Abstract

Korean Wave, called Hallyu in Korean, is a pop-culture phenomenon from South Korea spread globally. In Indonesia, especially Surabaya, there are numerous K-Pop fans. A facility based on K-Pop experience center in Surabaya is needed to accomodate the fans appreciative activities also inform and present new experiences based on educative, interactive, and recreative values. Design Thinking method was used as design guideline with the steps of Define, Research, Ideate, Prototype, Selection, Implementation, and Learn. The interior design will be implemented along with experience-based program  using latest technologies to reach the goal of the design.

Abstract

The growth of the cosmetics industry in Indonesia nowdays was caused by the increasing lifestyle and public awareness, especially womens, that pays attention to their appearance and beautify themselves. Moreover, social media such as Facebook, Instagram and others are also some factors in this phenomenon. This issue brings up a new type of public figure who has the knowledge and skills in the beauty fields, both formal and self-taught educational backgrounds, known as the beauty vlogger. Surabaya Glam Squad (SbyGlamSquad) is a beauty vlogger community, and one of the beauty activist in Surabaya. Periodically, they often hold make-up or beauty class events and gatherings with fellow make-up lovers to build a sense of family and share the latest tips and information in the beauty industry, even though there is no special space for these activities. "The Beauty Playground" as the concept is a design solution that aims to create space designs that shows the characters of this community, supported with fun and aesthetic atmospheres from the details on the walls to the lightings, and to be able to accommodate the community activities. Especially, to increase the existance of the community not only through the social medias, exclusive community members and make-up lovers only, but also on the general public.

Abstract

The currently booming culinary business in Surabaya opens a very good opportunity to bring the East Javanese cuisine as a different variety. The purpose of this design is to provide a restaurant facility that can be used by the people to gather with their families, relatives, and colleagues and to create the interior of the culinary center that displays East Javanese ambiance which is represented by the city of Surabaya in this era of globalization. The method used in the design is Design Thinking Process. The concept of the design is “wani”, which is a word that represents the spirit and atmosphere of both the old and new City of Heroes, Surabaya. This interior design will bring a self-service system as the implementation of “wani” to plant a new habit and to grow self-awareness in the Surabaya society, both towards other people and their environment. In the end, the Interior Design of The East Javanese Culinary Center in Surabaya can be a facility to conserve the East Javanese culinary identity and also Surabaya as the city of heroes. Furthermore, the implemented self-service system is expected to bring back the behavior in the people of Surabaya, as well as a ‘tempo doeloe’ ambiance between the seller and the buyer.

Abstract

Library is one of the facilities to support educational and information needs. The existence of libraries is now becoming less attractive to the public, especially teenagers, apart from educational needs, this is because there are many emerging modern places for recreation that adjusts visitor’s desire especially in Surabaya. This situation causes people’s interest on reading becomes lower at Surabaya. The idea is to renew the rigid and formal library concept into a relaxing and fun library by combining library with café which is a favorite place for teenagers nowadays. The library-cafe that will be designed has the concept Creative Comfy Zone to accommodate literacy activities in it in a comfortable ambience. Memphis Style is a complement to this design to become different from existing libraries. This idea is expected to help increasing teenagers' reading interest.

Abstract

Re-functioning container to become module system commercial space started with an offer from Pondok Kasih Foundation Surabaya to design a container to become a working space. From that offer, it has a potential to become a business concept, and that is module system container for multipurpose space. The container is designed to facilitate small businesses, in this case the business is a tailor. It has an easy to fit concept and more oriented to the tailor. Because 90% of the room are used by the tailor, this easy to fit concept are used to make tailor activity more efficient and easy. Helped with few custom designed furniture to help tailor on their work. This module is designed to help new small business so they can have a better business opportunities, a space to start their business, and also contribute to reduce unused container.

Abstract

Coffee is the third most consumed beverage in the world. According to International Coffee Organization, Indonesian coffee ranks fourth best in the world because of its various and special taste. In past times, coffee is just a beverage to complete your activity, such as reading newspaper, late night activities, watching TV,etc. Nowadays, coffee becomes a trend and used in art. However, there aren’t enough facilities to embrace the creative coffee community, especially in Surabaya. The purpose of this interior design is to provide an interactive and educative  Coffee Community Center interior to increase the sales and potential of local coffee. The design method used is Design Thinking which consist of understanding, observe, point of view, prototype, test and implementation. The design result is a Noesantara Coffee Community Center designed with the concept of “addicted to Noesantara”, which means to attract the visitor so that they become addicted to the place and interested to come back. Using a layout with mixed circulation, where the coffee gallery is used as the center to direct the visitors to another room, such as coffee shop, coffee bath and spa, workshop area, coffee roaster and tasting room, etc to increase the potential of Indonesian local coffee.

