Abstract

This paper aims to unveil an American couple’s, Andi and Becky (Psudonyms), experiences when learning Bahasa Indonesia for foreign speakers in Indonesia (BIPA) informally aside from their non- formal learning. They were undertaking a BIPA course hosted by a language center running under a higher education institution. The research in this paper employed a narrative inquiry method of research mainly through interview to cast more light on their informal learning of BIPA. From the findings, it was revealed that they perceived informal BIPA learning as important as the course they were taking and they believed that culture was part of language learning therefore in their views, experiencing it at the natural context would be the best way of learning the culture. Furthermore, when carrying out informal learning to support their BIPA course, they hung out to public place to make exchanges with local people, invited local friends to come home and to help them practice speaking, always took a small notebook of new vocabulary list, the visualization of vocabulary through drawing, writing a journal, listening to Indonesian music, and watching YouTube video. Most of these findings were consistent with the account of sociocultural perspective and situated cognition on learning.

Abstract

The majority of students at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Al-Mustaqim Lawang Malang still find it difficult to apply thinking skills, this problem the researcher wants to elaborate on by developing Arabic Handout Subjects to Train Students' Critical Thinking Skills. The purpose of this research is to develop Handout for Arabic Subjects based on Thematic Short Stories, Knowing the feasibility of Handout for Arabic Subjects Based on Thematic Short Stories, and Knowing students' critical thinking skills. The method that researchers use is the method of research and development (research and development), with ADDIE design (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). The development of this teaching material has resulted in a product in the form of teaching materials for Arabic Subject Handouts based on Thematic Short Stories. From the results of the validation, this Handout is proven valid, with an average of 96% material validation stating very valid and the results of the validation of media experts 94% saying it is very valid, in line with this value the test results for students of Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Al-Mustaqim Lawang show 88, 1% said it was valid, thus the research on the development of Handout for Arabic Subjects based on Thematic Short Stories was effective in improving students' critical thinking skills.

Abstract

One of the very significant aspects affecting the satisfaction of the visitors on the intended destination is Halal tourism. Thus, the present study meant to examine Halal Tourism marketing strategies on authentic Lombok cultures, West Nusa Tenggara. A descriptive qualitative approach was utilized. The informers consisted of eight social-community prominent characters, and some representations of cultural advisors in Lombok Island. The instruments were digital camera, and recording devices. To collect the data, the observation, semi-structured interviews, and relevant documents were activated. The data was collected based on Miles’s and Huberman’s (1984) theory; data reduction, display, and conclusion. The finding exhibited that Halal Tourism marketing strategies on authentic Lombok culture is still low or not optimally attained. It was proved that local visitors (867,209) were higher than foreign visitors (583,621) in 2019 who came to Lombok Island.

Abstract

The fascinations that the study of speech acts holds for language teachers, researchers, and practitioners from severe problems to which language use fail to maintain amid the speakers’ communication are imperative to be investigated. This study examines structured speech acts use in terms of its kinds, functions, and how it is performed by pre-service EFL teachers in Indonesia. The theory of Austin’s and Searle’s speech acts were employed as the main reference. This study was a descriptive qualitative method. Content analysis was employed to uncover the description of the research phenomena which in the forms of words, clauses, phrases, and sentences. There were three students in one of the private universities in Lombok, NTB, Indonesia were taken as the respondents. There were twenty-four fragments being analyzed. As the result, the locutionary acts was performed 224 times, then followed by illocutionary acts 223 times, and perlocutionary acts 215 times. Representative function of speech acts was performed 163 times, directive 28 times, expressive 26 times, commissive 6 times, and declarative 0 times. The declarative sentence was highly performed 131 times by the speakers designated the way the speech was acts performed by the speakers.

Abstract

This research aims to find out 1) form of religious character through the teacher’s accuaracy ini shaping the student’s peersonality, 2) strategy in instilling religiuous character through the method accuray in shaping the personality of student’s. This research uses qualitative appoarch with descriptive method namely in describing or interpreting the circumstances of the problem to be examined using words instead of numbers. Data collection techiques in this study use observe the process of planting religious values in students, interviews to obtain data in the form of religious activities and strategies used instilling the value of religiousity to students, and documentation to obtain data in the form of vision and mission, infrstructure, human resources, and history of the esthablishment of MI Raudlatusshibyan NW Belencong. Data analysis techniques in this research through data reduction, data model, and data verification. Data sources obtained from principals, student, and teachers in MI Raudlatusshibyan NW Belencong. The result show that; 1) the for of religious character instillid through the method of nudity in shaping the personality of students is diligent in worshiping, serious in studing, having a moral attitude kharimah, and exempliying the attitude of teachers. 2) strategies in instilling religiuous character through in shaping student personalities are through reward and punishment, persuasive, rules and norms, and nudity. The conclusion of this research is religious character through the method of accuary in shaping the personality of student in MI Raudlatusshibyan NW Belencong by using various strategies in instilling it this very clearly presented and is appropriate to improve religiuous character in students.

Abstract

The aim of study was to find out the effect of Write Around Strategy towards students’ writing skill in descriptive text. This study applied quantitative method with experimental study type. The technique of collecting the data of the study was using Pre-test and Post-test. The data analysis technique used median, mode and mean to find the effect of student`s writing skill in descriptive text. Based on the explanation above, the researcher concluded that Write Around Strategy was positive effect towards students` writing skill in descriptive text. Based on the data analysis, the researcher found that the result of t- test was 5.92 and the level of 0.05 (9,5), then t-table 200. Therefore, write around strategy were accepted. This meant that the null hypothesis (Ho) which said, “Write Around Strategy has no positive effect towards students’ writing skill in descriptive text.” was rejected, while the alternative hypothesis (Ha) which said, “Write Around Strategy Write Around Strategy has positive effect towards students` writing skill in descriptive text” was accepted.
