Grammar is a fundamental thing in a language. The researcher assumes based on her observation that the hardest part of making and writing sentence is to arrange the words in a good sentence. Students are still confused when they are going to arrange the words in right grammar. In mastering grammar, students need time, opportunity, exercise and good teaching of grammar. Unfortunately, grammar skill is still lack attention in teaching and learning process. This research is intended to investigate and describe studentsâ ability for using elliptical construction in sentences. In this research, the researcher used descriptive method. The data was evaluated and analyzed to find out studentsâ ability for using elliptical construction in sentences by using percentage formula. There were 34 of 73 students who were in very low category with percentage 46.5%. The result of this research showed that studentsâ ability for using elliptical construction in sentences to the fourth semester students of English Study Program at Muhammadiyah University of Bengkulu was very low. It meant that the fourth semester English students still had lack knowledge and understanding about grammar: elliptical construction.Keywords: Studentsâ Ability, Elliptical Construction,and Sentences.

The use of deixis on every language has different forms including English because of the various different context, such as grammatical rules and also background of culture or custom in society. This research is conducted to identify and analyze the forms of Deixis existed on Articles at Jakarta Post as contextual information. Research method of analyzing data used was descriptive qualitative research. Human instrument and text analysis are used as instruments of collecting data. Based on the data analyzed, it was found that pronoun of person deixis was most frequently used (existed) as second person deixis, third person deixis, possessive personal plural person deixis, and reflective personal person deixis that was used as reference to participant role of a referent for describing the speaker, the addressee and referent which are neither speaker nor addressee in written forms. In addition, the deixis with focus on time was also existed on Jakarta Post’s articles as the moment of utterance which is the coding time (the time of utterance conveyed by informants) and receiving time (the time of recovery of information by the hearer who got the information). The deixis of place that was existed on articles of Jakarta Post, was deictic reference to describe the current locations of informants indicated.

This research aimed to investigate what are the ritual constraints used and how the ritual constraints are expressed in the English classroom interaction at the tenth grade students of SMK YADIKA Lubuklinggau. Method applied in this study was descriptive method. The result of this research was hoped to be useful for teachers and students in teaching and learning process. It gave an input in teaching to emphasize classroom interaction effectively both enhance student achievement and more motivated students in solving the psychology problems, conceptual understanding with the result that the interaction between teacher and students are smooth and yield good feedback each other. Based on the result of data analysis there were four ritual constraints found: (a) ritual constraints in opening/ closing (b) Ritual constraints and backchannel signals, the teacher used verbal backchannel signals such as okay, yeah, and well. Beside, the students used ritual constraints and backchannel signals by using nonverbal backchannel signals such as: eyes contact and body alignment such as stand up and waving their hand. (c) Ritual constraints and turnover signals, the interaction between teacher and students gave signals by giving gaps/ small silences such as, slowing tempo, and falling intonation. (d) Ritual constraints and Grice’s maxim (relevant), the student gave signals to answer the question relevantly without any other information; and ritual constraints and Grice’s maxim (clarity), teacher demanded the students to be brief and orderly.

The aim of this research is to develop the English reading materials in textbook used for students at Senior High School in Lubuklinggau, and to describe the efficacy of instructional design of reading materials for Students at Senior High School in Lubuklinggau. The Eleventh Grade Students of SMA Negeri 5 Lubuklinggau was the sample of this research. In addition, this research applied an Educational Research and Development (R & D) by using a simplified six steps of Borg and Gall’s model. The six steps were: (1) collecting the research information,(2) planning and drafting the data of research, (3) developing the data of research based 2013 curriculum combined with the result, (4) giving tryout (field testing) to the 11th grade students of SMA Negeri 5 Lubuklinggau, (5) evaluating the English reading materials by the experts, and (6) producing the final product (English reading materials in textbook). The findings of this research showed that the English reading materials in textbook that were developed in this research fulfilled the criteria of R & D model. The instructional design as the specific English reading materials was very important and useful to support the students’ reading activities that put not only building the intensive practice for reading comprehension, but also linking to grammar, enriching the vocabulary, and applying the students’ knowledge. Moreover, through the English reading materials in textbook, the students could use it with the suitable and the valuable materials, and they must be motivated to increase their reading proficiency.

