Abstract

Rimbo Panti Nature Reserve is a conservation area located in West Sumatra which consisted of two main habitat types, dry hilly and swampy forest habitat types. These forest types potentially board many species of mammals. This research was conducted from December 2015 to March 2016 in The Nature Reserve to determine the diversity of mammals occupied each type of habitats. Twenty two camera traps were installed in pairs, six pairs in the dry hilly habitat (574-871 m asl) and five pairs in the swampy habitat (216-261 m asl). From a total 109 photos, 17 species were identified, consisted of 11 species from hilly and 10 species from swampy forest habitat. There were four species found in both habitat types. Shannon-Wiener diversity index showed that mammalian diversity of Rimbo Panti Nature Reserve is moderate (H’=1.95) while mammalian diversity in swampy forest (H’= 2.06) was higher than hilly habitat forest (H’=1.54).

Abstract

The industrial liquid waste of crude palm oil contains organic material that can lead to degradation of water quality and ultimately affect the macrozoobenthos communities living on the river bed. The Masang Kecil River in Kinali Pasaman Barat receives the liquid waste of the palm oil industry. The research aimed to find out the composition and structure of macrozoobentos community in  Masang Kecil River and determine the water quality of river based on macrozoobenthic community structure was done in June 2017. The research was conducted by survey method with purposive sampling technique. Samples were collected on 3 stations: Station I before entering the liquid waste of palm oil industry, Station II after entering the waste, Station III is located after Station II which has been entered by Anak Aia stream. In each station collected three samples of macrozoobentos with a surber net size of 30x30 cm2. The results showed that macrozoobenthos community found 43 species consist of 33 species of Insecta, Oligochaeta 4 species, Gastropoda 3 species, Hirudinae 2 species, Arachnida and Turbellaria one species respectively. The largest number of individuals was shown by Insecta (71.89%) followed by Hirudinea (25.1%) and the other class was not more than 3%. The highest density is found at station III and the lowest at station I. The dominant species on station I were Stenelmis sp. and Psephenoides sp., stations II and III were Erphobdella sp. and Hydropsyche elisoma. The diversity index ranges from 1.49 to 3.01. The index of equitability ranges from 0.47 to 0.89, the dominant index ranges from 0.06 to 0.43. The similarity of communities between station ranged from 38.46 - 55.0%. Based on the index of diversity, water quality in Station I was classified as not polluted, Station II and III classified as moderate.

Abstract

Lake Aur has many aquatic biota as well as become one of the mainstay attractions in Musi Rawas Regency. Community activities and lack of awareness of tourists on the cleanliness and importance of maintaining the lake environment have an impact on water pollution. One of the organisms that can be used as an indicator of river water quality is microalgae. The purpose of this study is to determine the types of microalgae Bacillariophyta divisions that exist in the lake Aur, Musi Rawas. The type of research used is survey research. Bacillariophyta Division consists of two classes, 6 orders, 7 families, 8 genera and 11 species. Observed environmental factors: temperature: 290C, pH: 6.7, Brightness: 115 cm and dissolved oxygen amount of: 38 mg / L. Based on the results of research and discussion, we can conclude that: the type of microalgae division bacillariophyta were found in Lake Aur namely: Cylotella sp, Eunotia sp, Eunotia pectinalis, Fragilaria croronensis, Synedra acus, Nitzschia sp, Nitzschia acicularis, Surirella sp, Surirella elegans, Pinnularia sp and Stauroneis sp.

Abstract

The influence of Naphthalene Acetate Acid (NAA) on the in vitro root growth of banana Raja Kinalun was carried out from April to September 2015 in The Laboratories of Plant Physiology and Tissue Culture, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Andalas, Padang. The aim of  this study was to find the effective concentration of NAA for initiation of root. This study used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with four treatments and three replications. The treatments were: without NAA (control); NAA 1 ppm, NAA 2 ppm and NAA 3 ppm. The result showed that the effective doses were NAA 1 and 2 ppm for each number of roots growth.

Abstract

The objective of present study was to identify bioactivity of antibacterial Indonesian Seagrass Thalassia hemprichii dan Enhalus acoroides from Karang Tirta Beach, Padang City, West Sumatera. This is a preliminary research for a new alternative antibiotic from Seagrass in Indonesia. In this study the seagrass was examined by a maceration process and using the rotary evaporator to obtain viscous extract. The material for the bioactivity testing was performed upon several intended bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Stapillococcus aureus, and Bacillus subtilis. The bioactivity testing was performed by using the method of resazurin and MIC (Minimum Inhibitory Concentration), which is determined by looking at well blue-colored at the smallest concentration. The result revealed that the best antibacterial bioactivity of Thalassia hemprichii extract was a total of 62.50 μg/mL N-hexane solvent against Escherichia coli and Stapillococcus aureus bacteria. While the best antibacterial bioactivity of Enhalus acoroides extract is 15.62 μg/mL of N-hexane solvent against Stapillococcus aureus.

Abstract

The research about application of liquid organic fertilizers with indigenous microorganism bioactivator of HPPB for growth of Desmodium heterophyllum on limestone mined land at PT. Semen Padang, had been conducted from May to August 2015 in Nursery and Reforestation, Laboratory of Plant Physiology Department of Biology, and the Laboratory of Soil Science Faculty of Agriculture, Andalas University, Padang. The research aimed to determine the effect and concentration of Liquid Organic Fertilizers (LOF) by using indigenous microorganism bioactivator originated from HPPB in limestone mined land ofPT. Semen Padang. This study used Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with five treatments and four replications. The treatments were control without LOF (A), 10% LOF (B), 20% LOF (C), 30% LOF (D) and 40% LOF (E). The results showed that 10% LOF was the best concentration to increase the number of leaves (36,44), percentage of land cover (6,71%) and fresh weight of plants (5,15g).

Abstract

Pollen morphology of three variants of Arundina graminifolia in West Sumatra was examined. The pollen types, shapes, apertures and ornamentations were examined using scanning electron microscope. There was variation of pollen shape between three variant of Arundina graminifolia. There was different of pollen shape white variant to pink and purple variant. The pollen shape of white variant were oblate sferoidal. The prolate shapes were detected at pink and purpe variant. Three variants Arundina graminifolia have the same ornamentation exine that is the reticulum and there kolpus of the same type, namely tri-kolpate and tetra-kolpate
