Abstract

Biodegradation of the bioplastic composite based on cellulose from oil palm empty fruit bunches was investigated in this study. Microbes consortium from landfill soil collected from top soil were used as the inoculums for the biodegradation process. Biodegradation test of the bioplastic from oil palm empty fruit bunch samples compared with oxodegradation and conventional plastic samples were conducted in the glass jar. The biodegradation rate was evaluated from CO2 generated from the biodegradation process and absorbed by 0.1 N sodium hydroxide solutions. The generated CO2 was titrated with 0.1 N HCl and using phenolphthalein (PP) followed by methyl oranges indicator. The results showed that the highest CO2 production on landfill soil indicating the highest rate of biodegradation was found on bioplastic from oil palm empty fruit bunch followed by oxodegradable plastic and conventional plastic. The rate of biodegradation for bioplastic from oil palm empty fruit bunch, oxodegradable plastic and conventional plastic were 0.067mg CO2/day, 0.052 mg CO2/day and 0 mg CO2/day, respectively.

Abstract

Trees are important for rural people livelihood, because of its function as savings for urgent need. The recognition function of trees has increase by using it as collateral to access loan. The aim of this study is to discover the household and smallholder private forest characteristic that acces delaying timber harvesting loan for smallholder private forest (PTT-HR) in Bojonegoro, Indonesia as one of the loan scheme using trees as collateral initiate by Public Service Agency of Ministry of Environment and Forestry (BLU KLHK). About 170 farmers were involved in this study which is devided into two groups; debtors and non-debtors Result of this studies indicate that farmers accessing this loan are from prosperous farmer, which characterized by young aged, high education level, have the main job not as farmers, have greater household income, wider total area owned, forest relatively far from house, and do not having experience of logging. This condition also supported by the result of poverty level determination from World Bank which indicate only 27% farmer with poor condition who access this scheme. According to the perspective of formal lending institution, giving loan to prosperous farmer is not risky, but according to the program perspective this condition is less suited to poverty alleviation missions

Abstract

Strengthening character education becomes important thing nowadays as stated in Presidential Decree No. 87 year 2017. Student’s clean and healthy lifestyle reflects from their mind and character. To implement the character education, there are many factors involved in it. The purpose of this research is to identify the variable predictors of student’s clean and healthy environment considering teacher role model variables as intervening variables. The analysis of this relationship pattern is based on an interactionist perspective arguing that student behavior does not occur in isolation, but as an impact of interaction results. School environment is faced daily by students. The intensity of this interaction can lead to healthy and hygienic behavior habits through teacher’s role model. Regression analysis used to prove the perspective of interactionist is based on secondary data of Healthy School Competition period 2016 and 2017. This competition is a junior high school and high school/vocational school competitions representing the province to be included in the national competition. The data used in this study comes from an observation instrument filled by Healthy School Competition Officers at the National level, and students at schools designated as provincial representatives. Students who were selected as subjects were selected randomly. By using regression analysis, empirical tendency showed that school environment factor namely clean and healthy environment become predictor to the formation of student’s clean and healthy behaviour.

Abstract

ABSTRACTPoboya River has provide many benefits for local as to suffice their needs of clean water, agriculture/ plantation, husbandry, household and also used for people’s gold mining. Gold mining is dominated by amalgamation techniques which are potentially contaminated by mercury. This study aims to derive a mercury pollution control strategy from a sustainable people’s gold mining. This study includes interviewing the key stakeholders that have been chosen purposively using questionnaire. The data obtained were then analyzed by AHP. The results of this study found that potential factors on mercury pollution control were government policies which related to the implementation of gold mining management, supporting facilities and infrastructure, and the adequate level of community education. The main stakeholders who had the control should be hold by the government (local government), law enforcers and the community. Preferred objectives should be to reduce the pollution and to restore the ecosystem.  The ideal strategy for mercury pollution control from the gold mining process become successful and sustainable are super minor technology that uses the density without adding hazardous and toxic materials.

Abstract

The observation of smoke because of land and forest fires in some regions in Indonesia mostly use the composite image visually. This study aims to develop the detection model of forest and land fire smoke using a digital analysis, which will be faster in supporting spatial information on emergency response in monitoring forest and land fire smoke. The method used is multi-threshold method and compare it with the existing model that is by modification of method Li et al. (2015). The data used is Suomi NPP-VIIRS satellite imagery. The results concluded that the VIIRS image can be used to detect the smoke and smoke distribution of forest fire and digital smoke. The multi-threshold model uses reflectance data obtained from the M4 visible channel, and the brightness temperature data obtained from the LWIR VIIRS M14 channel, with an average accuracy of 82.2% with a Commision error of 9.8% and an Ommision error of 10%. While the model of modification Li is based only on reflectance of visible-channel data i.e. channel M1, M2, M3, and SWIR VIIRS M11 channel, which has an average accuracy of 72.3% with a Commision error of 0.3% and an Ommision error of 27.4%. The multi-threshold model is a model that has the potential to be applied to detect forest and land fire smoke.

Abstract

The application of remote sensing using Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) technology to identify distribution of Acid Mine Drainage (AMD) as part of mitigation process has been done in PT. Jorong Barutama Greston. UAV imagery was interpreted visually to produce land cover map. Bare land area from land cover map is used as the boundary of the analysis area for the mitigation of AMD source. Color of soil in UAV images is used as training area for supervised classification to differentiate different pH. The result shows distribution of soil with pH between 2-3 is 1.2 ha, pH 3-4 is 4.5 ha, and pH 4-5 is 9 ha. This analysis can show that mapping results using aerial photo is effective to identify pH of soil in bare land as a source of acid to water in void and it used as input for revegetation and swamp forest planning as bio-phytoremediation efforts. Swamp forest as a wetland is one recomendation for sustainable water management on mine to increase pH and reduce heavy metal content. The success of constructed swamp forest as passive treatment for bio-phytoremediation is determined by the selection of plant species, site location, design and construction of swamp forest and maintenance. Typha latifolia, Salvinia sp., Fimbristylis globulosa, Chrysopogon zizanioides, Melaleuca leucadendra, Melaleuca cajuputi, Nauclea subdita and Nauclea orientalis L. are recom-mended as local selected plants for phytoremediation. Obtained six variables that significantly affected to determination of site location for constructed swamp forest are elevation (T), slope (S), land cover (L), cathment area (C), distance from channel (K) and distance from the monitoring pool (P). The model X = 0.2T + 0.2S + 0.1L + 0.15C + 0.3K + 0.05P applied to find very suit-able area with α = 0.05 and the R-square (R2) value 93.4%.

Abstract

Land conversion is one of the consequences of population growth. Bogor as a buffer zone of the capital city and Bekasi, Depok, Tangerang has significant increase number of developed land. The urban sprawl drove land use change from farmland, paddy fields, and forest area. This study tries to identify livelihood assets and livelihood structures and to analyse the socioeconomic vulnerability index of farm households as a result of land conversion in Cibungbulang Sub-district, Bogor Regency. The research focused on two villages, Cemplang and Situ Udik. We surveyed 35 households from each village to collect data on various vulnerability domains and 27 socioeconomic indicators. We built and weighted these indicators base on local stakeholders, farmers, prior researches and literature studies. The research results showed that both villages are moderate in vulnerability and are still able to deal with the existing shocks. SeVI of Cemplang is 0.51 and Situ Udik’s 0.37. There are five livelihood assets used by respondents to survive; human capital, economic, social, physical and financial.
