Abstract

This research is aimed to increase critically thinking ability of the seven-year-students (class A) of SMP Negeri 4 Madiun through the application of Problem-Based Instruction Model. It is a classroom action research with two cycles. The subject of the study is the seven-year-students (class A) of SMP Negeri 4 Madiun in the academic year 2015-2016. The number of the subject is 30 students. The results of the research show that the average score for instructional activity is 2.66 in cicle (1), which is categorized as good and 3.48 in cicle (2) which is categorized as very good. It means that the researcher’s ability in the application of  Problem-Based Instruction Model is increasing and already reaches the determined success indicator. While, the critically thinking ability ofthe students is not increasing yet with average score 37.9 in cicle (1) and 75.69 in cicle (2). Further, the percentage of the class completion is 17.39 in cilce (1) and 56.52 in cilcle (2). It indicates that the students’ average score in the test  and the percentage of the completion are increasing, but do not yet reach the determined criteria. The Problem-Based Instruction Model is capable of increasing the critically thinking ability of the students; however, the increase is not optimum. Abstract

This research is aimed to describe the level of divergent reasoning through Open Ended model for the student of VII-B SMPN 4 Madiun. Divergent reasoning is basically one of the student`s abilities that plays a significant role in mathematics. Due to the development of divergent reasoning, hence, it needs the appropriate approach – open ended approach. The use of implementation cycles (Hopkins) in this research is indispensible. In this case, implementation cycles consists of rearranging, planning, observation, reflection, and re-planning. The data in this research consist of two factors, namely, the students` divergent reasoning and the teacher`s ability in applying Open Ended. Furthermore, data are taken through the test model. Thus, the application of observation model is used to measure the teacher`s ability in applying Open Ended. Besides, in order to measure the level of divergent reasoning, the teacher provides an essay. Moreover, the essay here adheres to some indicators – think smoothly, think flexibly, and think creatively. Furthermore, the observation method is used to gain the accurate data that proves the teacher`s ability in teaching. Hence, field research is applied as the technique of data collecting. At last, the data analysis proves that the Open Ended is not sufficient to increase the students` divergent reasoning by depending on only two cycles. Key Words : Open Ended, Divergent Thingking

Abstract

This research aims is to increase the need of achievement together with the learning outcome for the students of the first grade of SMPN 4 Madiun using cooperative team game tournaments. Moreover, the use of Classroom Action Research (CAR) is indispensible. This research is done by applying  2 cycles as well. The subject of this research is the students of VII-H, in SMPN 4 Madiun, in the school year of 2015/2016. Moreover, the students who get involved in this research consists of 22 students. The data analysis shows that:The pecentage of minimal students in the high motivation achievement category of pre-action research cIass is 18,18%, the first cycle is 22,73% and the second cycle is 63,64%. The completion rate score due to Pre-CAR: 18,18%, cycle I: 22,73 %, and cycle II: 68,18%. The average score during the learning activity in cycle I is 3,06 which is classified as “good”. While, in cycle II the average score during the learning activity is 3,57. Which is classified as “good”. Teams Games Tournaments is considered as the effective way in ascending the need to achievement together with the students learning outcome. Abstract

The goals of the research are to improve students’ ability in oral and written mathematic comunication by applying cooperative learning model of type think-pair-share in the class X-B of Santo Bonaventura Senior High School of Madiun. It is a class action research with two cycles; each of which has four steps namely, planning, action, observation, and reflection. The instrument of the research is observation sheets used to observe students’ oral mathematic communication ability and written mathematic communication ability using test sheets. The result of the data analysis shows (1) the average score of learning and teaching activity is 2,64 (good) in the first cycle and 3,47 in the second cycle (very good), (2) the average score of students’ oral mathematic communication ability is 2,19 (fair) in the first cycle, and 2,87 (good) in the second cycle, (3) the class average score is 63,30 in the first cycle and 69,87 in the second cycle. The persentage of students’ passing score is 56,52% in the first cycle and 68,18% in the second cycle. Based on the findings of the research, it can be concluded that the application of cooperative learning model of type think-pair-share can improve students’ oral mathematic communication ability but their written mathematic communication ability is not optimal.   Keyword: Mathematical Communication, Cooperative Learning, Think Pair Share

