Abstract

The research aimed at investigating the effect of model of  problem based learning (PBL) on the concept comprehension and critical thinking skill about  ecosystem and environment of class X students’ of biology at SMA Negeri 1 Sigi. The method used is quasi-experimental pretest-posttest 2 x 2. The research sample is determined with random sampling. The class selected as the research sample was class X A and X B. The data was collected by using the concept comprehension test in form of  multiple and  the critical thinking skill test in form of essay test. Data obtained was the primary data which directly analyzed descriptively and analysis of covariance. Resuts of the data analysis at significance level α = 0,05 is at follow: (1) the learning outcomes (the concept comprehension) of student that were learned by the model of problem based learning (PBL) (mean=72,86) was higher than the cognitive learning outcomes of studens that were learned with the conventional learning (mean=58,93) with a significance value of  0,003.  (2) the learning outcomes (critical thinking skill) of student that were learned by the model of  problem based learning (PBL) (mean=74,12) was higher than the cognitive learning outcomes of studens that were learned with the conventional learning (mean=57,45) with a significance value of 0,018.  Based on the result of  this research, it can be concluded that: there are the effect  of model of  problem based learning (PBL) on the concept comprehension and critical thinking skill about   ecosystem and environment of  class X students’ of biology at  SMA Negeri 1 Sigi.

Abstract

This research aims to know community structure of crabs present in mangrove at Pinotu village, Toribulu subdistrict, Parigi Moutong regency and to developed its resultant for biology learning media being a pocket boo. The research was descriptivelycarried out at the village and was improved to design 4D. Sampling was undertaken by observing crabs found in each of the determinate stations in which those was then divided into quadrant transect and retrieval time consisting of 11.30 – 12.30; 17.00 – 18.00; 23.30 – 24.30 periods. The resultant observation was eventually to be a pocket book for biology learning media. Results of the research showed that 6 species of crabs were found in the area including Uca annulipes, Uca rosea, Uca paradussumieri, Scylla serrata, Epixanthus dentatus, and Sarmatum germaini. Total of the observed crabd was 297 individuals. Absolute density value and retrieval times were mostly found in station II during 18.00 – 19.00 periods. Sarmatium germaini was a species of crabs possessing the highest of the relative density value (55,56%). Moreover, diversity index per station ranged 0.7305 – 0.7491 that means it was less then 1.0 indicating a low diversity. For dominancy index, it ranged 0.678 – 0.776. the highest dominancy was observed in station III valued 0.0776 suggesting that a richness of species of crabs was a quite low. Distribution patterns of species present in station I, III, and III were 0.394, 0.304, and 0.016, respectively, recommending that those were uniform distribution patterns. These seems that the habitats, physical factors, retrieval times strongly affected on crab community present in the mangrove forest. In addition, data analysis showed that the community structure of crabs in mangrove forest at Pinotu village was categorized as a low diversity that it was highly resulted in an ecological pressure. The developed pocket book has been validated by content, media, and design experts providng the following value: 91.4%, 9.71%, 77.33%. it has also been tried out to small group and larged group giving the values; 87.2%  and 84.4% respectively. Accordingly, the pocket book can be appropriately used as biology learning media.

Abstract

Eels (genus  of Anguilla)  has long been the object  of intensive  research.  The province of Central  Sulawesi  has an abundant  source of eel seeds (glass eel phase)  especially  from the species  of Anguilla  marmorata.  The highest  abundance  of eel seeds occurs  during the period of dark moon along the estuaries  flowing  to the Tomini  Bay. The objectives  of the research were to study the species  diversity  of eels (Anguilla  sp.), to study the species  composition  of the eels, and to study the size structures  of the eels (Anguilla  sp.) migrating  upstream  to the River Tonombo.  Identification   of the eel samples  was conducted  by using morphometric method  that was the ratio between  predorsallength    (PD) and anadorsallength    (PA), and total length (TL). During  sampling  periods  there were three species  of eels identified  migrated upstream  to River Tinombo,  and they were Anguilla  marmorata,  A. selebecensis,   and one unknown  species  labelled  as Anguilla  sp. The species  of A. marmorata  had the highest abundance  (86%). It was followed  by A. celebecensis   (10%) and Anguilla  sp. (4%). Results showed  that spatially  the eels found  in River Tinombo  decreased  in number  but increased  in their weight.  While temporally,  their abundance  were different  each month.  It seemed that eels migrated  upstream  in order to grow.

Abstract

This research conducted in the area of paddy fields Maranatha village, Sigi Sigi Biromaru Sub-district of Central Sulawesi. Held from December 2011 to March 2012. Research objectives get the right soil processing time towards growth and yield of rice plant, get the right planting distance in improving growth and yield of rice plant and get the right planting distance at any time of soil processing. This research is conducted in the form of a field experiment in rows with two separate Grid Design factors. As the main plot a time processing soil (P), which consists of two equal i.e. processing the soil 6 days before the planting (P1), and processing  the soil of the 12 days before the planting (P2). As the son of harvesting is the distance (J) consisting of six equal i.e. 20 cm x 10 cm legowo 40 cm (J1), 20 cm x 15 cm legowo 40 cm (J2), 20 cm x 20 cm legowo 40 cm (J3), 20 cm x 15 cm legowo 30 cm (J4), 20 cm x 20 cm legowo 30 cm (J5) and 20 cm x 20 cm. The research results show the processing soil of the 12 days before planting accelerate planting flowering (73.90, off the day after a plant), produce of rice each more (147,46  panicle seeds-1), and dry milled of rice yield per hectare was higher (6,065 ton ha-1). The implementation of planting distance pattern 20 cm x 15 cm legowo 30 cm produce of rice dry grind higher (6,568 ton ha-1). The implementation of planting distance pattern 20 cm x 20 cm legowo 40 cm with   12 day processing soil before planting produces tillers (25,90 panicle clump-1), longer panicle (27,06 cm), more productive tiller (14,63 panicle grove-1) and less percentage empty of rice (9,48%).

