Abstract

Wild plants vegetation in Merauke area as the main ingredient of botanical pesticides showed that utilization of organism considered as unuseful even as weeds can be utilized as pesticides. Asteraceae is one of the families that has species with antimicrobe contents which potential for botanical pesticides. The study was held in Merauke, and Semangga Districts from August to November 2016. The research method is quantitative. The identification used non-destructive measures, based on plant organism reviews taxonomically. Determination of sample plots used quadrat sampling technique with vegetation analysis. The result showed 16 species of wild plants in the Asteraceae family which have potential as botanical pesticides in Merauke regency. The dominant species with the highest density, frequency of attendance and leaf canopy closure are the species which have high possibility to utilize as botanical pesticides. They are Bidens pilosa dan Vernonia cinerea in Merauke district, with Summed Dominance Ratio sequentially 0,341 and 0,189.  Ageratum conyzoides dan Vernonia cinerea in Semangga district dengan Summed Dominance Ratio sequentially 0,236 dan 0,202.

Abstract

Forage availability become a major issue in the provision of feed, especially during the dry season. The purpose of this study is to identify the type of vegetation in the grazing fields that have been used by people in the village of Sota. The data were taken from the area around the used rice field in the village of Sota. The forage classified as grass, legume and forbs. The method applied in the research by observing the botanical composition there at several observation points. The forage was taken as the sample, then calculated the production and analyzed the content of dry material. The results showed that the vegetation found in the used rice fields in the village of Sota, there are 33 vegetation, consisting of legume, grass and forbs 3, 61 and 36%. Vegetation types most commonly found are Fimbristylis genus, Paspalum and species of Calopogonium mucunoides the SDR value of 9.88; 9.3 and 9.74%. Composite dry matter production of 757.62 kg /ha with measuring capacity 1,68 AU

Abstract

This study aims to determine and analyze the feasibility and profitability of palm sugar production in Kumbe village, Malind district, Merauke regency. This research conducted for two months, from May to June 2016. The sample using cencus technique. All the population of palm sugar production become respondent. The analysis data used benefit and cost ratio in palm sugar production by using quantitative and qualitative data. This technique using data of costs, benefits and feasibility of palm sugar. The result showed that total average revenue is Rp. 28,521,000.00 and total average cost is Rp. 40,950,473.21, so the total average profit is Rp. 48,570,526.79. Palm sugar production in Kumbe village feasible become a unit business, with rasio R/C 2.19. It is means that every Rp. 1,00 will provide the benefits  2.19 times the costs incurred.

Abstract

Nature Park Sorong (NPS) is one area of lowland tropical rain forest which has the characteristics of flora, fauna and natural scenery appealing as a potential major natural ecotourism. NPS natural landscape characteristics could be nature and artificial landscape such as: view of the river, view forestry, breeding and others. While the flora and fauna is quite diverse, and there are some endemic species. In its management regarding the promotion of natural tourism resources, the potential of this region is unknown as natural tourist area, so need early concepts as alternative development based on the characteristics of potential. Some initial alternative for nature tourism development in NPS seen by the characteristics of natural tourism potential and opportunities activities, required facilities and condition of forest communities and forest management.

Abstract

Coastal area of Payum as an areaof mangrove forest located at western of Merauke Regency. Known as area which produce a high amount of organic matters, whether comes from mangrove area itself, stream or even by sea currents. They’re so much living organism associated with mangrove, one of them is gastropods. Sample was collected using transect quadran methods. The quadran size 5 x 5 m and the gastropods were collected as well as the sediment and sea water to measure the organic matter content. At that time the environments parameters also collected such as temperature, salinity and pH. The research result were successful identified 13 species of gastropods, like Cassidula angulifera, Littoraria scabra, Terebralia sulcata, Cerithidea obtusa, Neripteron violaceum, Indothais rufotincta, Nassasius unicolor, Tanea lineata, Nerita balteata, Turritella terebra, Glossaulax bicolor, Mitra sp. and Telescopium telescopium. Furthermore, the sediment analisys showed strong correlation      (60 % ) with the existence of gastropoda, reverse with sea water analisys which is had weak correlation around 10% of correlation value. Evenness index was high and followed by low of dominance index. Diversity index were high in stasiun I and II. Moreover, the density and frequency relative of gastropod spesies in every stasiun was dominate by Littoraria scabra.

Abstract

Groundwater wells (sulfuric water) in Merauke is potentially high even in dry season. However, the high element of sulfur (S) in a plant can cause potion even death. The research is to determine the ability of lettuce (Pistia stratiotes) as a media of phytoremediation to decrease sulfur with an aeration treatment to fulfill the agricultural requirement. The treatment methods are closure surface of sulfuric acid with the lettuce. The treatments are namely without a closure, 25% closure, 50% closure, and 100% closure, where each treatment are using an aerator. The study is divided for into two stages. There are the early stage research (acclimatization) and the main research. Analysis of data includes the time and the corelation graph. On acclimatization stage, it was found that the concentration of SO4 was declining at 216 hours. The 50% of closure treatment showed that the lowest concentration of SO4 was at 81 mg /l. All of the treatments showed that the concentrations  of  H2S were declined on 48 hours on the main research. There were caused by the aerator that brings an oxidation process within the aeration. H2S oxidation produces SO4, so that the concentration of SO4 on control and all treatment have increased until the observation in 240 hours. From these results it can be concluded that the Pistia stratiotes is not required as phytoremediation agent in improved the water quality of sulfur. The award of oxygen (aeration) have been effective in reducing the concentration of S in the sulfur water to match the quality of agricultural water.

Abstract

Toxicity test is useful tools to determine the level of toxicity from a substance or pollutant.  It also used for routine monitoring of a waste water. This study was conducted from August to September 2016 in Laboratory of Aquaculture, University of Almuslim. The aims of this study were to (1) determine the LC50 value of palm oil mill effluent on Tilapia and milkfish, (2) To describe the impact of palm oil mill effluent on tilapia and milkfish behavior. Tilapia used has weight range of 9-10 g and a length of 7-9 cm, meanwhile milkfish used has a weight range of 9-10 g and a length of 11-13 cm. Fish mortality was observed at 12, 24, 48, 72 and 96 hours. Concentrations of palm oil mill effluent used to acute toxicityof tilapia was 4,517 mg/L, 6,801 mg/L, 10,239 mg/L and 15,414 mg/L, meanwhile concentrations of palm oil mill effluent used to Acute toxicity of  milkfish was 6,915 mg/L, 9,563 mg/L, 13,225 mg/L and 18,289 mg/L, respectively. LC50-96 hours of palm oil mill effluent on Tilapia was 15,65 mg/L, whereas for fish milkfish was 14,16 mg/L. Palm oil mill effluent gave negative influence on behavior for both of test fish. The negative effects shown namely slow activity gestures and movements of gill operculum, movement without direction and  an excessive amount of mucus on fish skin surface
