ARBITRER Jurnal Masyarakat Linguistik Indonesia, merupakan jurnal ilmiah yang menyajikan artikel orisinil tentang pengetahuan dan informasi penelitian atau aplikasi penelitian dan pengembangan terkini dalam bidang ilmu bahasa (linguistik). Jurnal ini merupakan sarana publikasi dan ajang berbagi informasi keilmuan terkait dan pengembangannya di bidang humaniora khususnya linguistic, yang diterbitkan oleh program studi Linguistik Unand. Pemuatan artikel di jurnal ini dialamatkan ke alamat editor. Informasi lengkap untuk pemuatan artikel dan petunjuk penulisan artikel tersedia di dalam setiap terbitan. Artikel yang diterbitkan telah melalui proses seleksi oleh editior dan reviewer. Jurnal ini terbit secara berkala sebanyak dua kali dalam setahun (April dan Oktober). Artikel yang lolos seleksi akan dipungut biaya guna keberlanjutan jurnal, sedangkan pengiriman naskah tidak dipungut biaya. Diharapkan ARBITRER Jurnal Masyarakat Linguistik Indonesia cabang Universitas Andalas dengan tampilan baru ini akan terbit berkelanjutan dan terakreditasi.

Abstract

There are many new words from the social media such as Netizen, Trentop, and Delcon. Those words include in blending. Blending is one of word formations combining two clipped words to form a brand new word. The researchers are interested in analyzing blend words used in the social media such as Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and Blackberry Messenger. This research aims at (1) finding blend words used in the social media (2) describing kinds of blend words used in social media (3) describing the process of blend word formation used in the social media. This research uses some theories dealing with definition of blending and kinds of blending. This research belongs to descriptive qualitative research. Data of the research are English blend words used in social media. Data sources of this research are websites consisting of some English words used in social media and some social media users as the informant. Techniques of data collecting in this research are observation and simak catat. Observation is by observing some websites consisting of some English words used in social media. Simak catat is done by taking some notes on the data and encoding in symbols such as No/Blend words/Kinds of Blending. The researchers use source triangulation to check the data from the researchers with the informant and theory triangulation to determine kinds of blending and blend word formation in social media. There are115 data of blend words. Those data consists of 65 data of Instagram, 47 data of Twitter, 1 datum of Facebook, and 2 data of Blackberry Messenger. There are 2 types of blending used in social media;108 data of blending with clipping and 7 data of blending with overlapping. There are 10 ways of blend word formation found in this research.

Abstract

Malay manuscripts contain all kinds of knowledge. The manuscripts not only tell stories, they also depict various knowledge within the minds of past generations. In this paper discuss elements of illumination and the use of calligraphy in Malay letters on past Malay letters. The research is limited on Malay letters in social letters in the period 1521-1899. Malay society in the olden days practiced very fine arts as shown in the Malay letters through illumination and through the use of various types and designs of calligraphy. They used the world of nature to express their feelings. This paper will reveal that the traditional Malay society was not impoverished of art, that they had the highest aesthetic value in art, even beyond comparison with the present.

Abstract

The article aims to examine the similarities and differences between Minangkabau languages in the origin regions 50 Kota and Pasaman West Sumatra compared to rantau areas Kampar and Rokan Hulu Riau. The study is done by dialectology approach which focuses on affixes. The data are collected by using conversational observation method along with the interview and record techniques. The data are analyzed by using identity method along with immediate constituent analysis and advanced techniques, comparative and contrastive techniques. The result shows there similarities and differences of Minangkabau affixes between both areas.

Abstract

Dictionary is one of the important media in learning English. Along with the rapid development of mobile technology at this time, the various applications for mobile is widely developed as a medium of learning, one of them is the application of Android-based dictionary. Dictionaries on mobile devices are more practical than conventional dictionaries, as users can receive information quickly anywhere without space and time constraints. Related to this, the research aims to create a dictionary application of English-Indonesian graphics techniques capable of running on android-based phones. This application is built to help and meet the needs of students majoring in graphic technique in searching for meaning and understand various English words related to science of graphics. The collection of words and phrases (word entries) related to the science of graphic technique is done through literature studies of books, internet and other relevant sources. In addition, the collection of words and phrases is also done by conducting in-depth interviews with lecturers or graphic technique experts. The programming languages used in making this language dictionary application use Java 2 Micro Edition (J2ME) and SQLite. The dictionary after being validated of 4.14 with good category) and tested received positive response from the students indicated with very positive questionnaire results.

Abstract

Human is a part of language development. Human use language in every aspects of life, including in cyberspace. Cyberspace give a lot of ease in interaction and expressing yourself that sometimes people didn't realize breaking the rules of language use. Twitter is one of social media that provided in cyberspace. Verified twitter account is an account that is consider to have part or influence in the society. The owner of the account can be individual or institution. The objective of this research is to get information about language error in verified twitter account, explain the error and correct it. The research method that used is descriptive analysis. The researcher collect evidences as much as possible and then analyze them. The result of the research is that there are language errors in verified twitter posts, especially in the use of standardized Indonesian language Keyword: Error, Language, Twitter, Verified
