Abstract

A house perhaps is a dream for everybody. Whatever the condition, one’s live mostly is started, enjoyed and finished in a house. However, not everybody can afford their dreaming house. Most poor people in urban areas have to live in substandard housing. Although hundreds of experts have been sent and millions $US have been spent to solve this problem, however, housing problems in the Third World is still acute. In fact, part of Indonesia people specially some of urban Balinese should live in slum settlement. For some people, slum is perceived as a problem. However, from different perspective, slum can be regarded as a solution especially for the marginal groups in urban areas. What is our opinion? What cause of slum? And what is appropriate solution to improve it?

Abstract

Housing refers to both the physical product and the process of its attainment. Housing is perceived according to its performance and its usefulness varies with the level of comfort and hygiene it provides. The importance of people in housing is recognised not when housing complies with municipality by laws, but when people come to live in it and it has to be acceptable in a community. Housing also means privacy and is an expression of ways of life, aspirations and social relationships. Therefore, housing is the provision of comfortable shelter with available infrastructure, services and facilities that address the people needs.Denpasar have large the low-income housing and settlement provided by PERUMNAS and private developers as well. Yet, the fast growing of low-income housing projects in Denpasar is not guaranteed addressing the living conditions of low-income group. In fact, most housing projects, which is built both by private developers and PERUMNAS, lack physical quality, lack infrastructure and lack public facilities.This paper will try to investigate the role of households as consumers and the role of developers in providing better quality low-cost housing projects in Denpasar. The result is that the low quality of low cost housing project, caused by lack of instruments to force the builders to provide better quality and the households themselves also have no means to influence the quality of project as well.

Abstract

The rapid growth of population in urban area is not evidently followed by housing supply development. This condition causes the highly un-planed development of the density housing. By developing dwelling-flat is offering one of a good effort to solve this issue.This paper is a preliminary study of modular system design to provide the dwelling-flat for middle and low income people. This study merely concerns on design aspect of modular system and leaving out the discussion on culture and religion aspect. This paper is based on literature review from any resourcesThe component of modular the dwelling-flat is developed by pre-cast system that consist of foundation, wall, column, beam, floor and roof. The system that is used to joint inter component is a wet joints system and the casting system is cast in situ.

Abstract

Besakih temple is the greatest temples in Bali. The main road or margi agung leading to the temple, located in a symmetrical axis with candi bentar or main gate of the Penataran Agung Temple, as an exit gate. This gate is representing the greateness, holiness, and sacredness of this holy area.Residence area which located in left and right side if this margi agung, sometime create some problem because that is, some think could be given result in disgrace of this holy area, especially when the people in this residence establishing a ceremonial event subjected to their forefather. In addition, there are many others problem which can disturb the smoothness and the pleasantness of the traffic toward the temple, caused by combined circulation such as pemedek, tourist, and ceremonial procession itself, which done in margi agung.The result shows that main road of Besakih holy area is a sacred main axis and main orientation for housing around them. The other hand, we need restructuring kiosks all along margi agung.So I suggest that we must keep conservation, holiness, and sacredness of main road of Besakih holy area.

Abstract

The settlement pattern of Bali tradition is a local genius which be manifested from philosophy and concept of Hindus community. Geography factor has role in developing the diversity of the pattern settlement typology. This typology is a place to ongoing settle in accordance with the idealism, social culture and society behavior.The Settlement morphology of Bali tradition is evidently a process of change, from the process leading to an adaptation till the process that totally changes from its original form. The process morphology is essentially influenced by both internal and external factors. The main issues are happening at a various level of morphology and its problem is a degradation of physic and non physic values.Nowadays, the morphology shows obviously the rapid movement from the rural tradition settlement pattern towards an urban area. Thus, it seems that we strongly require the integrated and sustainable effort to precisely understanding the issue between tradition and modernization in order to take the right and proper decision.