Abstract

The goals of the research are to improve students’ activity in asking question and to improve the mathematics learning by applying peer tutor cooperative learning. The subject of the research was 24 student of class VII F SMP Negeri 9 Madiun. While the object of the research were the students’ attempts to ask question and the students’ a chievement in learning mathematics. Class-action research was opplied two cyclical times in which a cyclical time consisted of two meeting. The result of class-action research shows that the use of peer tutor cooperative learning increases of cycle 1 to cycle 2. The total average score of the first learning process is 3,28 and the second learning process is 3,33. The observation of students’ inquiry increases from cycle 1 to cycle 2. The percentage of the students’ inquiry for cycle 1 is 47,05 and the second one is 57,39. The accomplished percentage for cycle 1 is 9,09% and for cycle 2 is 30,43%. The result does not show the indicator of accomplishment so that we need another cycle to improve it. Based on the data we can conclude that there is improvement on learning process, students’ inquiry and students’ achievement in mathematics learning from cycle 1 to cycle 2. Peer tutor cooperative learning has not proven the students’ inquiry and the students achievements for class VII F SMP Negeri 9 Madiun. Abstract

This research is conducted due to the problem which is related to the students` inability in mathematical reasoning. Furthermore, the use of problem based learning is considered as one of the tools used to develop the students` mathematical reasoning. The method used in this research is Classroom Action Research (CAR). This method consists of four stages : planning, implementing, observing, and evaluating. This research is aimed to increase students` ability - mathematical reasoning by applying Problem Based Learning model to the students of the first grade of SMA Katolik Santo Bonaventura Madiun that consists of 23 students. This research was conducted in two cycles in which each of the cycle consisted of two meetings.. The data analysis shows that : The average score test in the cycle I : 51,2 and cycle II : 56,. The class completion rate cycle I : 30,43% and cycle II : 47,62%. The average total score which is taken from the data of learning activity in cycle I is 2,92. Hence, it is classified as a good result. Moreover, the average total score in cycle II is 3,36. Thus, it is classified as excellent result. Problem Based Learning (PBL) is considered as the best way to increase the students` mathematical reasoning. Unfortunately, PBL cannot gain a maximum outcome by only depending on II cycles.Key words: Mathematical Reasoning Ability, Problem Based Learning

Abstract

The aim of learning ideally is to lead the student in comprehending the given materials. In terms of students` capabilities, the students nowadays tend to have a very low capability which is actually caused by their lack of knowledge in problem solving. Hence, this is supported by their dependency to their teacher in doing the exercises. In other words, they cannot do their exercises without their teacher`s help. Besides, the way how the teacher limits the student`s creativity in comprehending such an exercise is considered as one of factors that decrease the students` critical review. Therefore, it needs a certain model that stimulates student to observe a particular knowledge in learning. Thus, the appropriate model in this case is inquiry model. This research is intended to increase the students` critical review by applying inquiry model. Furthermore, Classroom Action Research (CAR) is applied in this research. Moreover, this kind of research is materialized by two cycles. Furthermore, CAR consists of observing, planning and evaluating.  The subject of the research is the student of VII-J (first grade of Junior High School) of SMPN 4 Madiun. The total population is 30 students. The analysis is presented as the following : 1. The average score test in Cycle I is 67,5, Cycle II : 83,34. Moreover, the class completion rate in cycle I is 56,66%, Cycle II : 82,75%. This proves that the students` critical review in writing is increased.2. The average score test through the learning activity in Cycle I is 3,1225. In this case, the cycle I is classified as a good category. While the cycle II the total score reaches 3,435. In this case, the cycle II is classified as an excellent category. The result shows that the teacher`s ability in applying inquiry model learning is improved.3. The inquiry model learning is considered as the best way to increase the students` critical review. Key word : Students` Critical Review, inquiry model learning

Abstract

This research is intended to develop students` activity and achievement in learning, especially for the students of VII C SMPN 4 Madiun by applying Cooperative Think-Talk-Write Model. In this case, learning activity consists of reading (which refers to think), discussing (which refers to talk) and writing (which refers to write). This research applies Classroom Action Research. The subject of this research is the students of the first grade of junior high school (VII C) in SMPN 4, in the school year of 20015/2016. The class population consists of 30 students. The data analysis shows that the percentage of learning activity in Cycle I is 22,22%. Moreover, the analysis proves that: (I) the percentage of learning activity in mathematics in Cycle I is 5,56%. Furthermore, the percentage of learning activity in mathematics in Cycle II increases significantly. Hence it gains 47,62%,  however the standard completion in two Cycles has not been achieved yet. In short, the use of Cooperative Think-Talk-Write Model is able to increase the students` learning activity for the students of VII C SMPN 4 Madiun. (2) The class completion rate in Cycle I is 10%, and it gradually increases in Cycle II : 69,23 %. Yet, the standard indicator has not been gained. Therefore, the use of Cooperative Think-Talk-Write Model in this case is unable to increase the students` learning activity, especially in Mathematics.   Key Words :Learning Activity, Students` Achievement, Cooperative Think-Talk-Write Model
