Abstract

Phytophthora capsici is the most important plant parasitic fungus causes stem rot disease in black pepper cultivation in Indonesia. The objective of the present study was to observe morphological variation and virulence of Phytophthora isolated on black pepper from various areas in Indonesia. Fifty isolates of Phytophthora were observed under light microscope. The observed morphological characteristics of each isolate, i.e. sporangiophore branching type, colony type, mating type and shape of sporangium after they were grown in growth medium of V8 juice agar, while length and width of sporangium, length of sporangiophore, and papilla were measured by micrometer. The variation of their virulence was observed by inoculating the hypha of each isolate on detached leaves of black pepper that incubated in damped boxes in room conditions. The width of necrotics were measured with leaf area meter after incubated for four days. The results indicated, those morphological characteristics of the isolates were vary in size, shape, colony pattern, mating type and sporangiophore branching pattern, which those characteristics were belong to P. capsici. Those morphological characteristics were not related with the mating type, isolated plant parts and its geographic distribution. The virulence of the tested isolates were also vary from low to high, and their virulence were also not related with the mating type, isolated plant parts and its geographic distribution. AbstrakPhytophthora capsici merupakan cendawan penyebab penyakit busuk pangkal batang yang paling banyak menimbulkan kerusakan pada tanaman lada di Indonesia. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengamati variasi morfologi dan virulensi Phytophthora yang diperoleh dari berbagai lokasi pertanaman lada di Indonesia. Setelah ditumbuhkan pada media V8 jus agar, sebanyak 50 isolat Phytophthora diamati karakteristik morfologinya di bawah mikroskop cahaya, yang meliputi tipe percabangan tangkai sporangium, tipe koloni, tipe kawin, dan bentuk sporangium. Pengukuran panjang dan lebar sporangium, tangkai sporangium, dan papilla dilakukan menggunakan micrometer. Variasi virulensi yang ada diamati dengan cara menginokulasikan potongan hifa dari setiap isolat pada helaian daun lada, kemudian diinkubasi di dalam kotak yang lembab dan diletakkan di suhu ruang. Setelah diinkubasi selama empat hari, luas nekrose yang terjadi diukur menggunakan leaf area meter. Hasil pengamatan menunjukkan adanya variasi karakterisitik morfologi dari setiap isolat pada tipe koloni, tipe kawin, percabangan sporangium, ukuran, dan bentuk sporangium. Semua isolat menunjukkan karakteristik P. capsici. Variasi morfologi yang ada tidak berkaitan dengan tipe kawin, asal bagian tanaman yang diisolasi, dan geografi asal isolat. Lima puluh isolat P. capsici juga bervariasi virulensinya, dari rendah sampai tinggi. Variasi virulensi tersebut juga tidak berkaitan dengan tipe kawin, asal bagian tanaman yang diisolasi maupun geografi asal isolat.

Abstract

These studies were conducted in September 2004 by using square inventory (1,000 x 1,000 m on 100 ha) and divided into 5 strips measuremences which laid down by purposive systematic sampling. Observation within the transect were on stage of tree, pole, sapling, and seedling measured. Predominant species were meranti (Shorea spp.) with INP 38.3%, pisangpisang (Mezzetia parviflora) INP 26.6%, and mertibu (Dacrylocladus stenostachys) INP 23.2%. The tree stages of geronggang was INP 8.8%, poles stage INP 6.5%, sapling stage INP 9.5%, and seedling stage INP 10.8%. Geronggang is closely related to rengas (Gluta renghas) with Ochiai index 0.48, pisang-pisang (M. parviflora) 0.47, and terentang (Campnosperma auriculata) 0.46. However, this species did not associate with kelansau (Dryobalanops abnormis) 0.09, kayu malam (Diospyros bantamensis) 0.11, and kenari (Canarium caudatum) 0.12. AbstrakPenelitian bertujuan untuk mengetahui ekologi dan potensi geronggang (C. arborescens) di habitat alamnya, dilakukan pada bulan September 2004. Penelitian menggunakan satuan contoh berbentuk bujur sangkar dengan ukuran 1000 x 1000 m (100 ha). Di dalam petak bujur sangkar dibuat jalur dengan lebar 20 m, panjang 1000 m, sebanyak lima jalur. Pada jalur ini dilakukan pengukuran semai, pancang, tiang, dan pohon. Jenis tumbuhan yang mendominasi tegakan di kelompok hutan Sungai Bepasir-Sungai Siduung, adalah meranti (Shorea spp.) dengan INP 38,3%, pisang-pisang (Mezzetia parviflora) dengan INP 26,6%, dan mertibu (Dacrylocladus stenostachys) dengan INP 23,2%. Jenis geronggang hanya memiliki INP 8,8%. Jenisjenis yang berasosiasi kuat dengan geronggang adalah rengas (Gluta renghas) dengan indeks Ochiai 0,48, kemudian diikuti oleh jenis pisang-pisang (M. parviflora) dengan indeks 0,47, dan terentang (Campnosperma auriculata) dengan indeks 0,46. Jenis yang berasosiasi dengan geronggang tetapi tidak kuat adalah kelansau (Dryobalanops abnormis) dengan indeks 0,09, kayu malam (Diospyros bantamensis) dengan indeks 0,11, dan kenari hutan (Canarium caudatum) dengan indeks 0,12.

