Abstract

Indonesia has a lot of biodiversity, especially its floral diversity, which habitat is native / endemic in Indonesia which are used as an identity emblem across various regions in Indonesia. However, some of Indonesia's endemic floral are currently endangered to extinction by the conversion of forests to human settlements. The city of Semarang is currently active to improve the tourism sector. One of them is a plan to build a rare plant conservation site. With the enthusiasm of the government, it is expected that people can participate in preserving Indonesian's endemic floral population. Therefore, it is necessary to have a platform that can invite people to take part in preserving floral in Indonesia as well as having a positive impact on botanists and researchers. For this reason, designer presents the Indonesian’s Endemic Floral Conservation Center in Ungaran, Central Java where there are values of conservation, education and recreation. Conservation value is applied to facilities for botanists and researchers for plant breeding. The education and recreation values are applied to facilities for public with the help of technology. Designer raised the concept of "Synergy" by applying an eco-interior approach that gives attention to the reciprocal relationship between humans and nature. The designer expect that with this concept, visitors can be educated by existing facilities and moved to preserve Indonesia's endemic floral.

Abstract

In 2017, Indonesia declaims its desire to be free from street children. But, the reality is that  until now this desire has not been realized. When on the streets, there are many risks that must be faced by children. Therefore the Save Street Child (SSC) appears. Save Street Child Surabaya (SSCS) is a driving community for observers of street and marginal children in Surabaya. This community aims to spread awareness and enthusiasm for sharing with street and marginal children. Now, SSCS does not haves a basecamp. Therefore, a facility is needed to supports the achievement of SSCS goals and supports the implementation of community activities through education and skills centre. This design elevates the concept of Edu-Fun with the theme of a city parks. The resulting space is in an the foam of an education center consisting of reading area, library, class and Islamic prayer room; skills center consisting of accessories, confections, batik areas, and painting areas; the area of interest in talent which consists of a table tennis area and areas of interest in singing and dancing and other complementary facilities. This design uses Robert Curedele's design thinking process and methods with the Human Center Design approach through the stages of observe, understand, ideate, prototype, test and implementation.

Abstract

The furniture design for a church by utilizing coffee wood waste is a design research that aims to equalize the use of woods in Indonesia today. This is caused by the increase in rarity of the types of woods that are often used in Indonesia. One of the alternative woods which can reduce the use of these rare woods are coffee woods. Coffee woods were chosen because of their large amount of availability in Indonesia whereas these woods are considered as wastes for the surrounding community especially when the plant is already at an unproductive state. Based on this issue, there are exceptional opportunities by using coffee wood to be designed into goods which has more values, especially when designed into furniture and interior elements, this is because coffee woods has the same characteristics with woods that are used for general furniture. In this design research, studies and researches about coffee woods are being conducted, which are all related to processing the raw material into finished goods, as well as constructions, strengths and weaknesses of the material, etc, which all of these has the purpose to increase the value and function of coffee woods. By doing this furniture design, it is expected that coffee wood waste can be recycled into more valuable goods, and also to equalize the use of other types of wood, so that the scarcity of other types of woods can be mitigated.

Abstract

Today's teenagers lifestyles often spend their time hanging out or doing assignments at cafes, especially in the city of Surabaya. From the results of a survey conducted by the author, 36,92% said learning / working in a café was ineffective, while 12,3% said it was dependent on the facilities and design provided. That is, half of the sample felt that learning / working in a café had several problems. From these problems, came the idea to design a place for senior high school students and college students devoted to study (Study Lounge) and addition of facilities for work (co-working space). Considering nowadays, not a few students that work while studying, at the same time it can be used for workers to be able to establish relationships with students. This design innovation applies multiple intelligences with the awareness that everyone has different styles of working / learning, so it is hoped that with the study lounge and co-working space it can accommodate all people to learn and work effectively. Because everyone has different learning styles and work, so they cannot be evenly distributed. The design method used is the stage of design thinking process according to Stanford D. School, that is empathize, define, ideate, prototype and test. The result of the design is a space that accommodates the needs of senior high school and college students in learning and doing assignments. This design is also an alternative solution for new learning places in Surabaya by adopting the concept of “Unity in Diversity” which accommodates the many needs of each different multiple intelligences.
