Abstract

Activated carbon can be made from a variety of organic and inorganic raw materials. One of the organic materials with great potential in the manufacture of activated carbon is the bark of salak wedi(Salacca Zalacca). The purpose of this study was to determine the physical characteristics of the activated carbon of salak wedi peel which has been chemically activated using KOH and ZnCl2 with the process of being activated once using only KOH or ZnCl2 and multilevel activation using a combination of KOH and ZnCl2 to determine the number of pores in the sample and to determine the presence of a crystal structure in the sample. The research method includes sample making, single and multilevel activation processes, then SEM and XRD tests are carried out. The results of SEM with multilevel activation have more pores than the activated carbon sample of bark once. The SEM results obtained that the multilevel activation has a larger number of pores compared to the activation which is only carried out once, with the result that the largest pore volume with the stratified activator Carbon KOH + ZnCl2 (s) is 35,976,798,714 nm3. The XRD analysis indicated that activated carbon from the bark of salak wedi is a material with good conductivity properties because it has a relatively high crystalline structure, both on one-time activation and multilevel activation. Time using KOH activator obtained phase crystalline with the most significant percentage if compared with another activation.

Abstract

The demand for efficient distribution of oxygen cylinders at Abepura Regional General Hospital (RSUD Abepura) has been steadily increasing due to the growing needs of staff members and patients who expect high-quality service within the hospital premises. In response to this demand, this study aims to propose a transportation system that is not only automated but also time-saving, with the ultimate goal of enhancing medical services in a more efficient, eco-friendly, and safe manner. One of the main challenges faced in the distribution process is the hilly terrain surrounding RSUD Abepura. The presence of these hills makes it difficult to manually distribute the heavy 72 kg gas cylinders, which is the current method employed at the hospital. To overcome this challenge, this research suggests implementing an innovative solution—an electric trolley—that can effectively facilitate the distribution and flow of oxygen cylinders at RSUD Abepura. The findings of this study conclusively demonstrate that the electric trolley is not only a suitable but also a convenient solution for the operators and medical staff involved in the distribution process. By utilizing the electric trolley, they can distribute oxygen cylinders without facing any hindrances posed by the uphill roads, ultimately resulting in significantly improved time efficiency and service effectiveness at RSUD Abepura.

Abstract

A novel approach was employed to develop alternative fuels by blending pyro-oil from used plastic with graphene, which acted as a combustion additive. The biofuels were produced through pyrolysis of high-density polyethylene (HDPE). When evaluating the fuel blends, the fuel properties were analyzed and compared to commercially available diesel fuel, while Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectrometry was employed to know the fuel character. The findings demonstrate that including graphene as a combustion additive significantly enhances the Fuel's performance. The phenomena suggest that graphene effectively weakens the dispersion forces among the triglyceride molecules. Consequently, the droplet is easier to burn. By incorporating graphene, the alternative fuels droplet exhibits improved ignition properties, offering potential benefits in terms of efficiency and performance. The additive plays a crucial part in modifying the molecular structure of the Fuel, resulting in enhanced reactivity and ignition characteristics. Furthermore, the analysis of physical properties and spectroscopic data provides valuable insights into alternative fuels' molecular composition and behavior.

Abstract

Experimental investigations were conducted to assess the impact of an adjuster on the heating efficiency and flame stability of sago waste briquettes. The adjuster was introduced to maintain a consistent burning distance, thereby enhancing the combustion heat of the fuel. Infrared thermometry was employed to monitor the temperature evolution within the briquette and the combustion load, represented by water in a pan. The findings demonstrate that adding an effective adjuster significantly improves the performance of both the briquettes and the stove, resulting in enhanced effectiveness and efficiency. This is evident from the observed increase in combustion temperature and faster boiling time of the water. The consistent burning distance ensures a stable and uniform heat supply to the briquettes, facilitating more efficient fuel utilization as all parts of the fuel can undergo complete combustion and transfer heat to the pan. Molecular analysis reveals that the stability of the burning distance weakens the Van der Waals bonds within the carbon chain, thereby increasing the reactivity of the fuel molecules. Consequently, the fuel exhibits improved heat absorption capability and becomes highly combustible.

Abstract

Ships are a mode of transportation that is often used by the community as a link between the islands. People generally use the ferry as a mode of crossing in addition to the economical price but also comfort is still preferred. But in recent years, researchers have often heard cases of shipwrecks. Especially ship crossing accidents caused by overturned ships. Based on this, prevention is needed to reduce the number of ship accidents in the future. One of the keys that can be taken is to improve the technical analysis before the ship is designed. One such analysis related to the ship is seakeeping ship. The method used in this study is to use strip – theory method through OSM program. This method is one of the commonly used methods because it calculates the 3D model into 2D. The results showed the effect of the use of Bilge keel on the ferry Ro-Ro tested with conditions x0, x1, x2, and x3 on the condition of the stationary ship with a wave height of 1,5 m and heading 90o. The addition of Bilge keel is able to reduce the resonance of roll motion up to 58% in conditions of variation x1, 61% in variation x2, and 67% in conditions of variation x2. Therefore, the installation of bilge keel has a significant effect on the rolling of ferry Ro-Ro.