Abstract

Taro have been cultivated and consumed as a food supplement in Indonesia. Beside it used as a food, it is also as source of industrial purposes, such as a part of raw material of cosmetic or plastic. Characteristic of tuber (corm) of taro determine their usage. Utilization of germplasm collection of taro could be done more intensively by studying their morphological characters. Experiment was conducted in 2005 consisted of 170 accessions of taro. Morphological characters of tuber have been observed at harvest time. Result of the study show that variability of morphological characters were exist within areas or among areas. There are several interesting varieties which have long umbi or high tuber yield and specific tuber flesh color. AbstrakTanaman talas telah lama dibudidayakan dan dimanfaatkan sebagai sumber pangan tambahan di Indonesia. Di samping sebagai sumber pangan, talas juga dapat dimanfaatkan untuk keperluan industri, misalnya sebagai bahan baku kosmetik dan plastik. Karateristik umbi talas menentukan penggunaannya. Pemanfaatan talas dapat ditingkatkan dengan mempelajari sifat-sifat morfologi yang dimiliki plasma nutfah yang telah dikoleksi. Percobaan dilaksanakan pada tahun 2005 terdiri atas 170 aksesi plasma nutfah talas. Karakter morfologi umbi diamati setelah panen. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat keragaman karakter morfologi dalam daerah atau antar daerah asal plasma nutfah. Dari koleksi plasma nutfah yang telah dimiliki diperoleh aksesi yang menarik seperti umbi talas yang panjang dengan warna daging umbi yang khas.

Abstract

The experiment was done on two couples of deer to determine digestilibities and consumption of grass and corn. Each heads of deers of 12-14 months, each couple was managed on difference model of stable (mini ranch and traditional stable) the grass was kept available to deers during the periods of observation and corn was given every two days (250 g). Description analysis and Tillman et al. formula (1984) were implemented to know the level of consumption and digestibility of feed on difference model of stable. Quantitativelly, the deers on the mini ranch were the best; the digestilibities of its constituents were 58.4% crude fibre; 58.9% organic matter and 47.7% dry matter, digestilibities on the tradisional stable were 49.2% crude fibre; 52.2% organic matter and 50.7% dry matter. Feed consumption of the deers on the mini ranch and traditional stable were 1.570 kg and 1.440 kg. AbstrakPenelitian dilakukan terhadap dua pasang rusa untuk mengetahui daya cerna dan konsumsi ransum berupa rumput dan jagung. Umur rusa berkisar antara 12-14 bulan, setiap pasang rusa dipelihara dalam kandang yang berbeda, yaitu kandang tradisional (model panggung) dan kandang terbuka (mini ranch). Jenis pakan yang diberikan adalah rumput lapangan yang diberikan secara adlibitum dan jagung diberikan setiap 2 hari sekali, setiap pemberian sebanyak 250 g. Untuk mengetahui konsumsi dan daya cerna pakan oleh rusa di kandang yang berbeda dilakukan analisis secara deskriptif dan perhitungan dengan rumus Tillman et al. (1984). Dari hasil pengamatan diketahui daya cerna ransum pada kandang terbuka, yaitu bahan organik (58,9%), serat kasar (58,4%), dan bahan kering (47,7%). Daya cerna ransum pada rusa dengan model kandang panggung adalah serat kasar (49,20%), bahan organik (52,24%), dan bahan kering (50,7%). Konsumsi bahan kering ransum pada rusa dengan kandang model terbuka dan kandang model panggung masing-masing sebesar 1.570 kg dan 1.440 kg.

