Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between body weight of does with litter size, birth weight and mortality in New Zealand White (NZW) rabbits. The research was conducted at the Central Breeding and Raising Non Ruminant Livestock unit Balekambang, Surakarta, Central Java. The material used in this study was 35 does that had sexual maturity and have given birth at least once aged maximum 3 years old. In addition, the study also used 7 bucks aged approximately 2 years. Data were analysed using simple linear regression analysis. The study found that the weight of the does had a very weak correlation value to litter size, birth weight and mortality of young rabbits. Keywords: Rabbits, New Zealand White, body weight, litter size

Abstract

Duck was one of animal protein resources which still has a low hatchability rate. There were Staphylococcus aureus and Salmonella sp.bacteria on hatch egg that can influence mortality of embryos. The objective of the research was to investigate the potential of Muntingia calabura leaf extract as natural antibacteria on the hatchability and embryos mortality of duck’s egg. The research method was field experiment by completely randomized design with five treatments and four replications: P0 (without treatment), A0 (chemical antibacteria), P1(10% of Muntingia calabura leaf extract), P2 (20% of Muntingia calabura leaf extract) and P3 (30% of Muntingia calabura leaf extract). These research used four hundred eggs and semi automatical machine for 28 days. Data were analyzed using one–way Anova. The results showed that Muntingia calabura leaf extract has a very significant effect (P<0,01) on hatchability and embryos mortality. The best treatment was found on 20% of Muntingiacalabura leaf extract which increased 12,01% ofhatchability and decreased 43,42% of mortality rate. Keywords: Muntingia calabura, antibacteria, hatchability, embryos mortality

Abstract

This qualitative research was conducted in PT. Jaguar Farm from 18 May to 28 June 2016. Sample was purposively selected using snowball sampling method followed by in-depth interviews. Data was analysed using descriptive analysis. The results showed that Standard Operating Company of  PT. Jaguar Farm was not too difficult and can be understood by all farmers. But the system seemed to be still one-sided contract which was determined only by the company, while farmers did not have a bargaining position to adjust the contract awarded. The patron-client system run by PT. Jaguar Farm was relatively new so that the clients who joined the company’s business were mostly small farmers, in the sense that they still required assistance in the form of capital, extension and marketing. Another finding showed however that the client had a problem in the delay time of harvesting process. Therefore, the study concluded that PT. Jaguar Farm as the core in the patron-client business was able to show good enough performance, but there were some drawbacks that possibly could harm farmers. Keywords: Partnership, contract farming, breeding farm, empowerment

Abstract

The purposes of this research were to determine the effect of addition of Azotobacter bacterial culture into media of goat faeces on medium quality and earthworm productivity; and also to examine the best dose of Azotobacter bacterial cultures addition. The research material was 800 g earthworm aged 3 months old. The research method was experimental with Completely Randomized Design using 4 treatments and 4 replications. The results show that addition of Azotobacter bacterial culture had a significant effect (P<0.01) on the medium quality and earthworm productivity (coccoon production, the number of juvenils per coccoon, coccoon hatching percentage, the numbers and weight of earthworm). The bacterial culture addition of 350 cc/100 kg goat faeces was found the best. We suggest to follow the study with observation about the effect of the length of fermentation to the medium quality and earthworm productivity. Keywords: Azotobacter, goat faeces, earthworm

Abstract

The research was conducted to find the protein level that gives the best results on the production performances of native chickens (crossed of Bangkok and Kedu chicken) on feed consumption, water consumption, body weight gain, and FCR and protein digestibility. This research constisted two steps. Firstly, the study found the best production performances using 100 chicks (DOC) with average body weight of 36.98 ±5.50 g/chick without differentitating their sex. Secondly, using 60 months old cocks, the study invetigated the best treatment wich has a good protein digestibility. The study used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with five treatments namely P0=control feed (using factory feed), P1=20% of protein feed, P2=19% of protein feed, P3=18% of protein feed, and P4=17 % of protein feed. Each treatment had 5 replications. If there was found significant differences among the results, the statistical test was continued by test of Least Significant Difference (LSD). The results showed that the use of different protein levels in feed did not give significant differences (P>0.05) on feed consumption, water consumption, body weight gain, and FCR. The treatment that used 19% of protein had the best value on weight gain. On the contrary, the results showed that decreasing levels of protein level on feed treatment had a highly significant effect (P<0.01) on protein digestibility. The study suggests that 19% of protein can increase the weight of native chicken and has a good protein digestibility. Keywords: native chicken, feed, protein, digestibility, production

