Abstract

The ability of reading comprehension is an ability, skill, and dexterity to empower the reader in cognitive function/ mental to understanding the emblem/ symbol written language such as words, phrases, sentences contained in the passage, either expressly (literal comprehension) or implied (comprehension interpretive, critical, creative) appropriately. Many possible factors that affect the ability to read one's understanding , such is its mastery of sentence structure. In other words, an increase in the ability of reading comprehension can be done through increasing mastery of sentence structure. In this case the control structure of the sentence is the person's level of mastery of the rules, the use of the term or phrase analysis contained in the passage, either on the form of the sentence , the meaning of the phrase , and sentence patterns. Through mastery strktur adequate sentence readers have the potential to quickly and accurately understand the emblem/ symbol written language contained in the passage either expressed or implied, as he has mastered the rules, the use of the term or phrase analysis contained in the passage , both regarding form of the sentence, the meaning of the phrase, and sentence patterns . Abstract

The aims of the research were to find out (a) the level of the students’ ability in making mind map based on the article of The Jakarta Post in Extensive Reading, (b) the problems the students have in comprehending the article of The Jakarta Post in Extensive Reading in making mind map. The data collecting technique used was a test of reading based on comprehension. The population of the research was all students of semester 6 totaling to 161 students. While the sample was taken from all 4 classes by which each class was taken at about 25%. Therefore the total sample was 48 students. The result of data analysis showed that the average ability of the students reached only 59.02. In detail, research result showed that none of the samples (0 %) could do the mind map correctly or get an A. The participants who got good achievement (B) amounted to only 4 people (2.48%). The majority of the participants belonged to the level of good enough to be able to make main idea analysis in order to make the mind map. The not good enough level became the majority achievement among all amounting to 89.43%. The students’ ability which got the perfect inability level in making the mind map rose to 8.09%. The problems the students had in making the mind map was the fact that they had no idea in identifying main ideas of the content of the text. Besides that students also failed in comprehending the new vocabulary they found while they were reading the articles. Failure in comprehending the new difficult words led the to get the failure in identifying main ideas by which in turns they found themselves to have no clear map of their understanding of the articles they had read. Abstract

Approach or conventional writing instructional strategies used by teachers in teaching in primary schools is not a product-oriented writing process so that it is necessary to develop the skills of how to write a children's elementary school. One way in developing writing skills, using the approach Writers Workshop. Teaching procedures using Writers Workshop approach is implemented through: (1) teaching mini, 5-15 minutes, (2) write freely, for 30-45 minutes, and discussion (sharing) for 10-15 minutes with classmates. Abstract

Sebagai akibat dari ekspansi besar VOC (Persekutuan Dagang Hindia Timur) di Asia administrasi perusahaan multinasional pertama di dunia itu berkembang luar biasa. Oleh karena itu perlu usaha untuk mengakomodasi pemukiman bagi orang-orang Belanda yang terlibat dalam kegiatan perdagangan yang dilakukan VOC. Pada saat itu, dengan perjalanan panjang dari Belanda ke Asia yang membutuhkan waktu lebih dari setengah tahun mereka harus berjuang menghadapi iklim ekstrim yang berbeda dari iklim di negerinya serta tantangan lainnya selama tinggal di Asia yang kebanyakan wilayahnya beriklim tropis. Dengan demikian, strategi bertahan diperlukan untuk mengatasi situasi ini. Tujuan penulisan artikel adalah untuk membandingkan pemukiman pegawai VOC di dua kota pelabuhan penting di Asia Tenggara pada masa itu, yakni Malaka dan Ayutthaya berdasarkan bentuk fisik dan pengaturan administrasinya. Abad ke-17 menjadi kerangka waktu karena periode tersebut adalah masa-masa gemilang VOC selama ekspansinya melintasi samudera dan benua. Dengan menggunakan sumber-sumber sekunder artikel ini tidak akan mencoba untuk menemukan sesuatu yang baru, tetapi hanya untuk mendapatkan wawasan lebih mengenai pemukiman VOC di kota-kota pelabuhan di Asia Tenggara. Abstract

Moral crisis that hit the Indonesian nation in recent years, not only experienced by the non-educated, even now many intellectuals struck. One reason is the education process has not integrate the knowledge and values. So far, the role of knowledge including mathematics no more left brain only serve that only requires logical thinking skills that equip students only smart but do not equip students are smart. This is because mathematics is the cornerstone of scientific thinking which is separated from the value, but it affects the attitudes and behavior of people in decisions and actions. If early planting religiosity values elaborated with knowledge of Mathematics, it will give birth to light pious people who can bring change to glory. The purpose of this study was decrypt the prototype model of a religious character education based on knowledge of school mathematics. This study uses a model of the 4D development Thiagarajan consisting of Define, Design, Develop and Desseminate. The subject of the study was mathematics schools and Instructional Materials Development (PBA), which developed into a religious character-based educational materials school math knowledge. While the test subjects are mathematics education students who have taken the PBA in the year 2013/2014. Expected results of research are educational teaching materials produced prototypes built religious character of the school of mathematical knowledge. Abstract

This research describes character educational values and their constraints in internalize it on learning history at senior high school. Interview and document studies were used to collect information. Interactive model of data analyze were chosen in this research consist of several stages, i.e. data reduction, data display, and conclusion. Result of study shown internalization of character values are necessity. It caused learning history potentially become a media for values transmission through historical event and exemplary of heroes. Nevertheless, there was several constaints in internalization of character values. It appears in teachers' understanding, students’ attitude, learning practice, and school culture does not support character education optimally. For that, there need sustainable effort, teachers’ creativity to instill character and exemplary in learning process in order to achieve internalization of values work optimally. Abstract

This research tried to improve the test instrument at advanced calculus 2. The objectives of this research was to test instrument the valid and good based on problem solving. This research uses 4-D development model of Thiagarajan (1974) which consists of four stages: define, design, develop, and disseminate. This research only ended up at the stage of develop. Test validity processed by test proporsion, whereas testing of result analyzable by validity, and reliability. Product of the research show (1) the test instrument developed was proved to be valid by the validator with the following averaged scores 3,05 and 3,18 from the maximal averaged score 4, (2) the analysis of experiment producted test instrument which validity and reliability. Based on the overall findings from this research we can conclude that the test instrument were proved to be valid, and good. Key words : test instrument, problem solving, 4-D
