Abstract

Bali is a province located in Indonesia, which is well known as its tourism. Tourism which consists of educational, cultural, social, and economic aspect as well, be able to provide obviously job opportunity in this area. Handicraft of bullet shell in Kamasan Village has a potency to offer the chance of employment which will enhance the community income. To increase their performance, this can be attained both through providing capital additional and increasing the quality of their works. The work behavior which is safe, health and comfortable, will tend to conquer the high productivity in a long period.Ergonomics is a relation between human and their work environment. This means all relations among tools, materials, organization or work method and its environment as well.At Kamasan Village, most carvers have behavior working on sit position. Inappropriate between sit position and level of table lead to create a “force manner”. If this happens on a long term, it will create painful on their part of body.Based on mentioned above, the writer conducted a research regarding working manner of traditional carver which result painful on joint angle. The problem is how to eliminate “force manner” of the carver of bullet shell at Kamasan Village.The purpose of this research is to give an information to the carver of bullet shell to fit their table dimension suitable with the user in order to work healthy, safely, comfortable, efficiently and finally lead to increase their work productivity.Based on anthropometry data which is compared to the theory of working manner, is able to be designed ergonomically the dimension of table and working tools. The research shows that through improving the working manner which is appropriate with the anthropometry of the carver and providing better job training for the workers, will give safety, comfortable and enhance their work productivity.

Abstract

Modernization has evidently presented a new perspective and new idea in architecture development. All form of initiatives are concern noticeably to the challenge idea alongside to the advancement of age and enormous technology. The use of hugely machine, beauty and art at architecture in the past has been forgotten and nowdays tend to go behind an creativity which is clean, clear without ornament and clasiffication of form based on function.Yet, in fact, all forms of the enthusiastic and great modernism have also the variety of weakness. The willing to create the architecutre building which is free, abundant sense, plurally enthusiasm and richly meaning has been formulated obviously modernism dogmas and eventually fall into the appeareance of the eclecticism idea or alliance between history and the technology development.

Abstract

In order to provide adequate housing, considerable proportion of people in the developing world transform their houses. This informal housing supply is also accurring in Bali either in most public housing or in the traditional houses.The objective of this study is to know what determinant factors of housing transformation. In order to achieve this objective, this research uses cross-sectional sample survey strategy, and two case studies were chosen. Using a questionnaire as the main vehicle, one hundred and sixty six respondents were interviewed.Regresión análysis suggests that both household and dwelling characteristics are important determinants in the decisión to transform or not. Two variables of dwelling characteristics, original house size and the original number of bedrooms, are good predictors. The research suggests that four household characteristics appear to be important, those being total expenditure, number of occupants, household type and ownership.

Abstract

Tri Hita Karana is as a concept which be apparently used on Balinese traditional housing. Balinese traditional house incorporate strongly on the use of environment such as non biotical, biotical and socio culture as well. In developing the Balinese traditional housing, it utilizes optimally the local environment in order that it is able to attain the situation and condition which is a very comfortable, efficiently energy and cheaply use as well.Through the development of science and technology, the rise of tourism influence and the growth of population as well, the concept of Tri Hita Karana is steadily abandoned even forgotten and altered by other concept which is actually come from outside of Bali and in fact, we recognize that it is not guarantee to be applicable in Bali.It is not painless to defeat those change in Bali. It seems that we require durably a strategy manner to optimize the positive influence that come from out of Bali to be able to develop more efficient and effective. The other hand, the negative influence will be minimized, even eliminated through such great efforts to employ optimally the concepts that is still taking place nowadays in Bali. Hopefully, throughout the implementation of Tri Hita Karana, the development of Balinese traditional housing can be sustainable.

Abstract

Catuspatha has a meaning not just a simple word “crossroad” but it means a crossroad which has a sacred value and a specific meaning and known as pempatan agung. At kingdom era, the catuspatha is as center of kingdom and this means that it is a center of country. While, since colonialism of the Netherlands in Bali, there are an idea to put aesthetic elements as focal point or city landmark at core of the catuspatha. Furthermore, this idea is obviously pursued by republic government on independent era.The aim of the research is to explore evidently concept of the catuspatha, the transform of the concept and changes of the catuspatha as a kingdom center from the kingdom era till the republic era and its impact. This research have been conducted through surveying on nine catuspatha as heritage of the kingdom era in Bali, collecting literatures, and interviewing the priest of siwa, budha, bujangga and other main actors as well.The research shows that there are any critical changes of the catuspatha. Firstly, it is the change of idea or perspective of the catuspatha. The center of the catuspatha as an empty space has changed to be the aesthetic element of the city and even it has been operated as traffic sign and orientation. Secondly, regarding to political context, it has influence to the tradition values of the catuspatha. The symbolism of the kingdom authority which is expressed obviously on arrangement of palace with its facilities is changed as town hall and other offices. Thirdly, with regards to transportation technology, on the catuspatha, it is located traffic signs to manage and control the traffic flow.
