Abstract

The community of the District of Gudo in Jombang Regency applies the limits of interaction in relations between religions, especially in terms of worship. This happened because there were still some people who invited other religious people to attend their worship services and the target of their teachings was children from outside their religion. Therefore, the community is worried that the young children will be indoctrinated by the teachings of other religions. This study uses a qualitative approach that aims to determine the attitude of tolerance of religious people in the grassroots region. With this qualitative approach, this research is more directed at direct observation. From each religion in Gudo has an opinion about tolerance: 1) Confucianism believes tolerance is a respect between one religion and another. 2) Christianity believes tolerance is a feeling of love and mutual trust between religious people. 3) Islam believes that tolerance is a freedom of life that has limitations, namely their own religion. Keywords: Tolerance, diversity, harmony

Abstract

Contrary to common perspective of sacred place, which usually excludes nature and environment from its discourse, this paper attempts to link nature with sacred place. This paper asserts that human perspective of God does not essentially exclude human’s linkage with environment. Nature is manifestation of God, and human—as part of it—can expressthe manifestation into practical chains of religious worship and rituals. Addressing religious art of TadaoAndo with his Church of Water and RidwanKamilwith his Al-Irsyad Mosque, this paper aims to describe how ecology deals with religious architecture and how ecological standpoint fits toreligious rituals. This paper will also refer to the concept of deep ecology that traces connection to the wholeness, intuition, and affective perception of the sacredness and interconnection of all life. Simply, deep ecology tries to “resacralize” human perceptions of natural world. Keywords: Religious Architecture, Church, Mosque, Ecology, Nature.

Abstract

This article will specifically examine Abid al-Jabiri’s renewal thoughts. The unique and important side of al- Jabiri’s thinking lies in the epistemological criticism carried out on the scientific building that developed in the middle of the Arab-Islamic civilization. Epistemological criticism becomes a realm of science that is not muchnoticed by Muslim thinkers in particular. Moreover, epistemology as part of philosophy has long been kept away from the scientific civilization of the Islamic world; studying philosophy is tantamount to plunging into the abyss of disbelief. At least, the epistemological criticism of al-Jabiri, offers the Islamic world an attempt to reconstruct a building of knowledge of reason to catch up, change the Islamic world towards the progress of civilization, and achieve modernity.Key words: Abid Al-Jabiri, Islamic Epistemolgy, Modernity

Abstract

Pati is a region on the north coast, according to the hypothesis of the researcher, the region is divided into three categories. The northern regions are more religious, the central is more plural, while the southern region is in the middle. In the central region there are many relics of tombs believed to be the those of the Muslim proselytizers in the area of Pati. The one that attracts the researcher is a tomb in the Gambiran area, where there are five local Muslim saints buried, one of them belons to mbah Hendro Kusumo, the son of Syech Ahmad Mutamakkin. This article attempts to trace back the spreading of Islam in Pati based on the existence of thetomb of Mbah Hendro Kusumo. It wants to answer question of whethere the existence of his tomb is due to his studying there or marital relationship, and how it relates to the spreading of Islam. Keywords: Mbah Hendro Kusumo, Traces of Islamic Dakwah, Islam
