Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic augmented with the threats brought by climate change resulted in a ballooning number of poor across the globe. Hence, making it challenging to achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals established by the United Nations. This paper aims to identify long-term solutions to address the posing threats brought by the crisis that will lead to the eradication of poverty. Urban Container Gardening is one of the most efficient and attainable ways of solving hunger and reducing waste. It will also be a good source of income since agricultural harvests are largely consumed daily as people are becoming more health conscious. However, this paper concludes that the current urban container gardening system is not sustainable due to the lack of support from the government. This paper also examines the role of the government in facilitating a free market for all, where people are allowed to offer and sell their harvests. Finally, this study presumes the importance of mandatory savings and insurance for the vendors to transform their lives from poverty to financial security.

Abstract

Tourism has become one of the largest export industries worldwide and a key sector necessary for the socioeconomic growth of nations. Tourism's considerable and recognized roles as a foreign exchange earnings source, employment generation, and public income, amongst others, towards the growth of an economy have drawn much attention. The sector's performance is somewhat dependent on the macroeconomic variables in an economy. Thus, this study examines the relationship between tourism sector output and macroeconomic variables in Nigeria, covering the period 1991-2020. Tourism sector output proxied by tourism sector contribution to the GDP was employed as the dependent variable. At the same time, interest rate, foreign exchange and inflation rate, and money supply were the independent variables. The autoregressive distributed lag was employed to analyze data for the study. The ARDL's result cointegration test shows a long-run relationship between the variables employed, and a significant relationship exists between the dependent and independent variables. Based on the findings, the study recommends that interest rate, foreign exchange rate and inflation as they impact the tourism sector's performance. These variables tend to impact the tourism sector's performance and, as such, should be monitored and controlled.

Abstract

Domestic tourists have an essential role in the development of tourism in Indonesia. Knowledge of the variables that cause domestic tourists to travel is essential as one step to driving national tourism. This study aims to identify the economic variables that affect the travel of domestic tourists. The impact of changes in income, fuel prices, and the exchange rate of Rupiah per the US dollar will be estimated and tested. Dummy variables are also used to represent the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020. Multiple regression models will be used to analyze the relationship and influence of these variables on domestic tourists travelling using time series data for the period 2001-2020. An important finding in this study is the significance of income and fuel prices variables. It shows that income and transportation costs are the determining factors for domestic tourists travelling in Indonesia. Another finding is that the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 caused a decrease in domestic tourist travel.

Poverty is a global issue faced by many countries in the world, including Indonesia. The purpose of this study is to examine the level of poverty in Eastern Indonesia by measuring Islamic banking financing, economic growth, LFPR, education and health and inflation against poverty levels in Eastern Indonesia. The data source used in the form of panel data is obtained from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) for the 2011-2021 period. Data analysis using regression panel data with Common Effect Model (CEM), Fixed Effect Model (FEM), and Random Effect Model (REM) approach processed with E-Views 10. The results of this study indicate that the estimated model chosen in this study is Random The Effect Model (REM) followed by LM testing shows that the results of the Islamic Banking Financing, TPAK, RLS, UHH, and Inflation variables have no significant effect in a negative direction on the poverty level. negative. This means, for example, that there are independent variables simultaneously, so that the poverty level in Eastern Indonesia is increasingly leading to change. Meanwhile, in the simultaneous test the F-Statistic prob value is 0.000000 < 0.05, which means that the six independent variables simultaneously affect the poverty level in Eastern Indonesia. And the value of Adjusted R-Square is 0.607420 which means 60% of the variables of Islamic Banking Financing, economic growth, TPAK, RLS, UHH, and Inflation in this study are able to explain the variation of economic growth variables. While the remaining 40% is explained by other variables outside the model.

There is data that emerging market countries have increased from 35.90% to contributing 46.62% of FDI of the world's total in 2019. Using 25 years of data (1995-2019), use the panel data regression method to see the influence of ICT infrastructure on FDI. Find strong empirical evidence showing that the influence of ICT infrastructure on FDI is significantly positive in emerging market economies. In addition, we also examine the relationship between the variables GDP, inflation, and Trade openness to FDI. GDP, and Trade openness have significant positive results for FDI, while inflation has significant negative results for FDI in emerging market economies.

The level of wages received by workers in the informal sector tends to be lower than workers in the formal sector. This condition can be exacerbated if there is gender discrimination, which causes differences in the distribution of wages for workers. This study aims to identify wage discrimination between genders of informal sector workers. The independent variables of this study consisted of education, age, training, incentives, gender, and type of work. Gender wage ratio and gender productivity ratio were estimated simultaneously using non-linear logistic regression method. This study found evidence of wage discrimination against women in the informal sector. Education and training contribute positively to equal pay between women and men
