Abstract

The existence of school libraries can provide benefits for students to search for the information needed, as a place to work on their tasks, looking for entertaining reading materials or just to fill their spare time while on a break. The school library becomes to foster students reading interest if the collection is adapted to the students' needs. The SMA 3 Depok Library is a school library that has a library collection from fiction and non-fiction. Therefore, this study aimed to identify the availability of library collections which included the relevance and completeness of collections, and the collection updates in order to foster students’ interest in reading. The research method used the quantitative method through descriptive survey conducted on students of class XI SMA 3 Depok, with a population of 408 students. The sampling technique used in this study was simple random sampling with a total sample of 81 students. Data were obtained through a questionnaire, observation, interview, and literature study. The result of this research indicated, the library collection was quite relevant, the collection of books fulfilled the completeness of the collection, however the non-book collection did not exist yet; moreover, the library collection was in accordance with the latest development of knowledge. So, based on the three indicators previously mentioned, SMA 3 Depok students’ reading interest has developed which is shown by the high frequency of reading interest. The library in 3 SMA in Depok should be provided with adequate facilities to support the use of library collections.

Abstract

The school library is not yet a favorite place for elementary school students. Many  factors have contributed to this, among other the types of books available, unreliable library time, non-permanent librarians, even the scorn of friends who think of reading in the library as behavior that pretending to diligent. Many factors have contributed to this, such as the types of books available, unreliable library time, non-permanent librarians, even the scorn of friends who think of reading in the library as pretending to be diligent and smart, which cause students to be reluctant to regularly visit the library. Hence, classroom teachers need to reaffirm the library functions and persuade students to visit and utilize facilities in the library. This article presents the evaluation results of students attitude after receiving information about the library described by the classroom teacher. The method used in this study was descriptive study, with fourth-grade students of an elementary primary school as the object, data collection techniques used questionnaires, and data analysis used a single tabulation based on quantitative data. The results showed that students had a better attitude toward school libraries, from the cognitive aspects were such as knowledge, trust, and assessment, and the affective as well as conative aspects. Therefore, it is expected that schools through the classroom teacher can intensively spread information about the function of school libraries, and improve library facilities and services to the students, so they are accustomed to using the library as a first step in forming the love-literacy generation.

Abstract

This study aimed to find out the use of open library digital library services  in meeting the information needs of Telkom University students. The study used the qualitative method with case study approach. Data collection techniques were conducted through interviews with Telkom University students, observation, and literature study. Study results showed that the initial stage was based on the motivation and goals arising from self-awareness and the need to increase knowledge in completing tasks and scientific works (thesis/TA). Browsing began with authentication using an SSO account (Igracias), and information retrieval began with using a simple search facility. Students also used the internet to access various other sources with the Google search engine to further enrich the required information. Then, At the formulation stage, students conducted brainstorming by learning and understanding the problem-solving process related to the appropriate topic and discussing it with friends, lecturers, or people who were considered understandable and could be invited to discuss related topics that were being deepened. The collection stage was done by downloading the file and storing it in their laptop folder. At the presentation stage, students would feel satisfied after getting the information so it is possible to do monitoring.  The presentation was performed in the form of writing a new document or as a complement in both the completion of lecture assignments (proposal and paper) as well as the writing of scientific papers (thesis/TA).

Abstract

The development of information technology has provided many changes in all aspects of online and offline life. This development requires the readiness of all lines to adjust to the needs of the changes, which are to support the realization of good government administration and the improvement of the quality of public services. This study aimed to determine the perceived usefulness of digital archive management using Dinamic Filing Information Systems (SIKD). The study used a descriptive quantitative approach. Data collection technique used questionnaires and was measured using the Likert scale. The instrument validity test used logical validity with expert judgment; reliability was measured using the Alpha Cronbach formula with coefficient value 0.796. Subjects of the study were a total of 19 educational staff of the Faculty of Education Yogyakarta State University. The result revealed that 78.9% of respondents claimed that Dinamic Filing Information Systems (SIKD) improved their performance. 94.8% of respondents stated that SIKD improved user productivity, and all respondents acknowledged that their perfomance increased due to the use of SIKD. Thus, SIKD provides the performance of an archive information system which is useful for archive management in Faculty of Education Yogyakarta State University and users are satisfied with this SIKD.
