Abstract

Rural population in Yogyakarta Special Province (DIY), in the last two decades, have shown dramatical changes in its quantity and quality. Depopulation is one of the interseting hanges which may considered as unique in term of its spatial distribution. Rural depopulation is a nebulous phenomenon which many factors, actors, and other  phenomenon are involved in shoping depopulation. It is related to socio – economic hanges such as a) shifting economic structure and labour in rural areas from agricultural to non – agriculture sectors; b) growing urban economy leads by industry which may creates employment opportunities and adsorb labours or migrants; c) improving social development related to technological innovation, accessibility and resource availability. Besides the sicio – economic factors, physical geographycal factors may influence to depopulation pattern.This paper is based on a secondary data research i.e. statistical data at rural levels in Yogyakarta, thematics maps and other documents. Statistical methodes and map pattern analysis are employed to analysis data. The result of this research are as follows: a) the rural depopulation in DIY can be found in 189 rural areas of 393 rural areas (48.09%); b) the spatial distribution of the rural depopulation are in Gunung Kidul District (80 rural areas), Kulon Progo District (59 rural areas) Sleman District (33 rural areas), and Bantul District (17 rural areas); c) the rural depopulation in Yogyakarta at least related to six factors whih have been identified as out – migration, local resources, carrying capacity, geographycal location or accessibility, rural infrastructure, and service availability.

Abstract

Physical conditions of seawater in coastal area can be studied by sampling at several locations. To perform spatial analysis, the data should be interpolated to get the values between sample points. Several approaches for interpolation may result in different outcomes. The purpose of this research is to compare Inverse Distance Weighted (IDW) and Kriging methods. Their parameters are studied using the total suspended sediments in Maros area, South Sulawesi. The results show that the more accurate interpolation is obtained by using IDW method than using Kriging method.

Abstract

The aim of the reasearch in the area of Madiun River Basin is to make and to analyze the Intensity Duration Curve (IDC) i.e. the curve describing graphically the relation between rainfall intensity and rainfall duration in a certain frequent period. Formulation used in the research was Talbot Formula and Ishiguro’s. In the drafting of Intensity Duration Curve it was used specific coefficient i.e by using the rainfall data of fifteen and sixty duration for both applied formulations. The IDC recorded has not mean difference because in both formulation was used coefficient of the same value. The pattern of the rainfall intensity occured directed toward Nort East. It was happened because of the moving clouds directed toward that course. Depression occured at the backward of Mount Lawu, exactly toward East.

Abstract

This research is conducted in Yogyakarta-Surakarta Corridor which become an intercity corridor that has been experiencing regional transformation. The aim of this research is to analyze the pattern of regional transformation using secondary data. The research covers all of villages along Yogyakarta-Surakarta Corridor (206 villages). The data processing employs SPSS program to apply quantitative and qualitative analysis method. The result show that the higher the physical accessibility, the higher is the degree of regional transformation. This research also reveals that high regional transformation patterns which are drawn by five variables, scattered in the villages which have high physical accessibility degrees and that the villages which have low physical accessibility degrees confirm the reverse level.

Abstract

The study demonstrated the application of statistical method to describe physical and hydro-meteorological characteristics by means of time series analysis.  Fifteen(15) watersheds in East Java were selected for this study. Data input for the analysis include: physical data, rainfall and discharge. Physical data of the watershed (topography, river network, land use, and soil type) are extracted from existing database and treated using GIS Software. Daily rainfall data were collected from existing pluviometers around the region. Daily discharge data were obtained from measurement station located at the outlet of each watershed. Areal Rainfall for each watershed was determined using average value of existing pluviometers around the watershed and determined using simple arithmetic method. These time series data are then imported to RAP (River Analysis Package).  Analysis on the RAP, include: general statistical, flow duration curve (FDC), and baseflow analysis. The result then presented in graphic and tables. Research shows that among the watersheds have different physical and hydrological characteristics.

Abstract

Umbul Sungsang spring located in the foot of a Merapi is on shift zone between volcanic foot plain and fluvial volcanic fott plain constitutes spring belt. Up to the present, the population use that spring for drinking water and irrigation. The planning of taking water by Municipal Waterworks to supply Solo population causes people around it worried because the usually use that spring. Therefore it is needed to conduct a research to know the potential of that spring. The aim of this research is to account how much the need of drinking water, manucipal waterworks and irrigation and the potential of the spring which is available. The research uses survey method. Primary and secondary data are collected, analyzed quantitatively by using software aid to do simulation the need of irrigation. The result of the research shows that the need of drinking water is 0.068 lt/second/day taken in dry season; manucipal waterworks uses 200 lt/second/day and for irrigation is about 442.2 lt/second/day with the pattern rice – tobacco – rice. Irrigation is also supplied from Bendung Bukur Ireng. The result of the research also shows that in October period I, II, III, and November period II and I lack of water. Therefore municipal waterworks must not use water on Otober and November, while on July and September adjust to the rest of discharge of water, which is available. Its water quality fulfils the requirement for various needs.