Abstract

Selection of progenies and lines of potato. Selection was performed at Indonesian Vegetable Research Institute (IVEGRI), Lembang (1250 asl) in 2006. Seven F1 progenies resulted from previous crossing were grown with population ranging from 50 to 200 seedlings. From the tuber yield had been selected 183 accessions. Out of these selected accessions, 173 accessions were planted with population ranging from 5 to 30 tubers. There were 55 lines showed promising as selected based on tuber yield that more than 300 g/plant, shallow to medium depth of tuber eyes, medium to large tuber size and good taste. There were four lines showed good quality for potato chips. AbstrakSeleksi dilakukan di Kebun Percobaan Balai Penelitian Tanaman Sayuran, Lembang (1250 m dpl) pada tahun 2006. Tujuh progeni F1 hasil persilangan ditanam dengan populasi 50-200 tanaman. Hasil seleksi pertama terpilih 183 aksesi, kemudian yang berhasil ditanam kembali sebanyak 173 aksesi. Tiap aksesi ditanam 5-30 umbi. Hasil seleksi kedua terpilih 55 galur dengan hasil lebih tinggi dari 300 g/tanaman, mata umbi dangkal dan medium, ukuran umbi relatif besar, dan rasa enak. Empat galur di antaranya sangat cocok untuk dijadikan bahan baku kripik kentang.

Abstract

Podang Urang mango is one of the local superior fruit from Kediri regency, East Java. This mango has atrractive appearance with red-orange skin colour, orange flesh, beautiful shape, medium size (about 200-250 g per fruit), sweet taste, strong smell, soft fibre and enough water content, so that it is appropriate for both fresh and processed fruit. Although most of the plants are hundred years old, they can produce about 60- 200 kg mango per tree. Podang variety has been developed in East Java, especially in Kediri regency with total plants as many as 524.126 trees in Kediri. They were planted on hilly land as conservation plants as well as homeyard plants. The mango have good market at national level, especially in the big cities and has been exported in a small quantity to Singapore. It’s appearance seems suitable to the demands of consumers from Korea, Japan, and Singapore, so that there will be a large opportunity for export. Based on those prospective chances, this mango variety should be produced in large scale to supply export market. Lack of promotion was one of the key factor that limit the market of this mango. AbstrakMangga Podang Urang merupakan salah satu produk buah unggulan lokal dari Kabupaten Kediri, Jawa Timur. Kekhasan yang dimiliki oleh mangga Podang Urang terutama adalah pada penampilan warna kulit buah merah jingga menarik, daging buah jingga, bentuk buah cantik, ukuran buah tidak terlalu besar (sekitar 200-250 g/buah), rasa buah manis, aroma buah tajam, serat halus, dan cukup banyak mengandung air sehingga sesuai untuk buah segar maupun olahan. Walaupun rata-rata tanaman telah berumur ratusan tahun, namun mampu berproduksi sekitar 60-200 kg/pohon. Saat ini tanaman mangga Podang telah berkembang di Kabupaten Kediri dengan jumlah tanaman 524.126 pohon, berada di perbukitan sebagai tanaman konservasi pada lahan kering dan sebagai tanaman pekarangan yang di antaranya terdapat mangga Podang Urang. Mangga Podang Urang tampaknya sesuai dengan permintaan konsumen dari Korea, Jepang, dan Singapura yang menyukai mangga berpenampilan menarik dengan rasa buah campuran manis dan sedikit masam. Saat ini pemasaran buah mangga Podang Urang sudah berkembang di Jawa Timur dan di provinsi lainnya. Tampaknya mangga Podang Urang mempunyai pangsa pasar yang baik di tingkat nasional dan perlu terus dikembangkan untuk memenuhi kebutuhan pasar ekspor. Mangga Podang Urang sudah diekspor ke Singapura dan perlu dikembangkan lagi ke beberapa negara lainnya.
