebenaran sejati.

Abstract

Abstract: Knowledge of the presence (ḥuḍūrī) with mystical experience as describe above is deemed the most popular models of knowledge in Islamic philosophy at the same coloring methodology and epistemology of Islam. Through logical arguments, semantic analysis and epistemo¬logy sharp Suhrawardī considered very successfully demonstrate authenticity huduri science as a science model of non-representational. Among the classical epistemological problems that have not been resolved until now -but able to be dissected in clear and distinct- is about the relationship of subject and object of knowledge, that is the problem more acute in modern Western philosophy. What is interesting is when when to review the issues very carefully and consistently Mehdi directing and bringing the students (who interest in Islamic philosophy) into the recesses of the inner world and the dialogue with the depth of their own existence. It is undeniable that Ha'iri Mehdi Yazdi take existentialist philosophy illumination Suhrawardī and MullaṢadrā as a main reference, as he learned the lesson of Plato, Aristotle, Plotinus, Ibn Sīnā, and al-Ṭūsī, citing the idea of a number of Western philosophers were actually familiar with the science huduri that he wanted to offer. However unique, he expertly directs their ideas to the conclusion that it is inevitable for us to acknowledge the existence of non - phenomenal knowledge. Abstrak:Pengetahuan dengan kehadiran (ḥuḍūrī) dibarengai pengalaman mistik seperti yang paprkan diatas dipandang model pengetahuan yang paling populer dalam filsafat Islam sekaligus mewarnai metodologi dan epistemologi Islam. Melalui argumen-argumen logis, analisis semantik dan epistemologi yang tajam Suhrawardī dipandang sangat berhasil mendemonstrasikan keautentikan ilmu huduri sebagai sebuah model ilmu non-representasional. Diantara problem-problem klasik episte-mologis yang belum terselesaikan hingga kini—tetapi mampu dibedah secara clear dan distink—adalah tentang hubungan subjek dan objek pengetahuan, yang problemnya makin akut dalam filsafat Barat modern. Yang menarik adalah ketika ketika mengulas masalah-masalah itu Mehdi sangat cermat dan konsisten mengarahkan dan membawa para murid-muridnya (peminat filsafat Islam) memasuki relung-relung dunia batin dan berdialog dengan kedalaman eksistensi mereka sendiri. Tak dapat dipungkiri bahwa Mehdi Ha’iri Yazdi mengambil filsafat iluminasi Suhrawardī dan eksistensialis MullaṢadrā sebagai acuan utamanya, seraya memetik pelajaran dari Plato, aristoteles, Plotinus, Ibn Sīnā, dan al-Ṭūsī, mengutip gagasan sejumlah filosof Barat yang sebetulnya asing dengan ilmu ḥuḍūrī yang hendak ia tawarkan. Akan tetapi uniknya, dengan piawai ia mengarahkan gagasan-gagasan mereka kepada penarik¬an kesimpulan bahwa adalah tak terelakkan bagi kita untuk mengakui eksistensi pengetahuan non-fenomenal itu. Abstract

The study of religious theology has so far been largely focused on doctrinal beliefs. In reality, the implementation of theological beliefs in today's dynamic life is more needed. This paper intends to discuss the concept of living theology and illustrate its practice at the street vendor community. The data source is taken from the primary literature, works of researchers and articles published in journals. This study found that street vendors have a relatively good religious basis. Their life spirit becomes a positive force in developing their business. Even though they face different social challenges, they can still build social relationships both internally and externally. Living theology that is seen from the lives of street vendors is work ethic, solidarity and social relations based on wisdom values. The characteristics of social theology are important to be developed, as well as an important ingredient in perfecting the living theology framework being developed.
