Abstract

This study uses a literature review to explain the characteristics and patterns of fishing villages. In some literature, it is known that a pattern of Fishermen's villages arises because of the same behavior pattern, the majority of which depend on income from fishing. Many studies explain that fishermen make the Sea a dominant factor in earning income, but seasonal fishermen work causes fishermen to have alternative income from other sectors, whether or not related to the sea. The culture of the fishermen provides a characteristic for the form of single occupancy and in the village scale, in several studies showing the form of single occupancy of fishermen reflects a need, and adaptation to nature as a form of disaster response. Single occupancy of fisherman has the characteristic of a veranda that functions as a family gathering place or as a place to repair nets and warehouses that serve to store equipment. The characteristic sediment in the village scale, the Fishermen's village is oriented to the sea, and in the village facilities are the availability of boat berths for ship stops, as well as the availability of Tempat Pelelangan Ikan (TPI) to facilitate the sale and purchase transactions of the sea. Other supporting factors that support village life are infrastructure and public facilities, infrastructure related to roads, drainage, clean water and electricity, while public facilities consist of schools and places of worship. The linkages between village components make an identity of a fisherman village.

Abstract

The courtyard existance that has been recommended in some publication may need to be promoted and hence prioritized on every Rumah sederhana Sehat (RsS) development. In order to support the courtyard promotion initiative, evidence based on research into RsS courtyards’ characteristic that inform the maintenance of optimal indoor thermal comfort, needs to be acquired. This paper examines the issue of the RsS courtyard’s position as one of the factors that is effective in both establishing and maintaining each house’s indoor thermal comfort. The research is conducted with Ansys 14.5 Fluid CFD simulation. The unit model itself is a 9 x 9 m2 unit house. A 3 x 3 m2 courtyard, in 9 different placements, is tested for its effectiveness in maintaining the RsS model’s indoor thermal comfort. Based on the results and the discussion, it can be concluded that there are 5 courtyard positions that provide the RsS houses and their residents with comfortable indoor temperatures. Therefore, these five positional options can be proposed as viable courtyard placements, especially the two positions that show superior performance to the other three acceptable courtyard locations.

Abstract

Traditional buildings in Indonesia consist of various types and expressions, with one common thread, namely that each building has the same belief in the big world and the small world. This belief is represented in the building as the head (top), body (center) and feet (bottom) as a part of the building. In the common spatial relationship, the building's central space as the center point, the balance point between the upper and lower rooms as well as the decotomic part around them. This paper aims to describes local wisdom that is manifested in buildings as a form of expression of community trust in responding to situations and conditions of the natural environment and local climate. The content analysis method was carried out to study the influence of different tropical climate types in the western and eastern parts of Indonesia. The results of the analysis show that the influence of tropical humid climate types in the western and eastern parts of Indonesia on buildings is distinguished by the expression of the shape of the roof, walls and floors. Buildings in the western part of Indonesia are affected by a humid tropical climate with more rainfall and higher humidity than in the eastern part of Indonesia.

Abstract

Society lives in a place called settlement. Peasants are one of community which live in settlement specifically in rural settlement due to the wider area for cultivating land. The main characteristic of the peasant is the independence in providing their own food source. Instead of buying from market, peasants will provide food source needs from their subsistence farming. Hence, peasants tend to live casually and cultivate in household scale. Peasants have adjustments and adapt to the particular form of settlement in rural area. One of settlement form is when they have two types of house: the main house and the temporary house. The temporary house tends to be built close to the field and occupied during fertile season. This type of house can be catagorized as seasonal settlement and is an adaptation of peasant’s life in term of economy, environment, and social organization
