Abstract

Rapid population growth in the Babelan and Sukatani areas of Bekasi Regency has significantly increased the demand for clean water, posing a challenge for PDAM Tirta Bhagasasi in maintaining a reliable and sustainable drinking water supply. This study aims to evaluate the performance of the existing water distribution network and propose an optimized development plan to meet projected demand through 2041. The methodology includes population and water demand projections, evaluation of Water Treatment Plant (WTP) capacity, hydraulic simulation using EPANET 2.0, and cost estimation for network development. The results show that by 2041, the population in Babelan and Sukatani is projected to reach 418,390 and 149,700 people respectively, with corresponding water demands of 481.8 L/s and 172.5 L/s. The existing WTP capacities are insufficient, particularly in Sukatani, which currently operates at only 44 L/s. Hydraulic simulation indicates that a looping distribution system is more effective than a branching system in improving water pressure and reducing losses. However, implementing a looping system requires a higher investment, estimated at approximately IDR 15 billion, compared to IDR 10 billion for a branching system. Given these findings, the study recommends that PDAM Tirta Bhagasasi prioritize increasing WTP capacity and adopt a looping-based distribution network to ensure long-term service reliability, particularly in high-growth areas. This approach offers both technical and economic benefits for future water supply planning and can serve as a model for other regions facing similar challenges.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), and the Human Development Index (HDI) in shaping regional output in five provinces on the island of Java. The method used is panel data regression with a random effects approach, where ICT, FDI, and HDI are the independent variables, while Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) is the dependent variable. The results show that all three variables have important and complementary roles in driving GRDP during the 2019–2023 period, but ICT has the most significant influence compared to HDI and FDI. This reflects the high technological advancement in Java and the crucial role of ICT in the region's economic growth. Practically, this study recommends strengthening digital infrastructure, improving the quality of human resources through technological literacy, optimizing FDI based on technology transfer, and accelerating digital transformation in the local economic sector through the development of a regional digital economy blueprint to encourage inclusive and sustainable growth. These findings are expected to enrich the literature and serve as a strategic policy reference for local governments in increasing GRDP in the five provinces on the island of Java.

Abstract

Yogyakarta City, as a cultural and tourism hub, experiences a high level of transportation activity, particularly in its historical and strategic areas. This results in an increase in emissions, such as sulfur dioxide (SO₂) and nitrogen dioxide (NO₂), which have a negative impact on public health and the environment. This study aims to analyze the spatial dispersion of SO₂ and NO₂ pollutants from transportation sector activities using the AERMOD model. The results of the emission inventory on 10 research roads indicate that the highest SO₂ emission load is found on Jalan KH Ahmad Dahlan, at 8,315.31 g/hour. In contrast, the highest NO₂ emission load is observed on Jalan Brigjen Katamso, at 704.50 g/hour. The type of diesel-fueled motorized vehicles, although relatively fewer in number, has a much greater contribution to SO₂ and NO₂ emissions than gasoline-fueled vehicles, especially motorcycles. The modeling results using AERMOD showed that the maximum concentrations of SO₂ and NO₂ reached 53.1 μg/m³ and 118 μg/m³, respectively, with the distribution pattern influenced by the dominant wind direction from the northwest and relatively low wind speed (0.5–2.1 m/s). The spatial pattern of the simulation results showed a decrease in concentration as the distance from the emission source to the sensitive receptors increased, such as the Malioboro and   Alun-Alun Kidul tourist areas. Validation of the model against actual monitoring data (Impinger instrument measurement results) yielded an average RMSPE value of 24% for the SO₂ parameter, which remained within the model validation tolerance limit. However, the RMSPE value for the NO₂ parameter reached 59%, indicating that the model's concentration estimate tended to overestimate the actual value.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic presented both opportunities and challenges in higher education, including in the field of International Relations. On one hand, Covid-19 accelerated digitalization, encompassing online classrooms, online assignments, and blended learning with synchronous and asynchronous modes of instruction. This research will explore the process through which the Department of International Relations at Universitas Islam Indonesia adapted to the challenges posed by the pandemic. The study will employ a qualitative method, utilizing open-ended questions and interviews with lecturers from the Department of International Relations at Universitas Islam Indonesia. The data will be analyzed using Historical Sequence Analysis as developed by Mahoney et al. (2009). This research will demonstrate that the Covid-19 pandemic and digitalization are interdependent in establishing the new blended learning mode, which continues to be utilized to this day.

Abstract

Jalupang Landfill is the only official final disposal facility in Karawang Regency, which is still operated using an open dumping system. This management practice has created several environmental issues, including a fire incident in October 2023, and has raised concerns about the sustainability of its operations. This study was conducted to identify the variables that influence the sustainability of Jalupang Landfill by employing a reflective Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) approach. Primary data were collected through questionnaires distributed to 100 respondents across nine districts who are involved in waste transportation to the landfill. The questionnaire applied a Likert scale and was analyzed using SmartPLS 4.0 through a series of tests, including model fit, construct validity, and path coefficient analysis. The results indicated that the developed model met the fit criteria, with an R² value of 0.622 or 62.2%. The regulatory variable was found to be the most dominant factor, with a path coefficient of 0.400 (p-value = 0.002), followed by the financing variable with a coefficient of 0.286 (p-value = 0.041). These findings highlight that the sustainability of Jalupang Landfill is largely determined by strengthening regulatory aspects and ensuring adequate financial support.

Abstract

As a buffer zone for the new National Capital (IKN), Balikpapan City is experiencing rapid population growth accompanied by increasing waste generation. In 2023, the city produced 528.87 tons of waste per day, an increase of 2.74% from the previous year. Projections indicate that the Manggar Landfill will reach full capacity by 2026, rendering it unable to accommodate additional waste. To address this issue, in 2017 the Balikpapan City Government, in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) and JICA, implemented a 3R-based waste management program through the integration of Material Recovery Facilities (MRF), Integrated Waste Processing Facilities (TPST), and the Waste Bank Program. This study aims to analyze the factors influencing the sustainability of the waste management system at the MRF, TPST Kota Hijau, and Kota Hijau Waste Bank, and to formulate appropriate development strategies. The research applies Multidimensional Scaling (MDS) with the RAPFISH approach combined with SWOT analysis. The results show that the Kota Hijau Waste Bank has the highest sustainability status, supported by financial independence and strong community participation, and is classified as fairly sustainable. The MRF is also considered fairly sustainable but remains highly dependent on the municipal budget. Meanwhile, the TPST Kota Hijau records the lowest sustainability level due to operational-technical challenges and limited community involvement. Overall, the three infrastructures fall within the fairly sustainable category. To advance their status to sustainable or highly sustainable, several strategic measures are required, including the optimization of local policies and regulations, program synchronization across stakeholders, strengthening institutional and human resource capacities, diversifying funding sources, enhancing community engagement, and improving technical-operational performance.