Abstract

The disruptive era Indonesian has been facing nowadays has brought many changes and development which has impacted the economics and industrial fields. Indonesia's Government has came with a solution through creative economy council, which has responsiblity for 16 sub sectors, with fashion as the growing sector. In Surabaya, there is one UKM which succesfully evolve as an accessories artisans since 2012. As an owner, Riski Hapsari has vision and mission for teaching women as many as possible, especially housewives, so that they have an accessories crafting skill which has sell value. The obstacle which was facing right now is how could a single space accomodate artisan's activities in order to raise productivity, people's interest and society's appreciation with Human Centered Design approaching method which intergrate collaborative, educative, creative, collective and home based creative economy aspects. For that, training space is designed as a solution to the obstacle. This training space offers Sharing House concept, which includes room for training, learning, selling and communicating for the artisans and housewives in order to create a creative and positive activity which collaborate and mutual sharing as a big family. The main reason of the designing is to give a chance to housewives to developing a profitable skill, which make Koleksikikie is better known and create digital economy ecosystem in Surabaya. The implementation of this Sharing House concept creates an activity space which includes arctistic making space, collaboration space, beads gallery, brainstorming space, creative garden, photo studio, book corner, office, sirculation area/parking lot, security pos, beads store and supporting space.

Abstract

Education is an important factor in improving human resources. The lack of educational facilities for underprivileged children is one of the problems that always arise in big cities, especially in Surabaya. The Mawari Shelter Community is a form of social service for the GKI Pregolan church in Surabaya which provides free educational facilities for underprivileged children. For this reason, the purpose of the Mawari Creative Home Interior Design in Surabaya is for education, a place for social interaction, and a place to facilitate creative activities that can improve the economy in the community. This design uses the Design Thinking method, consisting of 6 stages, Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype, Test, Implement, and Materialize. The application concept of "Love", applying Christian values into space with a Green touch and the concept of open space that leads directly to the garden to understand God as the light and center of the world. Besides, cheerful ambiance and dynamic in accordance with the character of children also want to be presented. Thus, the existence of this design can provides a positive influence for children, also as a place for talents and interests, which is children can comfortably use the facilities of Creative Houses.

Abstract

Andy Rahman is an architect who was later known through his work process which tended to uphold and prioritize the elements of Nusantara. When viewed through the development of his work, there are significant differences in his latest work, Omah Boto, which totally works through the exploration of local potential and traditional elements and essences - which are often ignored and abandoned by most designers. This research was conducted to find out the application of the ancestral traditions applied by Andy Rahman and the study of the concept of Andy Rahman who tried to re-establish the tradition to make it appear more up-to-date, modern and contemporary in his work Omah Boto. Using descriptive qualitative methods, namely in-depth interviews with speakers, observations (through seminars and work critics at Omah Boto Open House), documentation of the location and atmosphere of Omah Boto's architectural interiors, as well as literature studies related to Interior and Archipelago Architecture. The results of this study will reveal the extent to which traditional essence applied is implemented in Andy Rahman's architectural interior works in his work Omah Boto.

Abstract

Surabaya City Public Library in Rungkut as a learning facility for the community needs to be supported by innovative interior space approach “Connected Learning” which is applied to 11-24 years old people to create creative and social educative learning based on visitor’s personal interests. This approach is used because its align with today focus about improving skills and literacy in using information. “Connecting People” concept was chosen to make the library design connects visitor, staff, and community with rooms that support “Connected Learning”, so the library is no longer just a place to read, but can be a place to develop interests creatively and socialy with the support of photography room, music room, computer and audio visual room, gallery, community space, maker space, and training space. This concept focused on 3 things, flexible, collaborative, and open space that is applied in open space library layout that connect the reading space and its supporting spaces. Thus, Surabaya City Public Library can be a flexible, collaborative, and supportive place for creative and social education based on young people’s personal interests.