Abstract

The research was conducted in the second semester in class VII SMPN I Ulubongka Tojo Una Una district number of students 21 he who consisted of 12 students, male and 9 female students. The school year 2014-2015. The purpose of the study was to describe the activities and learning outcomes of students of class VII SMPN I Ulubongka Tojo Una Una District after a given a learning science by using Multimedia. The method used descriptive method problem with classroom action research design according to Kemmis and Mc. Taggart with two cycles. Each cycle consists of two meetings. The results showed that the activity of the first cycle of students meeting the value 62,50%, the second cycle II meeting be 69,64%,and the second cycle of  meetings I scored 80,36%,the second cycle II meeting be 91,07%. Student learning outcomes with preetest 52,52%,Absorption classical first cycle of meetings I value I 66,33%,the first cycle of meetings II value 70,76%, cycle II meeting I value 78,95%,the second cycle II meeting be 85,76%. Mastery learning classical first cycle of meetings I value 23,81%, the first cycle of meetings II value 66,67%, cycle II meeting I value 88,71%, the second cycle II meeting tobe 100%.Increased student learning outcomes in the first cycle to the value of  N-Gain 0,14 (low) but then increased again to 0,30 (moderate) in cycle 2. Thus, it was cocluded that the application of multimedia in Learning Natural Science results can increase the activity and student learning in class VII SMPN I Ulubongka Tojo Una Una District.

Abstract

This research aims at finding out about the Abundance of plankton development in Rano lake Balaesang Tanjung district as learning media. The research used descriptive qualitative method, population of the research was the whole plankton components in Rano lake. The sample was drawn through purposive sampling with 4 times repetition. The research result reveal that the abundance of plankton consists of 16 spesies the purpose of them 7 class phytoplankton and 3 class of zooplankton. The spesies is Melosira italica, Eucoconeis sp, Opephora martyi, Cyclotella sp, Syendra flugens, Surirella sp, Microcoleus sp, Mougetia viridis, Actinastrum gracillimum, Closterium sp, Hyalosphenia cuneata, Ceratium sp, Cyclops sp, Hyperia sp, Halicyclops sp and Trichocerca iernis. The results also showed  that the highest abundance of plankton in the morning and in the afternoon is Synedra flugens. Beside, in the day and night the highest abundance is Microcoleus sp. Assessment instructional product of development media video categorized achievement. Therefore, it can be concluded that the abundance of plankton in Rano lake Balaesang Tanjung and its development is viable medium to be a  learning is used as a learning source.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to identify the internal factors (the strength and weakness), the external one (opportunity and threat) and to state the alternative of development strategy for Narasa Home Industry.  It was carried out in Narasa home industry of North Palu. The sampling was done purposively. Environment analysis, SWOT, and QSPM is used to analyze the development strategy decision.  The analysis referred to the EFE matrix and IFE  producing the biggest power, namely the good quality of material, the biggest weakness is uninteresting product package; the biggest opportunity is the support of Palu Government while the biggest threat is the increasing of raw materials and additional material prices.  The result of  industrial position determination and the SWOT analysis were S-O strategy to increase the quality, defend the products price, promote and penetrate market with target of middle class of society.  QSPM analysis resulting the most interesting strategy for the development of this industry is increasing the quality and defending the price.

Abstract

Process Skill and critical thinking regarding to natural science in  six grade  student of SDN 1 Kalukubula are still at lower level due to the teaching and learning activities have been using regular group or convensional model. This research implementing the cooperative model on STAD type in two cycles. The result of process skill classically increased from 74,58% at the first cycles to  81,67% on the second cycles. Meanwhile the result of critical thinking skill classically increased from 70,38% on the first cycles to 76, 88% on the second cycles. Students attitude toward group works in the second cycles also increased with the subjection mean 97,92%. The teacher activities in teaching and learning process have been done very well that is 100%. Based on learning these results,  it could be concluded that the implementation  of cooperative model on STAD type can improve the process skill and the critical thinking in pertinent to  science of elementary school students.

Abstract

This study is a qualitative study aimed to obtain a description of the process of thinking vocational students with musical intelligence and kinesthetic, within solving mathematical problems based on Polya rules. The results of this study were: a) at the time to understand the math problems first by repeated readings, accompanied by movements of the body and / or play objects; b) at the time of plan problem solving, each just used plan a strategy, subjects with musical intelligence was relatively more patient witin finding the idea of solving than subjects with kinesthetic intelligence; c) when implementing the plan problem solving, each using the solving steps according to plan, subject to the musical intelligence to do it relatively more thorough and careful than subjects with kinesthetic intelligence; d) at the time of re-examine the results of its work, each recheck before finally, but the subject of the musical intelligence to re-examine the results of his work after until final.

Abstract

Qualitative analysis has been done on the effect of social persuasion toward students’ behavior in pair problem solving. The research subjects were two male students of Class XI  from a senior high school in district of Parigi-Moutong. Each student in the group had different role. Both students also exchang role in the problem solving. One student was as a model to solve  problems and another student was as an observer. The instrument of the study was a test that consisted of 3 items. The test was used to explore students’ behaviour  during the pair problem solving. Semi-structured interviews were conducted in two phases. The first phase was after the problem solving and the second was after video analysis. The activities were recorded using video cameras: three cameras were in the problem solving and one in the interview. Based on data analysis, it can be stated that social persuasion  is  dominant aspect affecting self-efficacy beliefs of students in pair  problem solving.
