Abstract

This study aims to describe the literary form of language variationcontained in the show Kick Andy episode, “Learn to Death”. The method used isdescriptive qualitative. Provision of data is done by methods refer to listen andunderstand the data linguistic oral form of data in the data source view KickAndy.The technique is a recording and log techniques. The analysis of data usinga unified method. The research result describe that form of language variation inthis show consists of variations in terms of formality, speakers, use, and means.1) The variation in terms of formality using a variety offamiliar, 2) variationsBetawiand Batak dialect speakers are used, 3) variations in the use of more useof registers in the field of education, 4) Variation means used in this show is avariation of oral.

Abstract

This study aims to discover the theme of popular physics book, The GrandDesign, through corpus linguistics and discourse analysis as well as how theauthors of the book describe the field of study which in fact is not their mainfocus to work on. In this case, the authors are physicists and cosmologists whoattempt to use quantum to interpret the history if the universe. There were twoterms, quantum and cosmology, which would be examined to gain the number ofappearance in the book. A computer-based corpus software, AntConc v 3.4.3w andchi square test were employed to gain the hit numbers and the significant value ofthe possible different number appeared. This result would answer the question ofwhat the theme of the book is. The procedure of corpus analysis, which raw textis directly analyzed, was used along with collocation and concordance analysis.After the data was gained from collocation and concordance analysis, discourseanalysis was applied to obtain the profound findings of how the authors asserttheir opinion of quantum in the study of the cosmology. This paper resulted thatquantum has more hit numbers than cosmology. In addition, it was found thatthe theory proposed in this book was quite inadequate in a certain circumstance.

Abstract

Government has launched the 2013 curriculum four years ago. It becomesone of interests to be investigated. Pros and cons have been raised toward thisnew implemented curriculum. In 2014, a revision of the 2013 curriculum coursebook entitled “When English Rings the Bell” had been done. A content analysisstudy is needed toward the implementation of the 2013 curriculum for the sake ofmaterial development. This study aims to investigate whether or not the revisedof the 2013 curriculum course book entitled “When English Rings a Bell” is inline with the theory of scientific approach. This study used qualitative descriptivemethod to describe the results.

Abstract

This study is aimed at comparing the form of request utterances in bahasaIndonesia produced by Korean learners of Indonesian with the native speakers.Data in this research were collected through a direct fieldwork by recordingand taking notes on conversations produced by Korean learners of Indonesianin Yogyakarta. After collecting the data, we analyze them through comparisonof the data between the Korean and Indonesian speakers. It turns out thatthe Korean learners of Indonesian produce different request utterance formscompared to the native speakers. The patterns of the request utterances can beseen in three different forms: the structure, the variation, and the strategy of theutterances. The difference between utterances produced by the learners and thenative speakers found in the choice of formal and informal styles, strategy ofrequest, semantic formulas, and personal pronouns.

Abstract

Racism towards African-American brings many impacts to African-American people’s life, especially who have ever experienced it. One ofsome psychological effects that experienced by African-American is doubleconsciousness experience that could be explored in Durrow’s The Girl Who Fellfrom the Sky. Double consciousness phenomenon is found in the main characterof the novel named Rachel Morse, a daughter of white mother and African-American father, who has identity problem in her new society. This study aimsto attend the identity negotiation of Rachel as the result of double consciousnessshe experienced using double consciousness theory by W.E.B. Du Bois. Thisstudy reveals that Rachel Morse who experience double consciousness has tonegotiate her biracial identity in American society who still believe in ‘one-drop’rule so that she could fit in the society. The practice of racism and stereotypeforms need to be reduced to make a better living for African-American andbiracial people in the United States.

Abstract

The quality of process and learning outcome always gathers side by sideand proportional. The qualified learning process will produce the qualifiedlearning outcome. The indicator of learning process is emerging by using correctlearning model to support the learning outcome. Dick and Carrey leaning modelis one of those models. The use of Dick and Carey model which is gathered withthe scientific approach of curriculum 2013 is proven empirically in supportingthe learning outcome of Indonesian language and literature. This research aimsto describe the implication of dick and carrey learning model on Indonesianlanguage and literature learning process. The result shows that this model is aperfect match for the subject because the model is referring to the general stagesin learning system development. Moreover, dick and carrey model has ten stepson systematical learning process that makes it appropriate for the implicationsof 2013 curriculum.