This research scrutinizes how Student Team Achievement Division facilitates and affects students in reading comprehension. A pre-experimental design was applied in this research, and it was conducted in six meetings; by giving pretest, four treatments, and posttest. It involved thirty six of the tenth grade students of secondary school at Lubuklinggau, South Sumatera, in Indonesia who attended reading comprehension class. The data were collected by using reading test that was given twice for students; pre-test and post-test were given before and after treatments. The finding of this research disclosed that the students’ average in pretest was 60.00 and in posttest their average score were increased to be 75.00. Based on the result of the paired t-test calculation, it was found that t-obtained 8.196 was higher than t-table 1.684 as the critical value. It meant that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. In other words, the use of Student Team Achievement Division was significantly effective to facilitate and affect the students in reading comprehension.

This research aimed to find out whether or not there is a significant correlation between Students' Achievement in Speaking for Professional Context and their self-efficacy of English Education Research Program at STKIP-PGRI Lubuklinggau in the academic year 2016/2017. The researcher investigated this research through the descriptive correlation method. The data were analyzed by using Person Product Moment formula. Based on the result of data analyzed, it was found out that r-table was 0.288 and r-obtained was 0.546. Therefore, alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected. It meant that there was a positive correlation between Students' Achievement in Speaking for Professional Context and their self-efficacy. However, the strength of correlation level was considered insufficient classification. The conclusion showed that the students' self-efficacy had influenced students' speaking achievement.

ABSTRACT This research aimed to investigate and describe the finding about the use of movie in teaching sociolinguistics: code-switching or code-mixing. This research applied qualitative research using descriptive method. In collecting the data, the researcher used observation, interview and documentation. Based on the result of data analysis, it could be concluded that the use of audio-visual in teaching sociolinguistics: code-switching or code-mixing showed good response of the students’ attention and participation in Sociolinguistics class. The aim of this research was to identify the category of students’ instrumental motivation and to describe the importance of instrumental motivation in the English learning process of English as Foreign Language (EFL) students. A quantitative descriptive method was used in this research to analyze the data. The subject of this research was 28 EFL students from the fourth semester students of English Education Study Program at STKIP-PGRI Lubuklinggau. The researchers used questionnaire and interview as instruments in obtaining the data investigation. Techniques for analysis the data were identification, calculation, classification, description and conclusion. The result of this research revealed that the students’ instrumental motivation was in strong category with total average 77.93 %. It meant that the categories level of motivation among the fourth semester students of English Education Study Program at STKIP-PGRI Lubuklinggau to study English is strong motivation. This proved that students had a very strong level of instrumental motivation. The students believed that a good way will be a good thing and motivation is enough to help them. With the aim of passing the exam, getting a job, having a better career, and getting a better future was their motivation in learning English. Automatically, it was proved that they had instrumental motivation, and it made them more motivated to achieve their goals though they learn English as foreign language. It indicated that instrumental motivation had an important role in the English learning process to the EFL students in English education study program at STKIP-PGRI Lubuklinggau. In summary, instrumental motivation was one of the factor that influenced the students to be success in learning a foreign language (English). This motivation was also very helpful in English learning process, because students who had this motivation show that they wanted to learn English seriously.

This qualitative research described students pronunciation error mostly appeared in speaking for general communication class. The participants were the first semester students. This research was descriptive method. It involved describing, analyzing, and interpreting of condition that existed. In collecting the data, the researcher used documentation. Based on the result of data analysis, it could be concluded that students made of three types of pronunciation error. The pronunciation errors were pre systematic error, systematic error, and post systematic error. Furthermore, the students dominant error made was pre systematic error. The errors of students made were caused by three sources of students competence error in learning English as Foreign Language. They were interference error, intra lingual error, and developmental error. Key words: pronunciation, error, speaking for general communication.

This research aimed to find out the students ability in producing the sentences of simple present tense at STMIK Musi Rawas. The research was a qualitative study. As stated in findings, it interpreted that there were 34 students (62.91 percent) in the low category. Thus, there were 15 students (27.50 percent) in the good category. Finally, there were 5 students (9.59 percent) in the excellent category. Hence, it can be concluded that students ability in producing the sentences of simple present tense was still low. It showed that many students still got difficulties in producing the sentences of simple present tense especially for verb in third person singular as the subject pronoun.
