Abstract

This research is based on a needs analysis of interview result to the fifth-grade elementary school teachers in Kalasan District, Sleman Regency, Yogyakarta Special Region who stated that educational game media was needed to enrich the variety of instructional media and improve students' critical thinking skills. The purpose of this research and development is to produce an appropriate and effective educational game. This product development relies on Borg Gall model which includes ten steps: information gathering, planning, initial product development, limited field trials, product revisions, expanded field trials, product revisions, operational field trials, final product revisions, and dissemination and implementation. Product trials were conducted at SD Negeri Sorogenen 2, SD Negeri Tamanan 1, and SD Negeri Tunjungsari 2 in Kalasan District, Sleman Regency, Yogyakarta Special Region. Practicality test was carried out by implementing questionnaires concerning teachers’ and students’ response after the learning process. Effectiveness test during the field trials was conducted using pretest-posttest questions. The results showed that the developed educational game was suitable for use according to media experts with a score of 85.71 or in ‘Very Good’ category and material experts with a score of 67.50 or in the good category. Based on statistical tests, the educational game was proven to be effective in improving students’ critical thinking skills during the learning process.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the effectiveness of the Assessment for Learning (AfL) in improving the quality of learning and mathematics learning outcomes in elementary schools. This study used a quasi-experimental method with a non-equivalent control group design. The instrument used was a test instrument with good validity, reliability, difficulty level, and different power. The non-test instrument was valid and good. Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics, mean difference test, and variance difference test on AfL learning outcomes. The results showed that the effectiveness of learning in implementing AfL could be influenced by assessment preparation, student involvement, and follow-up assessment. The quantitative analysis results show that AfL can improve student learning outcomes; there is no mean-variance in AfL learning outcomes; There are differences in learning outcomes, and there are no variants in learning with AfL and conventional assessments. Suggestions, it is necessary to plan the assessment process, diagnose student needs and abilities. Moreover, there is a need for follow-up and feedback to see achievements.

Abstract

Moderate intellectual disability requires a specific behavioral approach of learning Activity of Daily Living (ADL). This study aims to develop an appropriate and effective ADL module for moderate category intellectual disabilities in a special program instruction based on behavioral approaches. This research is a Research and Development (RD) using the Dick and Carey development model. The Dick and Carey development model consists of 10 steps of development, namely identifying needs in setting goals, analyzing learning, analyzing learners and context, developing learning objectives, developing assessment instruments, developing learning strategies, developing and selecting learning materials, designing and implementing formative evaluations, improving learning, designing and conducting the summative assessment. The module was implemented in the Special School of PGRI Sentolo and the Special School of Ma'arif Bantul through individual trials involving one subject, a small group trial involving six subjects, and a field test involving 15 subjects. Data collection was carried out using interviews, observations, questionnaires, and performance tests. The results of the study are that the ADL module is feasible and effective to use. The module was designed according to a behavioral approach, including the objectives were arranged from simple to complex, the presentation of the material was based on task analysis, verbal positive reinforcement was presented by the flap lift, and rewards are provided as star stickers available in the module.
