AbstractTheoretically, economic development will create equality of wealth distribution to  people. This is not the case in Proppo disctrict Pamekasan Madura after being declared as one of Batik centre, Proppo has the highest rate of disadvantaged people compared to other districts. Using qualitative method, specifically in-depth interview and observation, this article  explains the structural, cultural factors as well as the process of social reproduction that resulted in social inequality in Proppo district. This article concludes that the reproduction of unequal social structure results in unequal power distribution, dominant-subordinant relation and also unequality of access. This unequal social structure is also reinforced by patriarchalculture which later strengthened social inequality.© 2013 Universitas Negeri Semarang

Previous studies about jazz in Indonesia tend to generalize and hold a bias against narration from the mainstream, they do not see the different narration from micro scope. Using Yogyakarta jazz community as an entry point, this study shows that jazz community is not a single entity, rather, it involved various identities including educational as well as social background. This paper also indicates contestation among different jazz community in Yogyakarta wich eventually shape the colour of jazz music in the city.

This article aims to apply the generation perspective as a tool to evaluate program of agropolitant village in Perpat, Belitung. Using qualitative methods especially through application of observation and in-depth interview techniques, this evaluation study finds that the change of generation in a local scope and low participations among young people become important factors that resulted in the lack of sustainability of agropolitant village program. This result becomes a distinctive finding compared to previous evaluation studies in the same location. The importance of youth studies perspective both during the process of planning and evaluating similar development program has to be taken into consideration by the policy maker in order to anticipate the risk of unsustainable development program in the future. Keywords: Youth, generation perspective, development, agropolitant village

Using Bourdieusian approach, this article explores the reflexive strategies of young jazz musicians in order to develop their musical practices in a contemporary urban context of Yogyakarta, a city of culture and activism in Indonesia. In detail, the reflexive strategy (Sweetman 2003; Threadgold & Nilan 2009) will be explained as the manifestation of struggle in the field of cultural production (Bourdieu 1993). As an implication, young jazz musicians have to negotiate their musical practices with the reproduction of doxa and the representation of dominant agents in the jazz music field including the availability of public spaces in contemporary Yogyakarta. The resistance towards doxa will be explained based on the local narratives of the Yogyakarta jazz community as a mixture of the local and the trans-local scene (Bennett & Peterson 2004). Furthermore, the reflexive strategy will be analysed through the lens of the youth culture perspective specifically as a manifestation of a mixture between post-subculture (Bennett 1999) and subculture (Blackman 2005). In their everyday musical practices, young jazz musicians produce their musical practices fluidly and flexibly as a lifestyle distinction as well as a form of everyday life resistance. In summary, this article shows the complexity of the musical processes of young jazz musicians in contemporary urban space of Yogyakarta, Indonesia.

This article tries to explain the role of reflexive capacity among young people during transition to work. Specifically, four informants in this research are representations of middle class youth from Yogyakarta. This research applies qualitative methods and in-depth interviews as techniques to gather data. This article shows the relevancy of reflexive capacity as a form of embodied cultural capital. Young people whom possess high volume of reflexive capacity will be able to understand the shift of rule of the game in the field and responds quickly and strategically. Furthermore, this reflexive capacity is important as a pre-requirement to anticipate present and future risk. On the other hand, reflexive capacity is only one of entry points among other forms of capital because in reality, young people have to actively negotiate with multilayers structural forces which objectively exist.Â

Secara spesifik kritik termanifestasi melalui empat karakteristik tekstual antara lain the claim of universality, reading from the center, gesture of exclusion dan grand erasure.

This article explains the transition process and youth strategy in Yogyakarta in the era of late modernity. Departing from the context of late modernity in Indonesia, this article applies the concept of mobility as a strategy and reflexive capacity of youth in transition. This article explores the biographical narratives of the four young final-year students in Yogyakarta. By using qualitative methods, this research applies observation techniques and in-depth interviews. The phenomenon of youth studying while preparing for the future, mainly work or/and capital accumulation towards work is a common occurrence of the youth transition in Yogyakarta. Young people respond to the uncertainties of the future and unpredictable consequences of risk through mobility and reflexive capacity as forms of capital. Â Thus, based on empirical data, those two components become essential and valuable wealth to be accumulated by young people.
