Abstract

The development of process technology has increased system performance, but the system failure probability has also significantly increased. It is important to consider the system reliability in addition to the cost, performance, and power consumption. In this paper, we describe the types of faults that occur in a system and where these faults originate. Then, fault-injection techniques, which are used to characterize the fault rate of a system-on-chip (SoC), are investigated to provide a guideline to SoC designers for the realization of resilient SoCs.

Abstract

The lightning energy can be very harmfull to the wind turbine farm components. This paper attempts to evaluate the overvoltages at the sensitive points in wind farm, using ATP-EMTP package program. Four cases were performed; a) the transient voltage distribution in the insulating layer of the control line, b) the transient voltage on the control equipment, c) the coupling voltage between the tower and the control, and, d) the transient voltage distribution in the wind turbine WT Generator, Boast transformers and grid. These cases were performed under different lightning current conditions and at conventional design and proper design of grounding system. The results show that the Ground Potential Rise (GPR) is reduced with using the proper design of wind turbine ground system, but the induced voltage at the control system will not affected. This work determines the optimum location of wind turbine at the areas of maximum lightning incidence. Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) technique is implemented to find the optimum wind farm location. This work enhances the protection strategy of the wind farms against lightning stroke.

Abstract

Clothing is a human used to cover the body. Clothing consist of dress, pants, skirts, and others. Clothing usually consists of various colors or a combination of several colors. Colors become one of the important reference used by humans in determining or looking for clothing according to their wishes. Color is one of the features that fit the human vision. Content Based Image Retrieval (CBIR) is a technique in Image Retrieval that give index to an image based on the characteristics contained in image such as color, shape, and texture. CBIR can make it easier to find something because it helps the grouping process on image based on its characteristic. In this case CBIR is used for the searching process of Muslim fashion based on the color features. The color used in this research is the color descriptor MPEG-7 which is Scalable Color Descriptor (SCD) and Dominant Color Descriptor (DCD). The SCD color feature displays the overall color proportion of the image, while the DCD displays the most dominant color in the image. For each image of Muslim women's clothing, the extraction process utilize SCD and DCD. This study used 150 images of Muslim women's clothing as a dataset consistingclass of red, blue, yellow, green and brown. Each class consists of 30 images. The similarity between the image features is measured using the eucludian distance. This study used human perception in viewing the color of clothing.The effectiveness is calculated for the color features of SCD and DCD adjusted to the human subjective similarity. Based on the simulation of effectiveness DCD result system gives higher value than SCD.

Abstract

We describe, in this article, the design of a low-cost and compact radiometer with five analog channels for spectral acquisition: four in the visible (blue, green, red and panchromatic) and one channel in the near-infrared. This small embedded system is based on an 8-bit microcontroller for automatic data acquisition, calibrating, storing and serial link processing with a compatible PC, through a C++ application software provided to handle and deal with the mass of data collected and stored in an EEPROM. The acquisition of spectral reflectance measurements of an object for different wavelengths allows the construction of a characteristic curve, named spectral signature of the object. The study of the spectral signatures of different types of surfaces such as water, bare ground or vegetation allows their identification in remote sensing image processing, and  consequently, facilitates the interpretation of this kind of data, as, for instance, the AVHRR data of the HRPT images acquired and freely distributed by the satellite NOAA.

Abstract

Cryptography, which involves the use of a cipher, describes a process of encrypting information so that its meaning is hidden and thus, secured from those who do not know how to decrypt the information. Cryptography algorithms come with the various types including the symmetric key algorithms and asymmetric key algorithms. In this paper, the authors applied the most commonly used algorithm, which is the RSA algorithm together with the Chaos system and the basic security device employed in the worldwide organizations which is the Data Encryption Standard (DES) with the objective to make a hybrid data encryption. The advantage of a chaos system which is its unpredictability through the use of multiple keys and the secrecy of the RSA which is based on integer factorization’s difficulty is combined for a more secure and reliable cryptography. The key generation was made more secure by applying the DES schedule to change the keys for encryption. The main strength of the proposed system is the chaotic variable key generator that chages the value of encrypted message whenever a different number of key is used. Using the provided examples the strength of security of the proposed system was tested and demonstrated.

Abstract

The paper presents a variability-aware modified 9T SRAM cell. In comparison to 6T SRAM cell the proposed  cell achieves 1.3× higher read-SNM and 1.77× higher write-SNM with 79.6% SINM (static current noise margin) distribution at the expense of 14.7× lower WTI (write trip current) at 0.4 V power supply voltage, while maintaining similar stability in hold mode. Thus, comparative analysis exhibits that the proposed design has a significant improvement, thereby achieving high cell stability at 45nm technology.

Abstract

This paper presents a review on recent developments and future trends in zinc oxide thin film transistors (ZnO TFTs) together with challenges involved in this technology. It highlights ZnO TFT as next generation choice over other available thin film transistor technology namely a – Si: H (amorphous hydrogenated silicon), poly-Si (polycrystalline silicon) and OTFT (organic thin film transistor). This paper also provides a comparative analysis of various TFTs on the basis of performance parameters.  Effect of high –k dielectrics, grain boundaries, trap densities, and threshold voltage shift on the performance of ZnO TFT is also explained.

Abstract

The bulk of semiconductor technology has been based on silicon till today. But silicon has its own limitations. It is not transparent to visible light and hence it cannot be used in certain applications. ZnO is a material which is transparent to visible light. In this paper, we compare the electrical performance of ZnO Thin film Transistors using different gate insulators. Certain performance indices and material indices were considered as the selection criteria for electrical performance. A methodology known as Ashby’s Approach was adopted to find out the best gate insulators and based on this methodology various charts were plotted to compare different properties of competing materials. This work concludes that Y2O3 is the best insulator followed by ZrO2 and HfO2.

Abstract

Virtualization is the central point which empowers cloud infrastructure. Many services such as Web-based applications, databases and instant messaging servers have been running on virtual systems to reduce total cost ownership and to get immediate returns on investments. However, applications which are concerned with the latency, such as Voice over IP (VoIP) applications, are rarely found in virtual systems. Hence, our aim is to study VoIP’s behavior in the virtualization environment. Apart from this, VoIP infrastructure should also be equipped with a security shield to protect itself from various forms of security threats; this security setup also brings an extra overhead response time. Hence, in this article, we have implemented VoIP on virtual machine (VM-VoIP) and measured the signaling process of VoIP systems. Performance of the proposed system is studied with and without a security shield.  It is observed that the virtualization environment never induces delay during the registration request delay (RRD) part of the signaling. However, the analysis shows that the delay increases with the number of calls during the session request delay (SRD) part of signaling. In addition, the VM-VoIP system consumes more CPU for VoIP call sessions under the security shield.

Abstract

The wave concept iterative process is a procedure used for analyses a planar circuits This method consists in generating a recursive relationship between a wave source and reflected waves from the discontinuity plane which is divided into cells. A high computational speed has been achieved by using Fast Modal Transform (FMT). In this paper we study a patch antenna and multilayer circuits, to determine the electromagnetic characteristics of these structures.
