Abstract

The nature of caring and nurturing that shown by women makes them tend to care about the wildlife.Women are able to play a role in the captivity birds because related to household activity of caring. The study aims to identify the profile of the captive breeding and the women who are involved. The data obtained from 90 respondent by interview and observation. The respondents, which are the captive breeding in the area of Bogor and Klaten that accommodate protected species of birds, were determined by using a purposive sampling method. Based on the result, both captive breedings in Klaten and Bogor have involved women in the middle scale as well as in the household scale. Most women who are involved in the activities of captive breeding of the birds are in the age between 31 and 40 years with high school degree as their highest educational background and married women. In Bogor and the middle scale of captive breeding in Klaten, economic improvement is the sole motivation that has driven the women to be involved in the captive breeding activities. While, in the household scale in Klaten there are two motivations, which are economy and spare time.

Abstract

Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi is a phylum of Glomeromycota. Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) propagule are spores, mycor-rhizal fungal hyphae and infected root fragments. The aims of this research were to analyze the effectivity of root inoculum of AMF to enhance teak (Tectona grandis Linn F.) seedling growth. The research was used complete randomized design (CRD)-split plot design. The main plot was root inoculum of AMF, sub plot is a media sterilization and media is not sterilized. The results showed that root inoculum of AMF and media effectively improved teak growth, especially in height, diameter, and shoot dry weight. Root inoculum of AMF is able to be used as the source of inoculum for the growth teak seedling. Fresh inoculum was found to be better than root inoculum stored at room temperature and root inoculum stored at refrigerator temperature (5°C). Storage of root inocu-lum at room temperature and refrigerator temperature (5°C) for two weeks decreased the effectiveness of inoculum. Type of mixed inoculum and inoculum of Acaulospora sp. root resulted in better growth compared with G. clarum root inoculum.

Abstract

Tarsius lariang, also called tangkasi is one of the endemic animals which is found in Lore Lindu National Park (LLNP). The threat to the tarsius population are the limitation of the distribution area, the escalation of forests exploitation, and hunting. People around the forest tend to think the tangkasi as a pest which eats cultivated plants. Therefore, population and habitat research is important. The purpose of this study is to estimate the demographic parameters and identify the characteristics of the habitat of the tangkasi, so that it can be known that the habitat component is important for the existence of the tangkasi in LLNP. The results of this study indicate the density of individual tangkasi across the LLNP region is 95.55 individuals per km². Individual density on Primary Dryland Forest Cover (PDFC) was 80.21 individuals per km² and in Dryland Secondary Forest (DSF) cover was 218.29 individuals per km², which still in normal level. The population density of tangkasi groups in the LLNP area is 35 groups per km², for the PDFC 32 and for the DSF of 54 groups per km². The total population of tangkasi based on age structure located in the research area of LLNP, PDFC, and DSF shows that the age of the juvenile is very low compared to the sub-adult age classes. It shows that tangkasi population is decreasing (regressive population). The preferred habitat of the tangkasi is the type of Dryland Secondary Forest (SDF) with a very steep slope of < 45% and altitude between 1301 and 1800 m asl.

Abstract

Increasing of economic development is generally followed by the change of landuse from agriculture to other function. If it occurs in large frequency and amount, it will threaten national food security. Therefore, it is necessary to monitor the agricultural land, especially paddy fields regarding to changes in landuse and global climate. Utilization and development of satellite technology is necessary to provide more accurate and independent database for agricultural land monitoring, especially paddy fields. This study aims to develop a utilization model for LAPAN-IPB satellite (LISAT) and other several satellites data that have been used for paddy field monitoring. This research is conducted through 2 stages: 1) Characterization LISAT satellite data to know spectral variation of paddy field, and 2) Development method of LISAT data fusion with other satellites for paddy field mapping. Based on the research results, the characteristics Red and NIR band in LISAT data imagery have a good correlation with Red and NIR band in LANDSAT 8 OLI data imagery, especially to detect paddy field in the vegetative phase, compared to other bands. Observation and measurement of spectral values using spectroradiometer need to be conducted periodically (starting from first planting season) to know the dynamics of the change related to the growth phase of paddy in paddy field. Pre-processing of image data needs to be conducted to obtain better LISAT data characterization results. Furthermore, it is necessary to develop appropriate algorithms or methods for geometric correction as well as atmospheric correction of LISAT data.

