JSW: Jurnal Sosiologi Walisongo - ISSN 2503-3166 (print) ISSN 2503-3182 (online) is a critical, reflective, and transformative academic media that is published by Laboratorium Sosiologi, Fakultas Ilmu Sosial dan Ilmu Politik, Universitas Islam Negeri Walisongo Semarang, in the effort for developing the discipline of Sociology having the perspective of unity of sciences. Article is based on research in all division of sociology like sociology of religion, sociology of politic, sociology of law, sociology of development, urban/rural sociology, democracy, social ethic, anthropology, community development, social philosophy, gender, and social welfare.

Religious communities express religiously in various forms according to the social context in which they develop. The diversity of the expression as a form of interrelations of textual interpretation of the social context and its era. Religious social movement is one form of religious expression to answer complex religious and social issues and needs from primary to tertiary needs. The urban community utilizes religious social movements in the form of majelis taklim. Organizing religious social movements in majelis taklim is part of collective awareness and consensus among community members. The existence of religious social elites is the key to achieving religious social movements. The trust and social network of citizens and social institutions become another force within the community. In the case of this study, the religious social movements of urban communities take the form of routine recitation activities, the collection of zakat infaq and shadaqah, the organization of formal education, community health services, and the development of economic enterprises. In this social movement, the basic problems faced include the capacity of management and human resources. The implications of the presence of religious social movements in urban communities are felt. They have a spirit of unity on the basis of trust in the community, fulfilled the religious social needs and awakened the identity of the community that has the advantage.Â

The emergence of various types in epistemology shows that social sciences has grown dynamically. Several epistemologies which is usually applied by social scientist such as positivism, historicism, materialism, phenomenology, structuralism, and hermeneutics. Epistemology can be intrepeted as a philosophical view that used in assessing social and cultural phenomena. As a social researcher, we have to be aware for using an epistemology in order to get results on the right path. In the other hand, most of the epistemologies have the advantages and weakness for understanding social and cultural phenomena. Therefore, this paper aim to explain the comparison between positivism and structuralism. It will be analyzed through some elements in epistemology for instance basic assumption, model and value.Â

This research attempts to examine the effectiveness of the areas without smokeables âKawasan Tanpa Rokokâ(KTR) policy in Udayana University, Denpasar which was implemented at about one year (June 2015-June 2016). Furthermore, this research aims to emphasize the rationality of the smokers which are continuing to smoke although the KTR signs was put in the Udayana University areas. To accent the private and personal rationality, the phenomenology method which focus on subjective actor (the smokers) was used in this research. This method is a qualitative method and purpose to collect the deeper data to expound the personal reasons of the smokers who always smoke continuously in KTR areas. From the result of the research, there were some problems that made the KTR policy was not effective in Udayana University areas. First, there was no clear sanction for the smokers; Second, the lecture and the university employee did not show the good instance to comply with the KTR policy; Third, a cigarette was sell openly in University store (Waserda); Fourth, there was no smoking areas for the smokers in Udayana University, Denpasar.Â

This paper argues that men and masculinity studies influence the direction of gender studies and development in Indonesia. Through literature review and participatory observation, the author as a male activist that engage in advocating gender justice and gender based violence prevention for more that fiveteen years presents five indications that support the thesis. Among those indications are; first, the growing of men and masculinity studies in Indonesia. Second, transformation of Pusat Studi Wanita (Center for Women Studies) into Pusat Studi Gender dan Anak (Center for Research on Gender and Children). Third, the growing of men movement for gender justice. Forth, the growing of research on men and masculinity in Muslim society. This paper also argues that study on masculinity and Islam is challenging field since very few scholars who explored this issue. Moreover this paper points out that research on masculinity and Islam will contribute to the development of global discourse on masculinity.Â

This article tries to explain the role of reflexive capacity among young people during transition to work. Specifically, four informants in this research are representations of middle class youth from Yogyakarta. This research applies qualitative methods and in-depth interviews as techniques to gather data. This article shows the relevancy of reflexive capacity as a form of embodied cultural capital. Young people whom possess high volume of reflexive capacity will be able to understand the shift of rule of the game in the field and responds quickly and strategically. Furthermore, this reflexive capacity is important as a pre-requirement to anticipate present and future risk. On the other hand, reflexive capacity is only one of entry points among other forms of capital because in reality, young people have to actively negotiate with multilayers structural forces which objectively exist.Â

This article discusses oral traditions of indigenous theologies that various communities in Papua believe about their God as life savers. The indigenous theology has historically played an important role in shaping the knowledge of religion, customs, and culture into their life orientations. The indigenous theologies include Ugatamee, Hai and Koreri and their oral traditions experienced transformation in the presence of religion. The tension between indigenous theology and the values of the gospel in Christianity in particular has a serious impact on religious orientation as well as the culture of society. The spread of Christianity, especially the one that touches peoples lives, leads to a great transformation of peoples trust in God. The great transformation was in the land of Papua, one of which was brought about by the influence of religious education, which subsequently played a major role in the construction of their religious life and experience.Â

Karaoke houses that many found in urban areas, nowadays also find into rural areas. The existence of karaoke houses can not be separated from the profession of "karaoke guide", and they often get bad stigma by the public. This study aims to: (1) find out how social construction Botorejo people against karaoke guides; (2) to know the background of the formation of social construction of the community towards karaoke guides, and (3) to know the impact of the social construction on the social relation between the karaoke guide and Botorejo people. This research uses qualitative method with case study approach. Location in Botorejo Village, Wonosalam District, Demak Regency. The data gets from karaoke guides, visitors karaoke houses, managers karaoke houses and people who live in Botorejo Village. The results of the study found that the Karaoke Guides constructed by Botorejo people as âbad womenâ, the background of the socialconstruction of the Botorejo people is due to the daily habits of karaoke guides and because of the medias reference to the existence of karaoke guides. The impact of social construction on social relations between people with karaoke guides is a latent conflict, social careless relation, and apriori images by the Botorejo people.Â