Abstract

This research aimed to determine the effect of the level of zeolites as slow release nitrogen in pure glucose on microbial protein synthesis and cellulolytic activity. The material used were zeolite of clinoptilolite type with size 40-60 mesh, urea, pure glucose, cow's rumen fluid from RPH Ungaran. The research used completely randomized design (CRD) with 5 treatments and 4 replications. The treatments were T1, T2, T3, T4 and T5 = pure glucose + additional level 2%, 4%, 6%, 8% and 10% of zeolite slow release respectively. Variables observed were microbial protein synthesis and cellulolytic activity. The results showed that the treatment significantly (P<0.05) increased microbial protein synthesis and cellulolytic activity. Results of protein synthesis from higher to lower number were T2 (59.50 mg/ml), T3 (55.58 mg/ml), T4 (47.55 mg/ml), T5 (42.82 mg/ml) and T1 (31.68 mg/ml) respectively. Results of cellulolytic activity from higher to lower number were T5 (3.55 mol ml-1 min-1), T4 (2.36 mol ml-1 min-1), T2 (2.23 mol ml-1 min-1), T3 (2.16 mol ml-1 min-1) and T1 (2.09 mol ml-1 min-1) respectively. The results of microbial protein synthesis and cellulolytic activity at each treatment were in normal level. Abstract

The study aimed to investigate the effect of protein level in the complete feed based on fermented banana pseudostem(CFFBP) on in vitro digestibility. The experiment was conducted from May to August 2016. CFFBP was made at the field laboratory of Tribhuwana Tunggadewi University, Malang. Proximate and in vitro digestibility analysis was carried out at the Animal Nutrition Laboratory, the Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Brawijaya University. The experiment used Completely Randomized Design with 3 treatments and 5 replications. The treatments were P1CFFBP at protein level 12%; P2CFFBP at protein level 14%; P3CFFBP at protein level 16%. The results showed that digestibility of dry matter (DMD), digestibility of organic matter (OMD) and Total Digestible Nutrient (TDN) were significantly affected by the treatments (P<0.01). The highest digestibility of DMD, of OMD and TDN was found at CFFBP with protein level 14%. The DMD value were P171.56%, P2 75.06% and P3 74.32%. The OMD value were P165.53%, P2 68.50% and P3 69,82%. The TDN value were P161.84%, P2 66.07% and P3 64.91%. The experiment concluded that the increasing level of protein in the CFFBP could increase DMD, OMD and TDN, and it was related to the availability of protein and energy ratio. Abstract

The study aims to utilizing mollases as reducing sugar to bind ammonia from urea through maillard reaction in high temperature as a source of Non-protein nitrogen (NPN) slow release in order to improve the efficiency of NPN and of the avaibility of total protein. The study used mollases and cow rumen fluid from Ungaran slaughterhouses. The method of the study was factorial complate random design with 2x3 treatments and 3 replications. The treatments were A0B1 (mollases-urea non heated 1 hour incubation), A0B2 (mollases-urea non heated 3 hour incubation), A0B3 (mollases-urea non heated 5 hour incubation), A1B1 (mollases-urea heated 1 hour incubation), A1B2 (mollases-urea heated 3 hour incubation) and A1B3 (mollases-urea heated 5 hour incubation). The data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA). The results showed that NH3, Volatile Fatty Acids (VFA) and total protein production in different hours of incubation were significant (P<0,05), meanwhile production in mollases heat treatment and interaction between them were not significant (P>0,05). The longer the time of incubation, the lower the production. The highest NH3production was found at one hour of time of incubation. The VFA and total protein productions increased along with the increasing time of incubation with highest production was found at 5 hours of time of incubation. Keywords : Slow release, maillard reaction, NH3, VFA, protein total

Abstract

The research aimed to evaluate the effect of different quality of diet on yolk relative weight and leukocytes profile of post-hatch Kedu chicks. The research used 105 birds of day-old Kedu chicks, which were devided into T0 = fasted for three days post-hatch continued feed farmer ration; T1 = farmer’s ration; T2 = improved rations. Improved ration contains higher protein and energy than the farmer’s ration. Completely randomized design (CRD) with split in time was assigned to the present study. The main plot was age of chicks and the subplot was dietary treatment. Parameters measured were yolk relative weight, leukocyte and differential leukocyte profiles. The results showed that there was no significant effect on either interaction (P>0.05) between age and dietary nutriens quality or the main plot on yolk relative weight, leukocytes and differential leukocyte profiles in Kedu chicks 6 days post-hatch. However, yolk relative weight was affected significantly by the sublot, and other parameters were the same. Conclusion of the research was that the yolk relative weight, leukocyte and differential leukocyte profiles remained stable in 6 days post-hatch Kedu chicks despite being given ration with the different nutrients quality, including fasted-group’s chicks three days after hatch. Keywords: post-hatch Kedu chicks, egg yolks, leukocyte profiles, improved ration