Abstract

The crowd of Yogyakarta urban has impacted its surrounding area, including Depok sub district, which is indicated by the rising of physical development, for example education facilities and settlements. The progress does not only bring positive impact, but also negative impact for instance the rising of crime number i.e. motor vehicle robbery. The aims of this research are 1) mapping motor vehicle robbery data as the distribution map and identifying motor vehicle robbery hot spot base on distrbution map; and 2) studying the correlation of motor vehicle robbery hot spot with physical environment phenomena, i.e. land use type and settlement pattern. The research method consists of two parts; they are motor vehicle robbery cluster analysis and the relation of motor vehicle robbery and physical environment analysis. Motor vehicle robbery cluster analysis is using distribution data, which analyzes the distribution into motor vehicle robbery hot spot with nearest neighbor tehnique. Contingency coefficient and frequency distribution analysis is used to analyze the correlation of motor vehicle robbery hot spot and physical environment. Contingency coefficient is used to study the relation of motor vehicle robbery hot spot polygon with physical environment condition, whereas frequency distribution is used to study the distribution of motor vehicle robbery in the hot spot with physical environment condition. Physical environment which consists of land use type, housing density, house regularity pattern, and the average of building size, are obtained from interpretation of black and white panchromatic aerial photograph year 2000, in the scale 1 : 20.000. the most motor vehicle robbery hot spot is found on the settlement area, 68,3% from 378 motor vehicle robbery cases in the hot spot. The seond level is found on the education area (16.4%). The most motor vehicle hot spot in the settlement is found on the hight density and irregular settlement, which have big size buildings. The calculation of contingency coefficient shows that there was a significant correlation between motor vehicle robbery hot spot with land use type and settlement pattern, but it has low correlation value. It means that land use type and settlement pattern have weak influence to the hot spot existence.

Abstract

The increasing of sea level due to climate change has been focused many research activities in order to know the coastal response to the change, and determine the important variables which have contribution to the coastal change. This paper presents a method for integrating Coastal Vulnerability Index (CVI), Multi Criteria Analysis (MCA) method and Geographic Information-System (GIS) technology to map the coastal vulnerability. The index is calculated based-on six variables: coastal erosion, geomorphology, slope, significant wave height, sea level change and tidal range. Emphasize has been made to the methodological aspect, essentially which is linked to: (i) the use of GIS technique for constructing, interpolation, filtering and resampling the data for shoreline grid, (ii) the standardization each rank of variables (0-1) and the use of several percentile (20%, 40%, 60%, and 80%) for each rank score, and (iii) the use of variable’s rank to map the relative (local) and standard (global) vulnerability of the coastline. The result show that for local, the index consist of four categories: very high (19.61%), high (68.63%), moderate (1,96%), and low (9.80%). Meanwhile, for global level, the index is constantly in low category.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the Erosion hazard, to look for conservation of bio - mechanical techniques are appropriate . Research methods with overlies topographic maps, soil maps, land use maps, to obtain a Land Unit Map. Determined soil physical properties (texture, structure, permeability) and chemical properties of soil (soil organic matter), slope, slope length, broad of land unit, crops factor and value conservation factors that have been there for Land Unit. Each land unit is determined the amount of land erosion and erosion hazard level. Erosion hazard level is determined based on soil erosion, and soil depth. Erosion hazzard level is used to determine the bio-mechanical conservation, according Hardjowigeno and Sukmana (1995). The results showed that the highest erosion hazard level with an area of 12.947 ha is classified weight (Land unit 15A), and the classification of an area of 14.665 ha is clssified moderately (Land unit 6A). Soil conservation is done in areas with highest erosion hazard level by making individual terraces and “kerandang” planted as a cover crops.

Abstract

Daerah perkotaan yang merupakan pusat berbagai kegiatan ekonomi, jasa dan industri mejadikan kota sebagai pusat konsentrasi penduduk. Dalam pelaksanaannya selalu membutuhkan air. Umumnya masih banyak yang menggunakan air tanah, karena mempunyai banyak kelebihan baik segi ekonomi maupun potensinya (kualitas dan kuantitas). Pada saat ini sudah terjadi kecenderungan penggunaan air tanah yang kurang rasional. Terjadi ketimpangan antara ketersediaan dan penggunaannya, di samping telah terjadi efek kurang baik bahkan terjadi gejala pencemaran air tanah yang segera perlu mendapat perhatian. Gejala dari penggunaan yang kurang rasional adalah penurunan permukaan tanah dan instrusi air laut pada daerah kota yang berada di pantai, sedangkan kondisi kualitas air pun tercemar baik dari sifat fisis, khemis maupun bakteriologis.
