Abstract

This research on the philosophy of life of the To Balo Tribe in Bulo-Bulo Village, Pujananting District, Barru Regency, is motivated by the existence of an indigenous community with unique and rare characteristics. The tribe known as the To Balo Tribe is a community group believed to exist only in one region in the world. The results of this study indicate that the To Balo community firmly upholds the philosophy of mabbulo sibatang, which means unity as the foundation for building a harmonious and prosperous social life. This community also still preserves ancestral religious values known as the massagala concept, which views the relationship between God, nature, and humans, and believes in the existence of a sacred place called Bontang as a means of praying. From a personal perspective, the To Balo community interprets its identity and traditions as part of a cultural heritage that needs to be maintained and preserved. Meanwhile, the surrounding community views the To Balo community as part of society in general who share similarities in social, cultural, and spiritual activities. The visible differences are mostly understood only in physical aspects, especially skin color which is a characteristic of the To Balo community. The impact of this research is that there are positive values that can be taken from the To Balo philosophy of life, namely the mabbulo sibatang philosophy which means upholding unity and brotherhood, so that a prosperous society is formed. In addition, one of the positive values that can be taken from the To Balo tribe's philosophy of life is the way the To Balo view nature and protect the natural environment around them.
