Abstract

An experiment has been conducted to study the effect of diets with different level of protein on the production performance of offspring (F1) crossbred between arab and kampung chicken. Fifty four crossbreed hens of 20 weeks of age were used in the experiment. The hens were divided into 3 feeding groups, each 6 x 3 heads. Treatment diets were formulated in three different levels of protein: 15, 17 and 19 %. The diets which an average energy content of 2850 kcal/kg were offered for 8 weeks. Variable observed included: feed intake, hen day egg production, FCR, egg weight and color index of yellow egg. The data were statistically analyzed by variance analysis in completely block design with 3 treatments and 6 replicates. The results indicated the protein level had significant effect on all variables. Diet with 19 % crude protein gave the best performance.

Abstract

The objectives of the study were to identify potency for development and possibilities for empowerment of small scale livestock product processing industries located in Bogor regency. A field survey has been conducted to collect information and data from some small scale industries which process different animal products of meat, milk, skin, bone, feather and slaughter house. Data collected included: human resources, capital, technology adapted, organization, product, marketing, government support, raw materials and market competitor. Data was analyzed by using the methods of AHP (Analytical Hierarchy Process) and Fuzzy NN – MCDM (Non Numeric Multi Criteria Decision Making). The results found that the most potency for development of small scale industry for animal product processing were the industries processing meat and milk. The most important aspect needed for empowerment was marketing.

Abstract

The aims of the present research were to study the effectiveness of fermented buffalo milk (dadih) to control cancer diseases by mice. The research was initiated by preparing dadih fermented with Lactococcus lactis mutant (Dadih SML). The dadih SML product was firstly tested for their toxic potent by using shrimp juvenile (prawn larva of Arthemia Leach Salina) according to method of Brine Shrimp to define the activity of anticarcinogenic potent of dadih. Dadih SML assesses LC50 of 357.7252 g/ml. It means that dadih SML could pursue cancer. Dadih SML was then tested to 18 female mice (Mus musculus) which have been treated with carcinogenic compound of benzoepiren. Dadih SML was offered to mice in three doses: 70 mg/20 BB g, 126 mg/20 BB g and 210 mg/20 BB g. As positive control was used nisin in two doses: 14.4 mg/20 BB g and 4.2 mg/20 BB g and negative control was distilled water by 0.4 ml/20 BB g. The animals were induced for 10 days by benzoepiren 0.3 mg/20 BB g, and followed for 15 days by tested compound. The results showed that dadih SML with doses of 210 mg/20 BB g could effectively encounter cancer bump volume 72,513 % where heavy change of body and also result of autopsy show normally.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to study the effect of substitution of sticky rice flour with sago flour on the quality of milk sweet pastry. As treatments, the sticky rice flour was substituted with 5 levels of sago flour: 0, 25, 50, 75 and 100 %. Each treatment consisted of 3 replicates. Parameter measured included: moisture content, consistency and organolptic characters. Data were statistically analyzed by variance analysis in randomized block design (RBD) and followed with Duncan’s Multiple Range test. The results showed that the use of sago flour in different levels gave highly significant effect (P<0.01) on moisture content, consistency and texture of pastry. Subtitution of sticky rice flour by 50 % of sago flour produced the best quality of pastry.

Abstract

A rapid survey was carried out to study the quality of corn produced by farmers in relation to post harvest practices in West Pasaman district. Twenty-six corn farmers, which were located in two sub districts of Kinali and Luhak Nan Duo, were selected and interviewed. Data and information collected including: farm size, farming and post harvest practices, quality of product and marketing. During the survey, samples of corn were collected and then analyzed for moisture, protein and crude fiber content, the rate of corn contaminated by fungi and contaminants. The corn contained crude protein and fiber in normal level of 11.8 % and 2,5 %, respectively. The moisture content was however found relatively high of 21.3 % in average and about 34 % of corn contaminated by fungi. Mainly insufficient handling and drying after harvesting caused the poor quality.

Abstract

The aim of the present research was to study the quality changes of buffalo’s milk stored in different time period after milking. About 10 liters of fresh buffalo milk which were obtained from Lembah Gumanti, Solok district were used in the experiment. The milk was divided and placed into four groups and stored in room temperature for 4 different time periods: 2, 4, 6 and 8 hours immediately after milking. Parameter measured included: pH, specific gravity and colony number of bacteria. Data was statistically analyzed by variance analysis in Block Randomized Design (RBD) with 4 treatments and 5 replicates. The results indicated that there was significant effect (P<0.01) among the treatment on the characteristic of buffalo milk. It showed that increasing of the storage time after milking have decreased pH and increased specific gravity and bacteria count.

Abstract

The aims of the present research were to calculate some genetically parameters for estimation of milk production potency of dairy cattle based on the recorded data for 10 years of production. Parameter calculated included: heredity, repeatability and production capacity. The data was collected from PT. Taurus Dairy Farm Sukabumi during the period of 1990-2000. Heredity and repeatability values were determined by variance and covariance analysis based on paternal half in completely randomized design. Calculation of milk production capacity was based on most probable producing ability (MPPA) formula. Results showed that the highest milk production of about 3.565.71  670.021 kg/y was obtained during the first lactation period and followed by the fourth lactation period of 3.331,80  806,35 kg/y. The highest heredity value of 0,36  0,35 was obtained at first lactation, followed by third lactation of 0,25  0,31, fourth lactation 0,22  0,30. The repeatability value of milk production was found 0, 33.

Abstract

An experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of substitution of fish meal with hydrolyzed feather-meal in diet on the performances of broiler of 2-6 weeks of age. The treatments consisted of five levels of hydrolyzed feather-meal: 0, 4, 8, 12 and 16% in ration as B0, B4, B8, B12 and B16 respectively. The data collected were analyzed with a completely randomized design of 5 X 4 (5 levels of hydrolyzed feather-meal and 4 replications) and continued with contrast-orthogonal test when available. The results indicated that the level of hydrolyzed feather-meal significantly (P< 0.05) decreased the feed consumption, but the abdominal fat content and caucus weight were not significantly affected. The body weight gain of A4 was found not significantly different with that of control (B0) (1407.5 vs. 1331.00 g), but higher than that of B8 (1195.50), B12 (1118.75 g) and B16 (860.25 g).

Abstract

Research on the habitat and the diversity of feed plants of tapir (Tapirus indicus), barking deer (Muntiacus muncak) and slow loris (Nycticebus coucang) have been conducted at Gunung Tujuh, Kerinci Seblat National Park, Jambi. Survey was carried out by visiting places where tapir, barking deer, and slow loris are usually seen and taking collecting herbarium plant specimen of those animals’feed. The habitat of tapir is in region of Gunung Tujuh forest until the altitude of 2020 m asl. The habitat of barking deer in Gunung Tujuh forest and prefers dense bushes at the edges of forest until the altitude of 1620 m asl. and the habitat of slow loris in low region of forest. This research found 38 species grouped in 25 families of forest plants as feed resources for tapir, barking deer and slow loris.
