Abstract

The land use in Argopuro Mountain is very diverse but not much information on the existence of wildlife, especially bird species that important role in helping the regeneration of natural forests and has not been documented its existence. The purpose of this study to determine the diversity of bird species in some land use around the area of Mount Argopuro. Data collection of species and number of birds using stratified systematic sampling with point counts method on each land use planted forest, protected forest, mountain rainforest, savanna and pine forest in the area of Argopura Mountain. Data analysis was done to calculating the diversity index of Shannon bird species. Medium index diversity of bird species was found in planted forest (2.6) and protected forest (2.48); the lowest in the pine forest (1.64), the mountains rainforest (1.96) and savanna (0.68).

Abstract

Indonesia is one country that is rich will flora and fauna which are biological resources. Plant secondary metabolites is a resource that is used for drugs. Besides can be extracted directly from the plant, also can be synthesized to obtain chemical compounds or their derivatives, through the development of cell culture. The impact of the use of synthetic pesticides / chemicals have an impact that is not good for health and cause disruption of the ecological balance. This paper aims to determine the potential utilization of secondary metabolites in plant soursop (Annona murricata) and sugar apple (Annona squamosa) as botanical pesticides to control pests and plant diseases. Plants soursop (Annona muricata) and sugar apple (Annona squamosa) has potential as a pesticide plant in controlling pests and diseases in plants. Results of phytochemical screening on extracts of leaves of the soursop (Annona muricata) found secondary metabolites: alkaloids, flavonoids, terpenoids, coumarin and lactones, anthraquinone, tannins, glycosides, phenols, phytosterols, and saponins, while the detection of the presence of a group of chemical compounds in seed extracts Soursop ( Annona muricata) and sugar apple (Annona squamosa), found secondary metabolites: alkaloids, flavonoids, polyphenols, terpenoids, coumarin, steroids, lactones, anthraquinone, tannins, glycosides, and saponins cyanadin. Natural pesticides are reducing pests, but is not directly Plant Pest Organisms (PPO) pests quickly. Natural pesticide application with the correct dose, can reduce pests, reduce costs and be environmentally friendly.

Abstract

Leucopsar rothschildi (Jalak Bali) is an endemic bird species that only be found in the forests of the western of Bali Island. Wild catching and declining forest are the main factors of the declining population. The National Park of West Bali is the last bastion. The habit of living for activity and nesting in the trees make the importance of tree stand to be preserved. Therefore, this study was conducted to analyze the utilizations characteristics of trees by the birds in their original habitat in SPTN III West Bali National Park. The method used was concentration count to observe the characteristics utilization of trees and canopy. Behavior in their natural habitat was observed using Ad Libitum method. Data analysis was conducted by calculating percentage in each part of the usage of canopy and behavior type. The use of the canopy of trees in SPTN III of Labuhan Lalang TNBB by the birds for Tanjung Gelap was more frequent in the upper canopy (TA) section, in Labuhan Lalang more often in the middle canopy (TT) and the middle side canopy (TTt). Frequently activity in the canopy of SPTN III Labuhan Lalang by the birds was social activity.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aimed to obtain and identify the indigenous yeasts isolated from Borassus flabellifer L. juice and its potency in ethanol production. Steps of this study included isolation, enumeration, characterization, identification and ethanol production and measurement of ethanol concentrations and medium acidity during fermentation. The yeast total isolated from Borassus flabellifer L. juice was 5.06 x 105 CFU/mL and the isolate U2 was phenotypically identified as Candida tropicalis (95.7% ID and T = 1). The pH level of medium decreased during the ethanol fermentation. Yeast isolate U2 was able to produce ethanol by 140.1 g/L using 50 g/L of glucose and it was not significantly different with ethanol yield fermented by Saccharomyces cerevisiae (148.6 g/L).
