Abstract

ABSTRACT The systematic lesson plans are guiding the teachers to provide the effective teaching process. It is like a direction of what the teacher should do during conducting teaching activity. The lesson plan can convey teachers’ performance in their classes in a good way. Unfortunately, many teachers still do not have enough capability to design systematic lesson plan because the teachers get difficulties in interpreting basic competences; therefore, they make a lesson plan incorrectly. The preliminary study conducted in one private junior high school, in fact, the teacher carried out the teaching activities in that school without providing official document  of lesson plan. For this reason, this study aims to discuss how the teaching activities carried out by the teacher without official document of lesson plan at junior high school in Porong to achieve the basic competence. This study was conducted in the classroom of VII-1 in a natural setting, therefore, the appropriate design was qualitative research design. The subject of the study was the English teacher. To collect data, the researcher used observation. The data gained from the observation were described and analyzed to answer the research questions. The results of the study showed that the teaching activities were carried out by the teacher without providing official document of lesson plan were poor. The expectation of the basic competence of writing descriptive text had been failed to be reached. The teacher’s opening, main, and closing activities were poorly organized there were so many weakness could be found. Keyword:  Teaching Activities,  Lesson Plan, junior high school

Abstract

Abstract English as international language plays an important role, such as establish social communication or relationship with other people in the world. If we have good ability in English, it will be easy for us to conduct an international relation with all nations in the world. Hotel is one of tourism industry that has relationship in English communication where the process of communication happens as services given to the guest. The research design used in this study is descriptive qualitative, by giving description about the need of English skill use by Front Office department hotel in Malang. The researcher limited the hotels only the members of Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) in Malang. The respondents of this study were taken from 88 hotels in Malang who has 3 years up working experience in Front Office Department. Finally, the researcher found that speaking skill were maximally used in hotel front office. So, as the implication of this study in the educational field is the university curriculum especially for speaking class should be appropriate with the students need. The implementation of teaching material in speaking class should also base on the needed of stakeholders in order to the students ready to face the challenging of the world. Key Words: English language skills, English for specific purpose, Hotel Front Office

Abstract

 Abstract:  As language teachers, being creative  has become a need to help students to achieve their best performance. This paper is intended to describe how to use the unused printed mass media, such as magazines and newspaper for teaching English to become more fun and  enjoyable. Thus, the paper  focuses on how the teacher can make use of the unsued printed mass—media and develop teaching materials from them. The paper also discusses the  learning stages in  using the unused magazine or newspaper. News paper and magazines are considered as authentic   as they can be easily found in everyday life. Using the unused printed mass-media in the  language classroom  has many advantages because they are  cheap,  easy to get, fun, and  environmentally friendly.Key words: Learning stages,  unused-printed mass media,  taching English.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This research aimed to investigate and describe the finding about the use of movie in teaching sociolinguistics: code-switching or code-mixing. This research applied qualitative research using descriptive method. In collecting the data, the researcher used observation, interview and documentation. Based on the result of data analysis, it could be concluded that the use of audio-visual in teaching sociolinguistics: code-switching or code-mixing showed good response of the students’ attention and participation in Sociolinguistics class. Key words: Audio-visual, teaching sociolinguistics: code-switching or code-mixing

Abstract

ABSTRACT:The purposes of this research are to find out, 1) whether C-ID, R2D2 model is effective to be implemented on learning Reading comprehension, (2) college students’ activity during the implementation of C-ID, R2D2 model on learning Reading comprehension, and 3) college students’ learning achievement during the implementation of C-ID, R2D2 model on learning Reading comprehension. All data are gained from observation sheets from two observers and test given to 31 college students. All data are analyzed by using descriptive quantitative study. The result shows thatC-ID, R2D2 model is effective to be implemented. It can be seen from the result of observation that 3,96 which can be called as high category level. In college students’ activity during its implementation is high, that is 3,97, and also from the total result of college student’s learning achievement, all students get score more than 90.Key words: C-ID, R2D2, Learning, Reading comprehension
