Abstract

A close correlation between gadgets and the internet makes it easier for Gen-Z to access information but tends to be low in critical thinking. Regrettably, the must-needed critical thinking process in absorbing information is usually missed as the process of copying or imitating all the information is way much easier to do. This research aims to develop a test instrument that can measure the critical thinking quality of Gen-Z (students at the Pontianak State Catholic High School). The test instrument developed focuses on the topic of humans and love, one of the materials contained in regional culture and multicultural subjects offered in the first semester. The test instrument developed using formative research can measure the quality of students' critical thinking. In addition, the test instrument has a value of validity, reliability, index of difficulty, and distinguishing power as determined.

Abstract

Abstract

Catechists preach the Bible through the practice of catechesis. The proclamation is carried out in a methodical and organic manner. Catechist actors, in particular, focus on evangelizing the general public, both clergy and laity. In the real-world development of the Christian faith, laypeople who become catechists have a complicated responsibility. Because they are directly involved in the lives of the people, they are at the forefront of the ministry work. They are also, in another sense, among people who share God's word with others. The lay catechists' experiences in life have become so ingrained in people's lives. The realities of today are extremely diverse. Even though they live in a time of globalization and modernity, there are still a lot of areas in which civilization has not been particularly developed. Border areas are in many cases being ignored, like places that are sometimes still harder to get to than the development of government centers, like roads that are hard to get to. Catechists face difficulties in providing services due to the scattered location of their service stations. To continue serving under the most difficult circumstances, the catechists need a spiritual spirit to support their efforts in developing religious education in this global world.

Abstract

The legacy of past conflicts has prompted the emergence of a civil society movement with the objective of transforming Pontianak City into a Human Rights City. This movement is pursuing this goal through the drafting of a Regional Regulation on Tolerance. Nevertheless, the legislative and political process within the Regional Houses of Representatives has given rise to paradigmatic debates concerning the concept of human rights. This article aims to elucidate the paradigmatic conflict between state actors and civil society during the drafting of the Regional Regulation on Tolerance in Pontianak City. The field study presented in this article is based on active participation in public hearings and dialogues between the Regional Houses of Representatives and civil society. The study employs a socio-legal approach, which reveals a contention between two distinct paradigms: the positivist paradigm (naive realism), as represented by state actors, and the critical paradigm (historical realism), as advocated by civil society. The Regional Houses of Representatives, as state actors, oppose the institutionalization of tolerance on the grounds that the Eurocentric concept of human rights may conflict with Sharia and local culture. In contrast, civil society views tolerance as a tool for addressing structural inequalities inherited from past conflicts. The inability of the two parties to reach a consensus led to the failure to ratify the Regional Regulation on Tolerance, which prioritizes human rights. This outcome underscores that human rights have not been a primary consideration in the formulation of local regulations on tolerance. This attitude contrasts with international and national human rights law, which has the effect of neglecting the aspiration to become a human rights city. This research contributes to changes in the strategy of the civil society movement in advocating for human rights law in regional policy.

Abstract

While wars generally have negative implications and bring chaos, Topat War in Lingsar Village, West Lombok Regency, is an exception. Despite being called a war, this annual tradition is carried out joyfully and without the intention of hurting each other. Instead of using weapons or battling against each other, the Balinese-Hindus and the Sasak-Muslims throw food, called ketupat, at each other. This uniqueness creates curiosity about how two-different religions celebrate the same tradition with mutual understanding. Therefore, this research will look at the prerequisites for successful interfaith engagement reflected in Perang Topat. This research was conducted qualitatively with meta-analysis approach to find a variety of scientific documents as primary data. The results showed that the series of religious rituals were carried out together while faithfully upholding their respective beliefs. It refers to the internum and externum aspects that live in this society, which are the essence of religious moderation. Furthermore, the win-win solution for both religions, the "mutual" process, the accommodation process of understanding and agreement in the annual rituals are designed to maintain the memory of the importance of living in harmony with people of different religions and traditions. The decision-making and ways of preserving the sustainability show a commitment to nationality, tolerance, non-violence, accommodation to local culture, and respect for minorities without exclusivity which are indicators of moderation. Thus, moderate religious attitudes are needed as a negotiation strategy to create an effective and harmonious atmosphere between religious communities.

Abstract

This article aims to examine the understanding of Catholic Religion teachers’ candidates on the implementation of human rights in their relation to human rights issues such as gender, ideology, and religious minorities. The questions are: first, to what extent do students understand human rights and how do they apply that understanding in approaching human rights issues? Second, how do they transfer the understanding they have especially if those understandings are linked to the Church's views that are closely related to these issues? These questions were analyzed by qualitative research using open-ended questionnaires and semi-structured interviews. From the results of data processing, it was found that the students had an understanding of human rights and implemented that understanding in their relations with groups of different religions with an attitude of tolerance, acceptance of differences and respect. However, with regard to sensitive issues such as gender, banned political parties or organizations and Local Religion, they still use textual understandings. The main reason is that they rarely come face to face with those who have this gender identity, ideology and religion. Another factor is their lack of understanding of the inclusive view of the Church on these issues. Finally, the detailed implication and research suggestions are included necessary to accommodate meeting spaces to raise the spirit of humanity (through which principles of human rights, especially Freedom of Religion and Belief, are promoted) that is much more inclusive and offer more inclusive interpretations and attitudes of the Catholic Church towards these issues.by peer scholars, especially in the same field of research