Abstract

In general, natural resources capable of generating foreign exchange, such as: gas, petroleum and various other minerals are found in locations that have high productivity. Conditions of waters that have high productivity serves to support the sustainability of biological resources (e.g.: fish, mangroves, seagrass beds, seaweed and coral reefs). The government in this case the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (formerly the Ministry of the Environment) actually has made the signs of a rule that must be met by business actors who conduct activities in sensitive areas to environmental changes. PT. Total E & P Indonesia (TEPI) located in Balikpapan has long been engaged in exploration and exploitation of oil and gas in the Mahakam Delta. The large flow of branches of the Mahakam River empties into the Mahakam Delta provides a promising business opportunity for the farmers to open their business. While TEPI has oil wells are scattered in the delta area, pipelines are needed to collect the oil from the wells to the processing site. Because of the large number of streams causing many oil and gas pipes to cross the river (river cross pipes) that require special handling and meet the standards of technical rules and environment set by the government to be safe from passing boats or fishing boats that pass at the location. This study was conducted to predict the extent of exposed areas of exposure, especially the TSS concentration generated from the dredging activities in the pipeline. The simulation results show that the area of impact (TSS> 80 mg / L) is 74275.13 m2 dominantly moving westward from the dredging location (RC-06 = River Crossing Pipe No. 6). The farthest distance of the affected river body (TSS> 80 mg / L) to the west is 557.00 m from RC-06. The farthest distance of the affected river body (TSS> 80 mg / L) to the northeast is 240.81 m from RC-06. The farthest distance of the affected river body (TSS> 80 mg / L) to the southeast is 216.98 m from the RC-06 location. There is no water mass with TSS> 80 mg / L entering the pond. Sedimentation due to dredging activities is not accumulated and has no impact on shrimp farming business. The results of this study is expected to make a scientific basis in helping solve the problem of compensation requested by the farmers to TEPI due to decreased tambak production.

Abstract

Indonesia is rich with volcanic tuff-derived Andisols that contain variable charged minerals. This research was aimed at to extract nanoclays (diameter <200 nm) from volcanic tuffs, and to evaluate their potential as natural adsorbent of phosphate as contaminant in waters. Volcanic tuffs were taken from the 3rd (tv3) and 4th(tv4) layers of an Andisol profile at the foot slope of Salak Mountain Indonesia using dispersion-ultrasonication-centrifugation-dialysis separation procedure. By dispersing the materials in an acid condition (pH 4.0) followed with ultrasonication, it could be separated positively-charged nanoclays (nc3 and nc4) from the negative ones. The separated nanoclays were then purified using centrifugation and membrane dialysis techniques. Potential of the extracted nanoclays as natural phosphate adsorbent was evaluated by characterizing their adsorption maxima (b values) according to the Langmuir isothermal adsorption model. It could be extracted 2.82 mg nc3/g tv3 and 4.29 mg nc4/g tv4. The b values of nc3 at 12, 24, and 48 hours equilibration time (76.48, 92.10, and 117.54 mg P/g nc3) were higher than those of nc4 (50.17, 59.52, and 71.99 mg P/g nc4). The most effective equilibration-time was 48 hours. The extracted nanoclays were considered prospective as natural adsorbent for removal phosphate contaminant in waters

Abstract

Abstract.Growth Textile industry from year to year demands high creativity both design and color. The process production of textile industry especially dyeing can not separated from the use of clean water and high wastewater pollutant produced. With Zero Water Discharge principle, the industry is expected to reduce the amount of waste discharged into the environment. There are many water, and wastewater recycling technology processes. However, in Indonesia conventional wastewater processing is still widely encountered, limited to aerobic and anaerobic active sludge processes, chemical coagulation - flocculation processes, as well as activated carbon - filtration processes. This study examined the process of wastewater recycling in the management of bio-chemical waste and using activated carbon aplication for post treatment. This recycling process could improve process efficiency and saved production costs. Carbon active process decreased COD contamination up to 96%, with contact time 20 minutes. The study and research of potential wastewater recycling on conventional bio-chemical-carbon active processing expected to be an inspiration for industries, and the public to do waste water recycling.

Abstract

Sheoak (Casuarina equisetifolia L) is a species of monotypic taxa that has grown naturally in coastal Bengkulu Province. However, the various dynamics occurring in the coastal areas have disrupted the habitat of this species, affecting the structure and composi-tion of the vegetation. This research aims to analyze the structure and composition of vegetation in sheoak habitat in three conser-vation areas. The vegetation data was collected by line transect plot method. The analysis shows that sheoak stands form an invert-ed curve J in three conservation areas although they were not perfect due to the low density of poles which can be caused by dis-turbances that come from nature and human activity. Vegetation composition in sheoak habitat was composed by 36 species of 27 plant families consisting of shrubs and trees. Sheoak dominated the three areas only at the rate of tree growth while the growth rates of seedlings, saplings and poles were dominated by nyamplung (Calophyllum inophyllum) so the dominance of sheoak can be replaced with nyamplung. Sheoak also supported better habitat for other plant species to grow that showed diversity index value 1.4 to 1.9.
