Abstract

Machining parameters in turning processes including cutting speed, depth of cut, feed rate, and the length of the cutting parameters affect the product quality. One of the required product quality is the level of surface roughness. Reseach used response surface experimental based on central composite design to develop the empirical method of relationship between cutting parameters and surface roughness. Furthermore, an optimization is also conducted by using desirability function approach to determine the combination of cutting parameters in order to have low surface roughness of product. The results show that the machining parameters (depth of cut, length of cutting, cutting speed) have significant impact to the surface roughness of product. Based on the results, the mathematical model: Y = 1.109 -0.068(X ) – 0.111(X 2 )-0.098(X 3 ) + 0.268 (X 1 ) 2 + 0.17 (X 2 ) 2 + 0.106 (X 3 ) 2 + 0.086X 1 X 2 - 0.073XKeywords: surface roughness, machining, depth of cut, cutting speed.

Abstract

Flooding phenomenon becomes a looses in countercurrent two-phase flow of air-liquid in vertical pipe. Water injector sattached in to the pipe prevents the looses occur. With the use of water injector, liquid will flow attached to the inside wall of the pipe, so the air will flow freely in the middle of the pipe. New design of water injectors in diffuser shape, will be studied to replace the old annular water injectors. 10 o , 15 o , and 20 o of water injector angle will be varied to find which ones can make slowing down flooding. This Research will seek water injectors with the most slowing down flooding, indicating by it superficial velocity, fluid flow, and flow patterns. Abetter Water injector is in whis have ability to handle higher flow rate and higher superficial velocity. The best water injectors in a row is a water injector with 10 o , 20 of angle.Keywords : two phase, counter current flow, flooding, water injector, flow pattern.

Abstract

Two-phase flow is widely used in daily life and industry, such as the installation of sludge pumps that drain liquid and solid or on the installation of air condition that drain freon fluid in the gas and liquid phase. However, in the two-phase flow also did not rule out the occurrence of barriers, barriers occur because of the crust, reduction and enlargement of the pipe. Besides that the twophase flow is also very useful as a coolant in the pipeline contained hot phase therein. In a Variation of ring barriers Dp/Dc = 1,Dp/Dc=1,06,Dp/Dc=1,125 and Dp/Dc=1,2, the fluid is streamed from the top passing through the water injector, while the air from the compressor is streamed from the down through the air injector. Water pressure ranging from 3-6 L/min and the air was varied ranging from 3-10 L/s. The test results obtained the flooding phenomenon that occurs because of the pressure difference in the pipe that causes fluid that move from the top through the injector can not go down but it back upwards because of the air pressure is greater than the water. In the ring barriers Dp/Dc = 1,Dp/Dc=1,06,Dp/Dc=1,125 and Dp/Dc=1,2, the fastest flooding phenomenon occurs on the ring barriers Dp/Dc=1,2 in water debit 6 L/min, air 6 L/s, this is because the bigger barriers make the occurrence of the phenomenon of flooding be faster, flooding phenomenon is also due to pressure differences in the test tube, the bigger debit of air and water make the flooding phenomenon be faster.Keywords: The phenomenon of flooding, air and water discharge, pressure differences

Abstract

Briquette is one of alternative energy. Raw material briquettes can be derived from agricultural waste and forestry plantations. Many factors that influence on briquette such as the type of materials, adhesives and pressure others. Adhesives used are sago starch waste that has been disposed and can no longer be consumed by humans. Raw material briquettes from waste of sawdust and sawn eucalyptus leaves. Pressure briquette of 30 PSI. Both raw material briquettes sieved with 20 mesh sieve qualify. From the results, the average calorific value of briquettes is the highest of 4896.16 calories / gram at 40% mixture of sawdust sawn 60% powder mixed with eucalyptus leaves. Percentage of ash content lowest average was 2.17%.Keywords : Briquette, adhesive, sawdust, eucalyptus.

Abstract

The most of renewable energy in Indonesia is hydro which all potential is for about 75000- 76000 MW. But the use of that potential is 3,783 MW of large-scale and 220 MW of small-scale only. The use of small-scale hydro energy is river flows which has speed with ranges 0.01 - 2.8 m/s and used for a source of electrical energy by kinetic turbines. Kinetic turbine is one of water turbines but it uses speed of river flows for changing the water’s kinetic energy into mechanic one. The performances of the kinetic turbines depends on many factors and one of them is the using of blades on the runner. Turbine with a cup blade, river flows mashes the blade and changes momentum that can provide the runner rotating. On that process, there is energy change, here is kinetic energy of river flows into mechanical one and produces electricity energy by a generator. So the purpose of this study is to determine the effect of kinetic turbine performance with a cup blade input corner variations. The results of this study indicates that the kinetic turbine with a cup blade input corner 10 o is the highest or maximum performance than 15 o and 20 o , because the cup blade input corner 10 o has much mass flows mashing and striking the blade and the kinetic turbine with cup blade input corner 20 o is the minimum performance.Keywords: Kinetic turbine, Turbine performance, bowl blade, input corner.

