Abstract

The research about adsorption of nitrate ion was carried out by black sandstone that was activated by 4 N NaOH and coated by Fe2O3, and washed by aquades with coating pH variation of 5, 7 and 11. The aim of this research is to find the ability of modified sandstone adsorbent in decreasing nitrate ion concentration. This research included the determination of surface acidity by acid-base titration method, determination of the specific surface area by blue methylene method, determination of equilibrium time of adsorption, adsorption isotherms and adsorption capacity of sandstone on nitrate ions by UV-vis spectrophotometer. The results showed that the highest surface acidity came from the sandstone activated with 4 N NaOH and Fe2O3-coated (A1) which was 0.4423 mmol/g, where as the highest specific surface area was owned by sandstone activated with 4 N NaOH and with Fe2O3-coated pH 7 (A3), which was 21.2899 m2/gram. Isotherm patterns were classified in the Langmuir adsorption isotherm with r value 0.9895. The highest nitrate ion adsorption capacity of the adsorbent at pH 4.19 was 2.8333 mg/g in equilibrium time of 90 minutes. In this study, sandstone activated with 4 N and coated with Fe2O3 was able to provide higher capacity than the sandstone control.

Abstract

Design of boric acid imprinted polymer has Been conducted using molecular modeling approach to fabricate thYn film for sensor applications on quartz crystal microbalance. The study was carried out to find an optimum mole ratio between boric acid as the template and methacrylic acid as functional monomer. Molecular modeling was performed using AM1 semiempirical – quantum mechanics on Hyperchem 8.0 software. The result showed was stabilite of supramolecular structure between boric acid and methacrylic acid on ratios of 1:3 and 1:6. Recommendation of boric acid imprinted polymer is suggested to synthesize on mole ratio of 1:3.

Abstract

Recently, Roselle (Hibiscus sabdariffa L.) has been used for tea. Based on this background, research was conducted with the aims: (1) To determine the rate of anthocyanin degradation heating of the roselle calyx extract (Hibiscus sabdariffa L.), (2) To determine the effects of changes during storage on the stability and total concentration of anthicyanin. This research was conducted by extracting the sample with 2% citric acid. Concentrated extract was used to test the stability upon heating temperature, pH during the storage process for ± 30 days. The results of this study indicate that extracts of roselle calyx (Hibiscus sabdariffa L.) experienced a decrease in concentration at 80°C. The anthocyanin degradation rate followed the equation of r = 0.014T – 1.169 with the lowest concentration of 32.916 mg / L.

Abstract

Identification  of active toxic compounds from chloroform extract Nyamplung skin bean (Calophyllum inophyllum L) have been conducted. As much as 2,85 g n-hexane extract, 7,42 chloroform extract, and 4,71 water extract were resulted from 1 kg Nyamplung skin bean. Separation of  2 g  chloroform extract  using column chromatography (stationary phase: silica gel 60 and mobile phase chloroform-methanol 9,5:0,5) resulted  in four fraction with yellowish fraction (0,473 g) as the most toxic fraction (LC50 8,241 ppm). Identification using GC-MS showed that the isolate was hexadecanoic acid (21,02%), 8-octadecenoic acid (59,55%), and oktadecanoic acid(19,43%).
