Abstract

An experimental study on the growth of rubber seedling (Hevea brasiliensis Mull Arg.) after inoculated with various doses of indigineous Arbuscular Mycorrizhal Fungy (AMF) from Biology Forest Research Center (FRCB) Andalas University Padang has been done from February to September 2013 in wire house and Plant Physiology Laboratory, Biology Department, Andalas University, Padang. The study aimed to find appropriate doses of indigineous Arbuscular Mycorrizhal Fungy (AMF) to growth rubber seedling. The experimental used Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with four treatments (control, 10, 20, and 30 g inoculants) and six replications. The results showed that 10 g inoculant gave significant effect to growth and dry weight of rubber stem due to high percentage of root infection. However rubber assosiatian with mycorrizha are less dependency. Keywords : rubber, AMF, inoculant, seedling growth

Abstract

Ploidization of Mystacoleucus padangensis Bleeker, 1852 (Pisces: Cyprinid) with heat shock induction has been carried out from January to September 2014 at Genetics and Cytology Laboratory, Biology Department of Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Andalas University. This study aimed to find suitable temperature for ploidizatiom on M. padangensis. The study used Completely Randomized Design method with five treatments and five replications. The treatments were various water temperatures (i.e. 27oC as control, 36oC, 38oC, 40oC, and 42oC). The results showed that triploid individuals were found in all treatments but not control. Keywords: ploidization, Mystacoleucus padangensis, heat shock

Abstract

An experiment aimed to increase alkaloid content of Phaleria macrocarpa callus using tryptophan as a precursor in Murashige & Skoog media was done from September 2013 to January 2014 at the Laboratory of Plant Physiology, Faculty of Sciences, Andalas University. This experiment used Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 6 treatments and 4 replications. The treatments were 6 consentrations of tryptophan i.e.0 mg/L (control), 100 mg/L, 125 mg/L, 150 mg/L, 175 mg/L, 200 mg/L. The results showed that tryptophan 200 mg/L gave the best concentration in producing the highest alkaloid content of Phaleria macrocarpa callus.

Abstract

Study on bird community based on altitudinal zonation of Singgalang Mountain, West Sumatra was conducted in January 2014. This study aimed to describe community structure the bird from lower to higher elevation of the mountain. This study used point count method along a survey routes from 1300 to 2700 m asl, which is divided into three zones (Zone I: 1300 - 1800 m asl, Zone II: 1800 - 2200 m asl and Zone III: 2200 - 2700 m asl). This study recorded 216 individuals of 38 bird species to 21 families and 9 orders. The highest species diversity and richness was in Zone II. Zone III had low richness and low species diversity but the presence of bird is more evenly distributed. Most of the endemic bird species at Mount Singgalang was found at Zone I (1300 to 2300 m asl). Species richness decreases along increasing the altitudinal zonation of Singgalang Mountain.Key Words : Altitudinal zonation, community, bird, Singgalang Mountain
