Abstract

This study aims to explore the contribution of vocabulary memorization (mufrodat) to the learning of Arabic conversation (muhadatsah) at MAS Muhammadiyah 1 Medan. Difficulties in learning muhadatsah remain a dominant issue among students. Many of them are unable to engage in basic conversations due to weak vocabulary mastery. Some students even struggle to memorize fundamental vocabulary, which should serve as a primary foundation in muhadatsah practice. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis follows the Miles and Huberman model, consisting of three main stages: data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that vocabulary memorization contributes meaningfully to muhadatsah learning, as reflected in the following aspects: (1) improving memory retention through repetition; (2) building students confidence in speaking Arabic; (3) supporting long-term vocabulary storage; (4) increasing motivation to learn Arabic; (5) fostering the habit of speaking Arabic; and (6) enriching students' active vocabulary. Thus, muhadatsah becomes an effective strategy in supporting vocabulary memorization and enhancing students overall language skills. Keywords: Contribution, Mufrodat, Muhadatsah

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the application of conceptual metaphors in the Indonesian translation of Simṭu al-Durar by ‘Alī bin Ḥusain al-Ḥabsyī, using the conceptual metaphor theory of Lakoff and Johnson. Metaphors are viewed not merely as rhetorical ornaments but as conceptual frameworks that shape human understanding of reality. Employing a descriptive qualitative method, this research examined 23 metaphorical expressions from the translated text, classified into three categories: ontological, structural, and orientational metaphors. The results indicate that ontological metaphors dominate (15 data points), followed by structural metaphors (6 data) and orientational metaphors (2 data). These metaphors serve to clarify abstract concepts such as guidance, nobility, and spiritual journeys through concrete imagery like light, pearls, and paths. This study highlights the significance of understanding metaphors in translating religious texts, as metaphors not only beautify the language but also mediate the readers’ spiritual experience. The findings are expected to contribute theoretically to translation studies and provide practical guidelines for translators of religious texts.

Abstract

The advancement of technology has brought significant transformation to the field of education, including Arabic language learning. This study examines the effectiveness of technology integration in Arabic language learning through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach, following the guidelines of the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA). The study aims to analyze the impact of technological implementations such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Augmented Reality (AR), gamification, and online learning platforms on enhancing student engagement, comprehension, and motivation. The findings indicate that technology utilization not only enriches the learning experience and provides flexibility in accessing materials but also significantly improves overall learning effectiveness. However, its implementation still faces several challenges, including limited infrastructure, inadequate teacher readiness, and cultural and curriculum gaps within the education system. Therefore, this study recommends continuous teacher training, investment in digital infrastructure, and curriculum updates to ensure better adaptation to technological advancements. In the future, innovations such as Virtual Reality (VR) and personalized AI hold great potential for creating more interactive, immersive, and effective Arabic language learning experiences.

Abstract

This study investigates linguistic errors in Arabic language learning among students at State Islamic Senior High School Insan Cendekia Kota Batam through an ethnographic approach. The research addresses challenges faced by non-native learners, particularly in phonology, morphology, and syntax. The study aims to identify types of errors, analyze their causes, and explore institutional responses. Data were collected through classroom observation, interviews with students, teachers, and administrators, and analysis of teaching materials and student work. Findings reveal frequent errors in the pronunciation of Arabic phonemes such as /ذ/, /ث/, and /ع/, incorrect verb conjugation, and flawed sentence structures. These are primarily caused by first language interference, limited prior exposure to Arabic, lack of structured morphology instruction, and constrained practice time due to tight academic schedules. Arabic instruction tends to be vocabulary-centered, often reducing learning to memorization. The study concludes that a more communicative, contextual, and skill-oriented approach is needed in non-pesantren Islamic schools to improve Arabic proficiency.

Abstract

This study aims to provide a conceptual analysis of four major Arabic language curriculum models-grammatical, functional, national, and multidimensional-within the context of Indonesian education. Employing a qualitative approach grounded in library research, the study uses content analysis to examine scholarly works, curriculum policy documents, and relevant prior studies. The findings indicate that the grammatical curriculum prioritizes mastery of linguistic structures as the foundation for understanding classical and textual traditions, while the functional curriculum highlights practical language use in everyday communicative situations. The national curriculum is characterized by its alignment with state educational standards, competency frameworks, and broader national objectives. Meanwhile, the multidimensional curriculum integrates linguistic, cultural, cognitive, and communicative components to address the demands of contemporary, 21st-century learning. The study concludes that a strategic integration of these four curriculum types is necessary to develop Arabic language instruction that is pedagogically relevant, communicatively effective, and capable of responding to ongoing processes of globalization, digitalization, and educational transformation in Indonesia.
