Abstract

Pemahaman Konseptual Matematis (PKM)  memiliki peran penting karena dengan kemampuan ini siswa mudah dalam membangun hubungan untuk memahamai ide dan konsep baru. Kemampuan PKM ini dapat ditumbuh-kembangkan melalui pembelajaran di kelas. Untuk mencapai kecakapan tersebut, pembelajaran perlu memperhatikan keberagaman siswa karena pembelajaran yang mengakomodasi keberagaman menjadi lebih efektif, efesien, dan menarik. Keberagam tersebut dapat berupa Gender (G), Kemampuan Awal Matematika (KAM) dan Gaya Belajar Matematis (GBM) siswa. Salah satu pendekatan pembelajaran yang mengakomodir keberagaman ialah pembelajaran pendekatan Rigorous Mathematical Thinking (RMT). Artikel ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji kemampuan PKM siswa SMP yang memperoleh pembelajaran pendekatan RMT ditinjau dari : a). Gender, b). KAM siswa, dan c). GBM siswa. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimen pada siswa SMP di salah satu sekolah di Bandung. Salah satu hasil yang penting adalah dengan pembelajaran ini menjadikan siswa dengan KAM sedang dan rendah dapat mencapai kemampuan yang baik. The Effect of Rigorous Mathematical Thinking (RMT) Learning Approach On Students’ Understanding of Mathematical Concepts AbstractAn understanding of mathematical concepts (PKM) has an important role because with this ability students are easy in building relationships to understand new ideas and concepts. The ability of PKM can be grown-developed through learning in the classroom. To achieve these skills, learning needs to pay attention to the diversity of students because learning that accommodates diversity becomes more effective, efficient, and engaging. Such diversity can be Gender (G), An initial mathematical ability (KAM) and students’ mathematics learning styles (GBM). One approach to learning that accommodates diversity is the Rigorous Mathematical Thinking (RMT) learning approach. This article aims to examine the ability of junior high school students who have learned RMT approach in terms of: a). Gender, b). students’ KAM, and c). students’ GBM. This research is an experimental research on junior high school students in one school in Bandung. One important result is that this learning engages students with medium and low of KAM able to achieve good abilities.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui peran konteks gelas dalam mendukung pembelajaran konsep keliling lingkaran dan mengetahui respon peserta didik terhadap pembelajaran matematika menggunakan pendekatan Realistic Mathematics Education (RME). Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di Sekolah Menengah Pertama (SMP) Surya Bangsa, Tangerang. Subjek penelitian ini adalah peserta didik kelas VIII.A Tahun Ajaran 2015/2016 semester II dengan jumlah peserta didik sebanyak 13 orang. Instrumen penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini terdiri atas Lembar Aktivitas Peserta Didik (LAPD), Soal Evaluasi, Lembar Observasi Guru, Panduan Wawancara dan Angket Respon Peserta Didik. Teknik pengumpulan data pada penelitian ini meliputi rekaman video, pengisian dokumen penelitian, observasi dan wawancara. Analisis data dilakukan menggunakan model Miles Huberman (1994) yang terdiri atas reduksi data, penyajian data, penyimpulan dan verifikasi. Pembelajaran dalam penelitian ini menggunakan konteks gelas berdasarkan karakteristik pendekatan RME. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa konteks gelas berperan penting dalam mendukung pembelajaran konsep keliling lingkaran. Selain itu, peserta didik memiliki respon yang positif terhadap pembelajaran matematika yang diberikan menggunakan pendekatan RME. Learning Circumference using the Context of Glass AbstractThis research aims to find out the role of glass as a context in supporting the concepts of the circumference of the circle and to know the response of learners in learning mathematics using Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach. This research conducted at Surya Bangsa Junior High School, Tangerang. The subjects of this study are students of class VIII.A in the academic year 2015/2016 semester II with the number of learners as many as 13 people. The research instruments used in this study consist of Student Activity Sheet (SAS), Evaluation Test, Observation Sheet, Interview Guide, and Questionnaire. Data collection techniques in this study include video recording, completion of research documents, observation, and interviews. Data analysis technique using Miles Huberman (1994) model consisting of reduction data, presenting data, conclusion and verification. The learning in this study uses the context of glass based on the characteristics of the RME approach. The results of this study indicate that the context of glass plays a significant role in supporting learning the concept of the circumference of the circle. Also, learners have a positive response in learning mathematics provided using the RME approach.

