Abstract

Mixture of soybean (Glycinia soyae L.) tempeh paste and spinach (Amaranthus sp.) fermented by Kombucha culture produces potential source of natural folic acid. The experiment activity aims to find out the best ratio of gelatin and CMC as thickener in emulsification to prepare supplement of natural folic acid. Emulsification process was conducted by adding gelatin and CMC at ratio of 0 : 0, 0.1 : 2, 0.2 : 4, 0.3 : 6, 0.4 : 8, and 0.5 : 10 (g/g) in mixture of fermented spinach concentration of 2.5, 5.0, 7.5, and 10.0% (w/w in soybean tempeh) and soybean tempeh. The best drying treatment was achieved at 50°C for 24 h. Result of experiment activity showed that based on the best folic acid, the optimum treatment to yield supplement paste was achieved at combination of gelatin-CMC ratio of 0.4 : 8 (g/100 g in mixture paste) and fermented spinach 2.5% (b/b in soybeans tempeh). Identification on folic acid in paste and supplement powder with mass spectra had been identified 6 folic acid monomer dominated by folic acid monomer with molecular weight (M+1) 442.87 and 442.66 Dalton (Da.) with relative intensity 100%. Paste and powder of supplement displayed distribution of particle size 1,745.1 and 984.1 nm with particle indexes of 1.124 and 1.121.Keywords : folic acid , gelatin, emulsification, tempeh, spinach, ratio.

Abstract

Antacids dosage form are a class of drugs used to chemically bind and neutralize stomach acid. Simethicone is one of the antacids that works as an antiflatulant. In an effort to guarantee the quality of a preparation, a valid analysis method is needed that meets the validation parameters. This study aims to modified of extraction method of the simethicone content of suspension samples using the FTIR method. The methods include simethicone modification of extraction from suspension preparations with toluene solvents and hydrochloric acid (2:5) 3.35. Validation methods include: determination of precision, accuracy, limit of detection (LOD), and limit of quantification (LOQ) at wave number 1261 cm-1 and determination of the content of samples of simethicone suspension. The results showed that linearity parameters with a correlation coefficient of 0.997 in a concentration range of 1000-10,000 ppm, precision with a value of KV <2%, LOD and LOQ, respectively 378.97 and 1250.59 ppm. The results of the determination of simethicone suspension samples indicate that this method met the requirements of the validation parameters.Keywords: Validation, Simethicone, Infrared Spectrophotometry, antacid

Abstract

Escherichia coli is a gram negative bacterium which is a normal flora in the digestive tract. In birds, this bacterium causes a disease known as colibasillosis. Antibiotics are generally used, but excessive use will cause residues and antibiotic resistance. To avoid resistance or residue, an alternative treatment is needed. The combination of propolis and ginger extract is very promising to develop because both have a synergistic effect as antimicrobials. The research aims to determine the effect of the combination extract on Escherichia coli bacteria in vitro. We used 8 groups which contain combinations of propolis and ginger extract. We used amoxicillin disk as a positive control, 1% Na CMC as a negative control. The results showed a combination of ginger and propolis extract showed good inhibitory activity against Escherichia coli in all groups> 6mm., and the highest inhibitory activity was K3 (5% propolis combination and 15% ginger extract) with 8.7 mm. The combination of propolis and ginger extract has the potential to be used as an alternative antibiotic to prevent antibiotic resistance from synthetic antibiotics.Keywords: alternative antibiotics, combination extracts, Escherichia coli, ginger, in vitro, propolis

Abstract

Injure healing process occured on four phases such as hemostatis, inflammation, and maturation. Latex of Patah Tulang (Euphorbia tirucalli L.) can heal the wound because of its component active. Aim of this research was to find out the effect of ointment topical of E. tirucalli L. to wound healing process based on macroscopic and microscopic examination and cellular reaction of CD4+ lymphocyte. Male Wistar Rat, 2 month old, 150-200 Gram of body weight, as much as 36 rats. Rats were divided into 4 groups, and were anesthesized before punctioned on the 2 sides of lateral vertebrae. Group one was used as a control, group two was given with the ointment 9% of E. tirucalli L., group three was given with 23% of E. tirucalli L., and group four was given madecassol®. Treatment was given once a day for 15 days. Macroscopical and microscopical changes were observed at the fifth, tenth, and fifteenth day. Macroscopical observation was the diameter of injure. Microscopical observation consisted of epidermal thicness, number of fibroblast, using Haematoxylin and Eosin staining, and cellular reaction of CD4+ lymphocyte using imunohistochemistry. The results showed that topical administration of E. tirucalli ointment 9% and 23% potential to accelerate wistar skin wound healing puncture wounds. There was no difference between E. tirucalli ointment 9% and 23% application to observed parameters.Keywords: Euphorbia tirucalli L., injure healing, macroscopic, microscopic, lymphocyte CD4+

Abstract

Hyperlipidemia is a condition due to increased levels of total cholesterol such as triglycerides, Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL) and decreased levels of High Density Lipoprotein (HDL). Hyperlipidemia can trigger wall thickening and narrowing of arteries, this condition can cause abnormality of fat metabolism in the blood and creates chronic disease. Lansau herb of the Muna tribe of Southeast Sulawesi consists of 44 ingredients of medicinal plants empirically used to treat various diseases such as koleseterol. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of ethanolic extract to the hispatology of the liver that had hyperlipidemia. The parameters are fatty cell and necrosis forming. Mice were induced by cholesterol and high-fat feed. 24 wistar rats were divided into 6 groups consisting of normal control (1% Na CMC), cholesterol and high fat diet food induction control, positive control (simvastatin 0.4 mg / kgbw), group 1 (dose 6.907 mg / kgbw) group II (dose 13.814 mg /kgbw), group III (dose 27.628 mg/kgbw). After 14 days of treatment, hispatological datas  of liver were observed. The results showed that the ethanol extract of lansau had the potential activity as antihyperlipidemia, and cell repairing, especially in administering doses of 27.628 mg/kgbw and had effectiveness that was not much different from the administration of simvastatin in reducing fat degeneration and cell death.Key word : Aterosclerosis, hyperlipidemic, Lansau, simvastatin.