Abstract

One type of multi-phase flow is the flow of gas-liquid two-phase. Two-phase flow is widely used in daily life and industry. One type of two-phase flow is air-liquid two-phase flow in opposite directions vertically. In the two phase flow of air-liquid in the pipe flooding, phenomenon in the opposite direction is a loss, so it should be avoided or restricted. To overcome this problem then we make the air injector to get the air superficial velocity corresponding. The design of injector that with shaped nozzle has varies diameter out. They are 4 mm, 6 mm and 8 mm. These varies diameter out of nozzle will be examined to find which one of the diameter out nozzle that can slow the flooding that can be seen in the most of the parameters such as superficial velocity, air flow and flow patterns. The results of these research showed that the varies d-out that has the ability to handle debit and best superficial velocity in a row is shaped air injector nozzle with diameter out of 8 mm, 6 mm, 4 mm. The greater the air flow and air superficial velocity the faster flooding occurs. Flow pattern before the onset of flooding is annular flow pattern. Flow pattern at the beginning of the flooding was wispy annular. And flow pattern at the time of the total flooding is churn flow pattern.Keywords : two phase, counter current flow, flooding, air injector, flow regime.

Abstract

Utilization of composite materials at this moment is growing, along with increasing use of these materials in widespread ranging from a simple household appliances to the industrial sector. The purpose of this study is to determine the mechanical properties and water absorption of continuous fiber composites sago pith waste, on a percentage variation in respectivevolume fraction 10%, 30%, and 50%. The fiber is treated by immersion treatment with 5% NaOH alkaline 2 hours and 2% solution of silane for 30, 60, and 90 minutes. Mechanical properties of the composite test results that at 47.37 MPa tensile strength and bending strength of 72.27 MPa with a percentage of the volume fraction (50%), under fiber soaking time (30 minutes) are in the same value. The smaller the value of water uptake, it is contained in immersion treatment of sago pith waste continuous fibers with a percentage of 50% and the volume fraction of fiber soaking time 90 minutes.Keywords: Composites, mechanical properties, water absorption, sago pith waste, volume fraction

Abstract

Indonesia has a great potential to develop hydropower, because Indonesia's mountainous topography and hilly and is drained by numerous rivers (large and small), and in certain areas t here are lakes or reservoirs and the potential of water as an energy source. Hydroelectric Power Plant (PLTA) is a technology that has been proven to not harm the environment, support the diversification of energy as renewable energy, support the use of fuel reduction program, and most of the construction using local materials. Kinetic Turbine is one of the options in utilizing the potential of the kinetic energy in the form of velocity, kinetic studies using vertical shaft turbine, blade-shaped bowl that can withstand the flow in order to increase the tangential force generated. Amount of kinetic turbine blades is one of the variables that affect the rotation and tangential style of a turbine, so the effect on the value of the power and efficiency of a kinetic turbine. The results showed the influence of the number of blades on the power and efficiency of blade number 5, 7, 9 and 11,where the number of blades 11 have a greater influence than the number of blade 5, 7 and 9.Keywords: Water turbine, number of blades, performance

Abstract

Chemical modification on fiber by using Natrium Hydroxide (NaOH) solution directly affect to the fiber structure such as changing the chemical composition of the fiber and improve the performance of natural fiber as the composite reinforcement. The purpose of this study is to inverstigate the effects of NaOH solution to the tensile strength and the mofology of Mendong fiber. The concentration of NaOH solution were 2,5% v/v; 5% v/v; dan 7,5% v/v on this experiment. Mendong fiber was soaked for 2, 4 and 6 hours in NaOH solution. The temperature on this study was 26 o C. The tensile strength of Mendong fiber was increased by increasing the NaOH solution concentration and duration of soaking after exceed the concentration of NaOH solution and duration of soaking the tensile strength would be decreased. The highest tensile strength was 497,34 MPa with NaOH solution concentration 5% v/v and the duration of soaking, 2 hours. The roughness of Mendong fiber by soaking in NaOH solution was higher than without soaking in NaOH solution. Soaking on the highest concentration of NaOH solution caused the highest roughness.Keywords: NaOH solution, Mendong fiber, tensile strength, roughness.

Abstract

Filler composite material with natural fibers is ranging widely known in the manufacturing industry. Environmentally friendly material, able to be recycled, as well as able to destroy it self by nature is a technological demands of today. Coco fiber and pith of sago pulp fiber are natural fibers that derived from the processing of waste coconut and sago palms are abundant in the Moluccas and they have not been used optimally. Both of these materials can be used for the manufacture of composite, using polyester resin as the matrix. The research emphasis to get the maximum value of variation of fiber volume fraction and fiber coir pith of sago waste to the value of bending strength and impact strength, according to the desired application. Research methods Lay Hands Up in the manufacture of hybrid fiber composites with a combination of coconut fiber (SSK): sago pith pulp fibers (SES) with a variation of 10% SSK: SES40%, 20% SSK: SES30%, 30% SSK: SES20%, 40% SSK: SES10%. Dependent variable in the study is the bending strength and impact strength. The result is that an increase in bending strength and impact strength with increasing volume fraction, which is higher than the hybrid fiber coir fiber and coconut fiber pith of sago waste. The highest bending strength of the fiber volume fraction of 30%SSK: SES20%, amounting to 97 354 MPa, and the lowest bending force on the fiber volume fraction of 10% SSK: SES40% of 73 701 MPa, while the highest value of impact strength at SSK fiber volume fraction of 40% :SES10%, at 0178 J/mm², and the lowest value of the impact strength on the fiber volume fraction of 10% SSK : SES40% at 0.053 J/mm².Keywords: Mechanical Properties, composites hybrid, polyester, coconut coir fiber, fiber pulp sago pith.