Abstract

The study was to describe the implementation of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) toward the improvement of students’ Higher Order Thinking Skill (HOTS) and characters and to describe the obstacles that had been encountered within the implementation. The study was a mixed research that made use of concurrent mixed method design. The population in the study was the students from eight junior high schools that had been selected from six provinces in Indonesia namely the Yogyakarta Special Region, Bengkulu, South Borneo, West Nusa Tenggara, Southeast Sulawesi and Papua. There were 648 students who had been selected randomly from these schools. The researchers conducted the PBL process within the experimental classes and the expository learning process within the eight control classes. The data gathering process was conducted through the test, the self-assessment and the open questionnaire. The quantitative data analysis was conducted inferentially using multivariate and univariate analysis, while the qualitative data analysis was conducted descriptively. The results of the study showed that: (1) the implementation of PBL had been more effective in comparison to the expository one in terms improving the students’ HOTS; (2) the implementation of PBL had not been more effective in comparison to the expository one in terms of improving the students’ characters; and (3) in overall the obstacles that had been encountered within the implementation of PBL process were related to the teachers’ unpreparedness, the time allocation, the unequal students’ input, the students’ learning habits and the difficult assessment.

Abstract

This research aims at knowing the factors, involving both students and school levels, related to the math learning achievement for students in Indonesia, Japan, and Algeria by using PISA 2015 data. The sample in this study consists of students from three countries that took part in PISA 2015. The three countries chosen are Indonesia, Japan, and Algeria, each respectively having as participants 5.800, 6.411, and 4.460. the findings showed that the sense of belonging of students towards mathematics, the socio-economic status of their families, and the average of school’s social-economic status can predict significantly the students’ math learning achievement for the Indonesia and Japan, while for the Algerian students the socio-economic status is statistically insignificant in predicting their math learning achievement. The outcome of this analysis support the idea that the school attended plays a big role as far as mathematics learning achievement is concerned. To conclude, it should be summed up that the affective characteristics (sense of belonging of students), family background (students’ socio-economic status), and the variable school-level (average socio-economic status of schools) can be among students as far as mathematics learning achievement is concerned.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mendeskripsikan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematika mahasiswa tahun pertama dalam memecahkan masalah geometri konteks budaya. Jenis penelitian adalah penelitian kualitatif eksploratif. Subjek penelitian adalah mahasiswa tahun pertama Jurusan Pendidikan Matematika Universitas Nusa Cendana yang terdiri dari tiga subjek (kemampuan tinggi, sedang dan rendah). Instrumen utama dalam penelitian ini adalah peneliti sendiri dan dibantu dengan soal tes pemecahan masalah konteks budaya serta pedoman wawancara. Data penelitian dianalisis secara kualitatif berdasarkan indikator kemampuan pemecahan masalah serta divalidasi menggunakan triangulasi waktu. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan subjek berkemampuan rendah memiliki kemampuan pemecahan masalah dalam kategori cukup. Subjek memiliki keterbatasan dalam pemahaman dan penggunaan aturan matematika dalam pemecahan masalah konteks budaya. Subjek berkemampuan sedang cenderung memiliki ketegori kemampuan pemecahan masalah bergantung pada konteks masalah. Subjek masih belum konsisten terkait kemampuannya dalam pemecahan masalah matematika. Subjek berkemampuan tinggi memiliki kemampuan pemecahan masalah dalam kategori baik. Subjek memiliki performa matematika yang baik yang ditandai dengan pemahaman masalah yang baik, perencanaan, implementasi dan solusi yang akurat sesuai konteks masalah.  AbstractThe purpose of this research is to describe the ability of mathematical problem solving of First-Year University students in solving geometry problems of cultural context. This research is qualitative-explorative. The subjects are from the First-Year University student of Mathematics Education Department at Nusa Cendana University who consists of three subjects (high, medium, and low ability). The main instrument in this research is researcher himself and equipped by instruments of problem-solving question and interview guides. Data were analyzed qualitatively based on indicators of problem-solving abilities and validated using time triangulation. The results showed the low ability subject had the problem-solving ability in the medium category. Subjects had limited in understanding and use of the rules of mathematics in solving cultural context problems. The medium ability subject had problem-solving ability depend on the context of the problem. The subject still not consistently related to its ability in solving mathematical problems. The high ability subject had the problem-solving ability in the good category. The subject had good mathematics performance that is characterized by a good understanding of the problem, planning, implementation and accurate solutions to context problems.

