Abstract

The study of mathematics is still being dominated by teachers and several students who considered mathematic as an involute subject. The deficiency of variation in a particular subject may affect the student’s learning result in mathematics. The objective of this research is to examine the differentiation of learning outcome of mathematic study between students applying Guided Note Taking method and Expository method as well as determining the most effective one between students using Guided Note Taking method and Expository method towards in the 8th Grade Students of Muhammadiyah Karangkajen Islamic Junior High School, Yogyakarta. Population objected in this research are students Grade 8th ranging from the class of 8th A, 8th B, 8th C, 8th D, 8th E, Even Semester, Muhammadiyah Karangkajen Islamic Junior High School (MTs), Academic Term 2015/2016, with an exact total of 161 students. The sample in this research is students from the class of 8th A as an experimental class with an exact total of 31 students and students from the class of 8th C as controlling class with a total of 33 students selected by class appointment. The data collection techniques applied in this research are normality tests conducting a formula of Chi-Quadrate, homogeneity test with a formula–f  and hypothesis test with a formula of -t-test.  The result of a hypothesis test with a significant level 5% and latitude degree 62 pointed out that: (1) There is a difference in mathematics study which implemented the Guided Note Taking method and Expository method. This matter is explained at  = 3,4171 = 1,9996, therefore,  > and (2) Study by implementing Guided Note Taking method is more effective compared to the Expository method. This matter is explained at   = 3,4171 and   = 1,6698 therefore  >

Abstract

The study was conducted on the grounds that learning commonly applied in Jetis Middle School 3 in Bantul Regency tends to be teacher-centered, students become passive and less involved in the learning process, so learning models that involve students are needed. One learning model that can provide opportunities for students to be active in the Cooperative Learning Model Type TAI (Team-Assisted Individualization) and NHT type (Number Head Together). This study aims to determine the effectiveness of Cooperative Learning Type TAI (Team-Assisted Individualization) and NHT type (Number Head Together) on the mathematics learning outcomes of class VII students of SMP N 3 Jetis Bantul district, even semester 2015/2016 academic year on the subject of flat building rectangular. The population in this study were all VII graders in the even semester of SMP N 3 Jetis, Bantul Regency in the 2015/2016 academic year which were divided into 7 classes namely VII A, VII B, VII C, VII D, VII E, VII F, and VII G which a total of 212 students. The samples were taken in 3 classes with a purposive sampling technique, obtained class VII B as Experiment Class I, class VII A as Experimental Class II, and Class VII C as Control Class. The data analysis technique used for the prerequisite test includes the normality test with the Chi-Square formula, the homogeneity test with the Bartlett test, and the hypothesis test includes the F Test and the Least Significant Different (LSD) test. The results at a significant level of 5% and df = (2, 94) indicate (1) that at least two classes have differences in mathematics learning outcomes of students who use the Cooperative Learning Model Type TAI, NHT type, and direct learning models. This is indicated by the value  so   and (2) Classes that use the Cooperative learning model Type TAI are more effective than those using the NHT type learning model on learning outcomes and classes that use NHT type learning are more effective than those that use direct learning models on learning outcomes. This is indicated by the results of the LSD hypothesis test where a significant level of 5% and 94 degrees of freedom were obtained in case I   = 7,92 and LSD = 6,35 so then  > LSD then  rejected and = 80,00 and = 72,08 means . In case II = 15,625 and LSD = 6,35 so then  > LSD then  rejected and = 80,00 and =  means . While in the case III = 7,708 and LSD = 6,30 so then  > LSD so  rejected and = 72,08 and =  means . It concluded that .

Abstract

This research was carried out because of the activities of the eighth-grade students of SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Prambanan in the 2015/1016 school year in mathematics learning was still lacking. The purpose of this study is to increase the activity of students in mathematics learning by using the Realistic Mathematics Approach class VIII Even Semester SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Prambanan 2015/2016 academic year. This research is a classroom action research. The settings used are class VIII, amounting to 27 students. The study was conducted in 2 cycles, namely, cycle I and cycle II, each cycle consisted of 2 meetings. Cycle I and cycle II used the Realistic Mathematics Approach. Data collection techniques used were observation, interviews, documentation, and triangulation. Research instruments are observation sheets and interview guidelines. Instrument analysis uses content validity. The analysis used is descriptive qualitative. The results showed that learning using the Realistic Mathematics Approach can improve student activity in mathematics learning in class VIII SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Prambanan 2015/2016 academic year. This is evident from the results of observations of student activities in learning each cycle has increased, namely the average percentage of observation of student activities in the first cycle of 50,623% which reached sufficient criteria, and in the second cycle increased to 61,960% which reached good criteria. The results of interviews with students showed a positive response to student learning activities.