Abstract

Students of Mathematics education often struggle with integration problem, but yet the root of the problem related to critical thinking is rarely investigated. This article reports research where the first-year students of Mathematics Education of PGRI University Semarang were given an integral problem, then individually they were interviewed related to the answer they have made. The findings of students' difficulties in working on integration problem were confirmed through several questions in the interview which aimed to uncover their critical thinking process related to concepts, procedures, and problem solving. This study shows that student difficulties in Integration by disc method such as failure in identifying radius of a rotary object, specify partition, and integration bounds are closely related to their failure to think critically related to concept, skills, and problem solving aspects of critical thinking.

Abstract

Penelitian bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan implementasi, faktor pendukung dan penghambat penerapan pendidikan karakter dalam pembelajaran matematika SMP di Kota Yogyakarta. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian evaluasi model discrepancy model dengan pendekatan kuantitatif dan kualitatif. Penelitian melibatkan sampel sebanyak 22 SMP untuk pengumpulan data kuantitatif dan 6 SMP untuk pengumpulan data kualitatif. Hasil evaluasi dapat disimpulkan bahwa implementasi pendidikan karakter dalam pembelajaran matematika SMP di Kota Yogyakarta termasuk dalam kategori cukup. Adapun faktor pendukung adalah (1) visi dan misi sekolah; (2) adanya peraturan dan tata tertib yang telah diatur sekolah, (3) dukungan dan kerjasama yang baik antar warga sekolah; (4) kondisi siswa yang memiliki dasar karakter baik; (5) contoh perilaku positif guru sebagai teladan. Sedangkan faktor penghambat adalah (1) guru belum memiliki pemahaman yang memadai tentang konsep pendidikan karakter dalam pembelajaran matematika; (2) guru mengalami kesulitan dalam mengidentifikasi nilai karakter dari kompetensi dasar pada mata pelajaran matematika; (3) guru belum dapat mengimplementasikan pendidikan karakter yang terintegrasi dalam pembelajaran matematika dengan baik; (4) sarana dan prasarana yang belum lengkap; (5) dokumentasi penilaian sikap siswa masih lemah. Character Education Implementation in Mathematics Teaching and Learning of Junior High School in Yogyakarta AbstractThe aim of this research was to describe the implementation, supporting factors and obstacles the implementation of character education in mathematics teaching and learning of junior high school in Yogyakarta. This research is an evaluation research discrepancy model with the quantitative and qualitative approach. The study involved 22 samples of SMP for quantitative data collection and 6 SMP for qualitative data collection. The results from this study revealed that character education implementation in mathematics teaching and learning of junior high schools in Yogyakarta was good. Supporting factors were: (1) the vision and mission of the school; (2) ground rules that have been designed by the schools; (3) support and cooperation among school members; (4) student’s condition who have a basic good character; and (5) examples of positive behavior of teachers as role models. Obstacles were: (1) teachers do not have enough understanding of character education especially in the implementation in mathematics teaching and learning processes; (2) teachers have difficulties to identify the character values from the basic competence of mathematics; (3) teachers have not been able to implement character education integrated to mathematics teaching and learning processes properly; (4) poor teaching and learning facilities in some schools; and (5) poor documentation of students’ character assessment.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui: (1) manakah kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa yang lebih baik antara model pembelajaran problem solving (PS) dan model pembelajaran langsung. (2) manakah kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa yang lebih baik antara kelompok laki-laki dan perempuan. (3) pengaruh model  pembelajaran PS terhadap kemampuan komuniksi matematis.  Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian eksperimental semu. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri 02 Mojolaban Sukoharjo. Pengambilan sampel dilakukan dengan teknik cluster random sampling. Instrumen untuk mengumpulkan data adalah tes kemampuan komunikasi matematis. Pengujian hipotesis pada penelitian ini menggunakan analisis anova dua jalan dengan sel tak sama. Berdasarkan hasil analisis jawaban siswa diperoleh bahwa: (1) kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa lebih baik jika diberikan model pembelajaran PS dibandingkan model pembelajaran langsung (2) tidak terdapat perbedaan kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa antara siswa laki-laki dan perempuan. (3) model pembelajaran PS berpengaruh terhadap kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa.
